What to say? An earnings report wildly exceeding even the most optimistic forecasts yields a bump of less than 2% for the week. I expected the good news this week to be another week-ending high for 2015, but not under $120.
But once again, not a thing about Apple, Inc. changed this week, and we Bostonians got a Super Bowl parade. So overall, things could definitely be worse.
Just keep those stories about the expansion of iChina coming, and I'll be able to keep my long term rose-colored spectacles on.
So let's celebrate the results and ignore the short term ennui.
Order up, the bar is open!

No replies to my Thursday note about Watch, so let's try again. What are compelling use-cases for people to fill that flashing "space available" sign on so many wrists? Counter arguments and "I don't really get why" comments have already been made. There are any number of specific use-cases that might convince somebody to get one. 1) Fitness buffs. Well documented by Apple. Some people will upgrade from FitBit, Nike Fuelband, etc for the fitness features alone. 2) Medical patients. My wife is my target audience here. Her brain cancer has her on almost a dozen medicines. Some need to be taken in the morning, or on an empty stomach, or after eating, or only with certain others, or different doses on different days. Remembering to reorder new medication in time to not run out is critical to survival. For someone with cognitive issues, keeping medication straight is crazy. I will get her the Watch so she can program alerts that appear with the exact performance support she needs to keep things straight. Many other people with medical issues have been dreaming of just such a device. (bonus: upload your daily movement and vital stats to a log for your doctor.) 3) Outdoor professionals. I was once a rescue helicopter pilot. We check the weather all the time. Depending on the mission we need to check multiple locations. There is a lot to be said for a device you can glance at that shows the current conditions, without having to dig out a phone, un-glove, tap-tap-tap. Instead, one press on a corner to view weather at your three local airports. Leading a group into the White Mountains? Watch will alert when you ascend above 5,000 feet, or the barometer drops .50inhg in less than an hour. No need to keep checking, just set it and wait for Taptic engine to trigger. 4) Amateur Radio operators. Morse code makes a comeback for semi-secret communications between wrists.

Wait, Rezonate was a rescue helicopter pilot, Phoebes has a friend who's father is a mob boss, and JD is well, JD. Is this a great bunch of people or what? We HAVE to get together when Apple reaches 142.8.

I don't think the battery life would get you to 100 quote checks to hear some tell it Without ever seeing a shipping product

My husband sat me down tonight and said he had a confession to make ... and then he blurted it out, "I don't think the Watch is good looking at all ... I mean, sure, we'll each get one but if it looks the way it did on Tim Cook - I'm sort of disappointed." I told him it was ok and that I forgave him. In the end, he validated my point: True watch aficionados will keep their watches and will look at this wearable as a piece of technology. And that's ok too - some of us will and some of us won't - it's a huge diverse world out there, right?

Her sons were in my kids classes over several years so we interacted all the time...and someday I will tell you stories that are laughable. I could write a book - seriously. BUT I did NOT consider her a friend!

But this, I don't know if you guys can come back from this. Serious shit, man.

"I'm sort of disappointed. But I'm committed to pre-ordering." Fait accompli, they call it? FUN FACT: Something like 80%+ of all handset buyers REFUSE TO CHOOSE iPhone each year.

Here's an Apple Watch use case I warned a friend about. He is a poker room manager at a local casino. I told him the tap messages can be used by poker players to collude by surreptitiously sending messages to confederates. The tap messages can also be used in the blackjack pit to implement the MIT blackjack strategy. I can see the signs in the casino already: "Please check your Apple Watches with the pit boss prior to playing."

I already have a ban on use of electronic devices during exams. I look forward to being able to include Watch on the prohibited list. At launch, adoption likely won't be widespread enough for it to be an issue. Maybe my ban will serve as some reverse psychology to buy them. "Whatever you do, don't go near that watch!"

You mean to tell me a trench coat full of Apple Watches could be a thing? Hey, as long as they're all legit sales into the gray market channel.

Every year I devote the first quarter of the year to creative writing. I work on things pretty diligently for several months and then on April 15th I send it in, finished or not. This year, I came across something that I thought may be useful to members of the board. I do not remember where I read this, it may have been here or Braeburn, so if this is old news, please forgive my failing memory. The issue is Alternative Minimum Tax. If you are over 59 1/2 and you pay AMT, consider withdrawing from your retirement account to increase your income so that your regular taxable income equals your AMT income. While you still pay the same amount of tax, the differential withdrawal is in effect a tax free withdrawal from your retirement account. Again, I apologize if this was presented here already, but I wanted to be sure everyone knew about it. I wish I could remember where I read this so I could give them credit. I realize this is not exactly Apple related, but it's the weekend

One comment echoed over and over by those who've seen and fondled the Watch is that it's more impressive/attractive than the photos suggest. If there's a February event, we may hear about it this coming week or the following.
Consistently, I've read where the Apple Watch induces a "I WANT" reaction.
Remember, Jony Ive is a watch enthusiast, and when he says the Swiss are F&*ked, I'm inclined to believe him. The functionality of this product will be irresistible. I'm working on an app that zaps other AFB members when they play the weeklies.
Prepare to be assimilated...

You know Mercel, watch apps can only tap right now, not zap That's a breakthrough feature Tim is going to demonstrate at the event. It's very hush-hush, so keep it under your hat. If zapping doesn't work, I'm going to work on an app that gives the recipient crabs...

Dude, if Watch can get zap to work, AAPL is easily a two-bragger.

Based upon prior posts, those that play weeklies are such low life, that all of them already have crabs.

I see no particular significance to $142.8whatever.... Please put away your calculators .... $140ish stocks are still cheap ... remember there are stocks that are over $500 ... $600 dollars ... that's "Spensive" ... AAPL is CHEEEEEEEPPPPP still under $200 .. Cheers to the longs !

Here's the thing I want to know. Will the gold version of the watch have a gold band option, as the stainless one has a stainless band option? Because I don't like how a gold watch looks with a pink plastic strap.
And if a gold band option exists, how much extra is that? #margins
