Larry and Sergey announced they're selling 4M shares, posted Friday. It will be interesting to see how the stock responds. www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1288776/000128877615000014/form8-kforfounders10b5x1pl.htmToo busy to join the car talk but will later. Transportation is huge and needs more disruption than Elon's EV. Tim Cook is smart and knows every company needs a moon shot to stir the hopes and dreams of its employees, customers (and potential ones), media, and yes, WS. A self-driving car, an idea heavily dependent on software, is absolutely in Apple's wheelhouse. Those fearing thin margins forget the unfounded skepticism with Apple's new phone, tablet, etc. No money in transportation? There's LOTS of coin to be made in ANY industry this gargantuan.

JD, that was a pleasure to read. An intelligent, rational, un-snarky explanation of your take on Apple, Inc venturing into the cars business. Can't help but think of this

so, does the iCar turn in to a TimeMachine when it hits 88mph? No, and it only goes in reverse if it detects an Android device inside.

Remember: There is NO Law of Large Numbers in business.
Probability theory has nothing to do with growth. More like hundreds of thousands of dice rolls.
"Business physics" may be a concept I just made up but at least it makes more sense.

Unfortunately, I didn't remember the amount of profanity in the movie until my wife and I recently showed it to our 9 and 12 year-old grandsons. They loved it, of course.

I did exactly the same thing but with my own kids. Remains one of their favorites.

Good article by Jean-Louis Gassée on why Car is but a fantasy. And My Cousin Vinny came out right before I entered law school. One of my law school mates was from New York and looked a lot like Marisa Tomei. If anyone in our class dared to say out loud any variation of, "that argument doesn't hold water," Teri would skewer them by saying, "yo honah, that oggument dosen't hold watah" in a thick Mona Lisa Vito NY accent followed up with a mocking cackle. Good times.

All law school professors thought they were John Houseman and after blistering our behinds in their best Socratic ( not) method, would have a pocketful of dimes to hand us so we could call home and tell them we were returning soon...good times....ugh. youtu.be/_wOUMd3bMRI

They loved it, of course. Funny. I did exactly the same thing but with my own kids. Remains one of their favorites. With my own two boys, I took them to see "The Blues Brothers" when it was in the theaters in 1980. They were 9 and 11 and absolutely loved the movie. In fact, they loved it and talked about it so much when they were back with their mom, that she took them to see the movie again. I got a very irate phone call from her that evening about how she was shocked and disappointed that I'd exposed our sons to a movie with so much profanity. I said, "Calm down. Its likely they've already heard most of that on the playground already." And BTW, hadn't she and her date taken our oldest boy to a movie called "Squirm", a movie about man-eating worms? She said well, she didn't know it was about man-eating worms when she took them. I replied, "Didn't the title of the movie make you curious about the subject matter?" Anyway, "The Blues Brothers" is a family favorite and was the first movie I showed my wife after we met in 1985. She asked me years later if the movie was some kind of a test to check her sense of humor. Mmm... possibly.

so, does the iCar turn in to a TimeMachine when it hits 88mph? Only if it has 1.21 gigawatts of electricity at the precise time it hits 88mph. NOW we know why Apple needs a solar farm.

My only issue with the iCar (or Apple Car) thing is that I need to replace two cars in the next couple of years. How long am I going to have to put off car shopping while waiting for concrete news about a car from Apple?
