PED posted an update about the various analyst downgrades on AAPL today: tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/10/16/iphone-5-mac-concerns-lead-to-lowered-apple-estimates/However, I haven't seen anyone mention that for the quarter ending September 30, 2011, AAPL was not able to include sales of the iPhone 4S because the phone was late to the party. For the quarter ending September 30, 2012, the iPhone 5 was available for the last week of the quarter and AAPL has reported that they sold something in the order of 5M iPhone 5s in the first two days. Is this the "coiled spring" theory in action?

Coincidence or not: CNBC trots out Donald Trump to pontificate that Apple can't go back $700 because it's too expensive, and the stock drops $3 in the next few minutes??? Donald Trump? I thought it was bad when squirrel-head would pontificate about public policy and candidates... I wonder if there's a correlation between positions on policy and AAPL?

Is this the "coiled spring" theory in action? Could easily be. Keep in mind that when AAPL provided its guidance for the September Q, it obviously was aware that it barely beat its own guidance for the June Q. Does anyone think Apple wants a repeat of that performance? They will beat guidance handily and because of the tiny beat last Q Wall Street's consensus is primed for another big beat by AAPL.

Jeffries and Q3 guidance: Apple guidance to be better than feared, says Jefferies Jefferies expects Apple to report in-line Q3 results, but thinks the company's typically conservative guidance will be more in-line with the Q4 consensus than feared. The firm has a Buy rating Apple shares with a $900 price target. Take that, Morgan Stanley!

This is not really Apple, but Identive. The extent of Apple's involvement is likely just approval of the accessory.

Would they send an invite like that and not offer mutiple colors for the new iPad Mini? I was thinking the same thing. If they offer multiple colors, they are very clearly signaling they think the market for these is primarily young kids/students. Don't the new iPod Touches come in multiple colors? It is very possible this thing is going to cannibalize iPod Touch almost as much as regular iPad. Ok, maybe not really almost as much, but still quite a bit. Apple's overall device ASP shouldn't be down all that much even with this new device and the volumes should surge significantly. This is a homerun for Apple and AAPL over the next few years.

This may sound naive .... but how in the hell could that invite have "surprised" anyone ?
I really don't understand the mentality of the investor who buys in just because of this invite .... to those that did:
1) The earth is round 2) The tooth-fairy does not exist 3) AAPL will be trading above $900 by years end ... ok that one might be a stretch but it's got a pretty good shot !
