At least for Germany I can say that Apple has been around 20% market share since beginning of 2011, while Samsung went from 10% to 30% in that timeframe. Nokia's share tumbled fast (37% -> 17%). So Apple is holding steady while others are taking share from each other, at least in this snapshot?

I disagree. Those charts showed iphone doing quite well. The only one that looked "bad" was Spain. Not sure what is going on there. The China chart is meaningless. Samsung has been in China for a long time, Apple is just getting started. The China smartphone market is growing and Apple will gain share.

I keep getting this feeling that many AFBers are only now discovering how powerful Samsung has been for YEARS now.
Samsung is NOT the upstart here. APPLE is. That helps calibrate one's worldview of the smartphone landscape.
