Biggest weekly gain since w/e February 13 (+$8.15). Still more than 20 points below ATH, despite two historically great quarterly results since then. Definitely feeling that Sad Clown/Happy Clown thing. Light traffic in the Daily thread, so figured we might as well get the weekend started. NFL Preseason Game 3 Weekend, so this is your best chance to find out how ready the Home Town Team is for the upcoming season. Summer is still hanging on here in New England, which is nice since Labor Day comes late this year. A toast to September 9! Step right up! What'll ya have?

If I had some, it would be Irish Cream on ice. I'll have settle for elixir de agave on ice a little later. This whiplash was absolutely fascinating and somewhat unsettling and entertaining at the same time, got this old man's adrenalin going. On a positive note, my youngest daughter began teaching her first ever 7th grade science classes Tuesday. We have a school marm in the family. Woohoo she's picking up her car payments and insurance. That's a couple more shares of AAPL month, or according to my wife a new shower and bathroom cabinet tops all around.. Guess which May the Bears go into hibernation early this year.

My choice is the usual, Go To IPA by Stone. My local supermarket chain, Ralph's, has them 30% off if you buy 4 6-packs. Might as well call that promotion, "JD Liver Murderer." Ice Cube (of Cop Killa fame) could make a rap song out of it. Maybe Dr. Dre could perform it at the iPhone event. I meant for Since84 to post this in the morning Intraday, but it's all good: That jackass Daisuke Wakabayashi is at it again, with the ol' criticizing of a meme that he himself has purveyed and propagated trick. This week Daisy Duke tweets a plug of his latest WSJ Digits story on IDC's report that Apple Watch Sales May Be Pretty Good After All. In his tweet, he asks, "Will the IDC figures on Apple Watch finally quiet the "bust" talk?" Jagoff! He's the one who was reporting that Apple Watch was a bust! He even links to his July 31 article within his August 27th piece! Like a horny dog near bitches in heat, no shame at all. Speaking of which, my dog has the equivalent of breast cancer again. Surgery next week! And it ain't cheap! Anyway, feeling better this weekend than last. Let's hope for some momentum going into the iPhone event...

There is new interest in Apple TV prior to the upcoming event. Is it possible, just possible, that the TV announcement will be more important than the iPhone 6s announcement?

IF Apple announces some new services than yes I believe it would be. The iPhone revenue stream is baked in by most people ... the only thing that is going to really take this stock higher is new revenue streams ... watch, TV services etc ..... I've long hoped they would open Apple TV up to 3rd party developers , it's surprising it's taken this long to do so assuming they do on the 9th.

My concerns regarding the new Apple TV is that Siri will only work with iTunes library and not integrate with the other channels. Unless I can ask to see the latest episode of some show on Netflix or HBO, I won't be impressed.
Secondly if the processor is only equivalent to a Play Station 3, then it will be geared to the casual gamer. PS 3 is already 5 years old. We will need much stronger horsepower to go head to head with the XBOX.
The Apps will be a big plus but it will take time to see serious development given its infancy. HomeKit should add some cool features.
But it will be a great start just like the Apple Watch and they will still sell millions this Christmas with versions 2 and 3 really generating massive appeal.

I don't know, I don't see why you need a 7000 seat venue to introduce an alternative to Roku. I expect something bigger.

I have used Apple Music for a couple of weeks now, and like it (except for the poor interface and the delays on the network). I used Spotify and Pandora a bit, and do not see any major advantage over Spotify or Pandora. Is there a major difference?

One would think Siri integration would be a differentiator, but that doesn't seem very polished either.

I don't like my music "curated" (I think that's a load of crap) so I just pick stuff that I want to hear and SIRI has made that easier .... I will say that Spotify's user interface is better ... hate to admit it but Apple Music's interface leaves a lot to be desired. That said ... I've cancelled Spotify and will sign up for a family account as soon as my trial expires ... as should every Apple investor on this board !!!!!! Cheers to the longs

Spotify has one significant advantage over Apple Music: Higher bandwidth. Neither have good audio quality, but I do use Spotify for music discovery. Tidal has CD quality bandwidth, which sounds way better than either Apple Music or Spotify. More and more of my music is in much higher resolution than CD. The music lovers I know are not interest in Apple Music. There were rumors in the audiophile community that Apple would offer higher resolution. Maybe they'll add that option down the road. It's strange that Apple pushes the envelope with video resolution but doesn't care about music quality.

I said "Siri, Play music" and it played the same song over and over so I said, "Play something different" and it played the weirdest music I have ever heard, so I said, "Not THAT f**king different" and she said, "now now" Still better than NPR

Last year - apple rolled out iPhone 6/6+ in China in October. If Apple included China in sept launch - it will obviously improve first weekend launch numbers and more importantly - YOY compares. Given the body is the same - and there haven't been any supply chain constraints/suicides of explosions - perhaps there is a good chance we will see new China iPhones in sept.

Not sure if the China release date had to do with supply, I seem to remember the date was delayed until after the Chinese regulators approved the iPhone 6/6+ for sale.

A good deal more Apple employees can attend, which is a plus. Mav, why is that a good thing? At WWDC, it's good to have employees there to answer question. Back when WWDC had their party on campus, not only did I get to see some good performances and freeze my butt off in June, but I also was able to answer questions. By that time there were a lot of non-programmers there, so in the Server area I was able to talk at length with an IT guy from NASA-AMES just up the road in Mountain View, and talk with him about some of the NetBoot with ARD I was using to bring up a 200+ seat computer lab. Giving info, but also getting info on real-world usage so that I could test things out better, was great. But I don't see this at a press conference. No matter what the new product the event is based around, not that many people internally have played with it, at all or in much detail depending on the product. That's what keeps leaks small, along with keeping focus of the company. Even at MacWorld, where a lot of the company had played with a newer OS being rev'ed, it was mostly the "apple rep" type people doing the demos, the people that would spend most of their time at companies or schools showing off the products and finding solutions. Granted those people are good with demos and talking, since that's what they do. But they are not going to be keyed in on product features that are brand new, especially as you pull away from the OS and move to a new product, particularly a HW based one. Personally, I loved demoing at MacWorld to individuals, again mainly to see how others use it. And I'd generally be showing the server product that I worked with 50+ hrs per week, so I knew it. Anyways, if things are anywhere like how they were a decade ago, most on campus are still going to watch the event, but instead of in person it will be in big theaters like at the Cafe, IL4, and DA3. We'd just come down the stairs a little before, watch the event, and then get back to work....along with a lot of talking about the new stuff, particularly if it was something that we couldn't really talk about before it was public. So everyone is in tune with it, and excited about it. But that saves a couple hours of busing round trip to SF, and most people can think of something better to do with a couple hours than spend them on a bus. So I just don't see it. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple doesn't use the whole venue, or if they do it's so they can build something inside for the demo, unlike the external setups at De Anza college or Google's barges or something like that. They have the building blocked off for what, 2 weeks. I don't think they're just putting up their blue or purple drapes (forget which the actual color is, but what's cool is it's not the color seen in videos) and a few Apple logos. But the venue choice could point to something more music related. Or it could just be that other places of half the size were busy.

HomeKit should add some cool features. But it will be a great start just like the Apple Watch and they will still sell millions this Christmas with versions 2 and 3 really generating massive appeal. Opening it to apps, plus putting in Safari, would be huge. Right now, we still connect a laptop to stream from cbs.com. The cbs app has more delays until content is available, which sucks. And occasionally when we don't watch one of their shows within the 2 week window, we just have to download from bittorrent and enjoy their being no commercials....you'd think they'd want to avoid us doing that. The question is if putting a faster chip in wouldn't bump up the price, but also what's a reasonable size. For me, and I think most, a current iPhone/iPad processor would be plenty. Really, you're competing with other set to boxes, but more than that you're competing with the add-on chips in a smart TV or a smart DVD/BLU-ray. It's not hard to beat those last ones, but being able to pump our 60 FPS on the latest FPS takes much more, and then would raise the cost for everyone. Is that justified, or do you have to assume that the top 2% of higher-end games are really not going to be satisfied until they connect a new computer up to their TV. Where is the line there? After using Amazon Prime on our TV, it's amazing how much the interface sucks for finding something. And that's whether you are trying to find something new, like looking at movie suggestions, or if you are trying to type in a movie name that you know. Instead, I end up looking on their site with a computer, letting me limit my search much more and then cross-reference with IMDB so that I don't waste my time. But then back on the TV, I have to "type" in the name, but with pushing arrows around to move on a QWERTY keyboard. Voice/SIRI would rock here, or even a bluetooth keyboard. Ahhh, that's it. The other side is that there really needs to be a good "movie suggestions" interface. I don't need just the latest films, especially with Prime adding a bunch of crap that they get for cheep so they can give for free. What it really needs is to tap in to Netflix's recommendation database. While a competitor to iTunes, if they could partner up to get that, suddenly the suggestions or main screen items would be much more relevant. And with many already having a database of things they liked or didn't (I think I rated 300+ movies, though haven't used Netflix now in 8 years), it could already know what your type is. I doubt it will happen. But that is something that could be worth Apple spending some money on, or some partnership. But they're too much of a competitor, so maybe going with IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes or something would work. Either way, there's plenty of room in the settop box area to improve, at least off of their current options. And we keep waiting to see what's to come of the "I've cracked it" SJ comment. A good interface will help, and Siri will be good too, but I still think there needs to be some good smarts of recommendations, along with getting most content in there one way or another (apps vs iTunes vs browser). But we'll find out soon enough.

Apple never intended to make a car. Need room to show off the made to order patented hydrogen drive chain and recharging systems for OEM's, Electrical sub systems, battery and refill systems you can pick up at handy markets like propane tanks, and software to run all the optional equipment
