A tough week but the past two days showed a little life. I'm having a nice Merlot after seeing a screening of "The Martian". A fine movie with some classic disco!
Apple looks to be hitting on all cylinders ....and this from a guy who flies a ship on warp drive....no cylinders....but the news is good!
Let's talk it over and build for next week.

Tired of the market ... happy to take a few days off !!!! Even though I'm long it's hard for me not to watch it .... in any case , on to another topic ..
Angela Ahrendts: Has she done ANYTHING ? Apple gave her a insane package to leave Burberry and although I certainly cannot see what is going on in the background from where I sit, I've seen nothing. The stores look pretty much exactly as they did before she got to Apple, the watch which was supposed to be be marketed to the upscale fashion conscious consumer is now being sold at Best Buy and Target. What high end boutique is going to want to stock this watch when Target has it sitting in their stores ? Of course they could only sell the high end Edition watches but really it's not a exclusive product when being put into box stores. Now, I don't mind that at all ... In fact I think that's where it belongs as a mass market product that I believe it to be. So .. once again what has Angela done ? I have noticed that Apple has really scaled back their use of commercials on TV have they increased their internet presence ? If so, I haven't seen it but then again I may not be in the hip demographic any longer ... sigh. So have you noticed anything ??
Cheers to the longs

Regarding Apple at Target, WSJ Digits has Apple Watch to Hit Target Shelves Soon. Take away "Only Apple’s most entry-level watches will be available at Target." Apple is attempting to bifurcate the market between Mass and Luxury. It will be interesting to see if they can pull it off.

water resistant iPhone? First, Apple takes this gasket business pretty seriously: they didn’t just run a strip of glue around the existing display like they were caulking a bathtub. Instead, it appears the iPhone’s frame has been subtly reworked to accommodate the new gasket. We noted a slight, but measurable, increase in the width of the lip running along the perimeter of the frame—it’s about 0.3 mm wider than on the iPhone 6, making it just wide enough for that little gasket to land on. ..... Every cable connector on the board—from the battery and display, to the Lightning port and buttons—is surrounded by what appears to be a tiny silicone seal. ifixit.org/blog/7408/iphone-waterproof/

And remember, the state of the art today and for at least 8 months (probably 12 or more) is tether to iPhone. Will a regular Target shopper recognize this? Time will tell if the brand is tarnished by angry returns by flip phone users. Of course, what would stop Apple from releasing an Android companion application suite for Apple Watch? Just the basics. (I know I know - terrible idea. But iPod was Firewire and Mac only, until it suddenly wasn't.)

Guys - this is a huge blessing for us. By Apple having all of these watches in so many retail outlets - it will help juice revenue for the all important holiday quarter. Remember - Apple gets credit for a sale when it's sold to a retailer - and by not having to report watch sales separately - all WS will see is the revenue number. Sure - long term - there could be issues with Apple not selling these puppies --- but for now - will help ensure guidance is up considerably YoY.

I like the article. I really like what she is doing. It is important that Apple employees feel connected to Apple. I believe many Google employees feel this way about Google, For Apple one should feel a tiny bit like "family".

I just worry about people who want "cool", get the "iWatch", then discover they must also get iPhone. Some may/will do just that. The difference this time around is a dominant market position in the segment. "Already have iPhone 5s or later? No problem!" Back in the day, Apple expected iPods to sell Macs. Didn't happen. But the Apple Watch just might sell a few iPhones too. And with version 3 the Apple Watch will just contact your iCloud directly, over Apple's own MVNO. (/ducks)

I watched this interview yesterday evening and he elaborated on a point that I specifically brought up here in the past albeit anecdotally. His son is very much into music - including song writing - he told his whole family that he wanted them to switch over to Apple Music (he is an investor in the stock). They all have Apple products and did so happily given that it dove-tailed nicely with the ecosystem they all enjoyed. After 2 to 3 weeks they had similar issues to our friend Jim D. and his son who is very musically astute said he thought it was a mess and wanted to go back to Spotify. O'Leary said Apple lost a customer and that's not the only customer of that age they lost. All I could think of was the story I told all of you - that NOT ONE of my kids (both in their 20's) nor ANY of their friends liked Apple Music or use it any longer and their preference is Spotify. Aside from Apple Music all their other products are Apple products. Are you going to tell me they haven't screwed the pooch with this one? And when they announce that there as X number of people that stayed with the service ... it's only the "AOL I forgot I don't have to pay for dial-up anymore" effect. They'll cancel - give them time UNLESS Tim Cook figures out WTF is going on in this vertical.

So here's my take on Angela. I WANT AA to succeed. I WANT her to do well and I want for new and exciting things to happen in retail. The subtleties she has created are all good and commendable HOWEVER given her package - I expected BIG and GREAT.Most importantly I expected her to surround herself with talented individuals so she can delegate while multitasking and getting MORE DONE in a shorter period of time. You think I'm asking for too much? I don't think so. She certainly has enough time to multi-task and get her stock sold every quarter or so. C'mon fellas/gals you deserve better as shareholders. WE are paying her....now she should be performing better. Again, IMHO. For those of you who know music - you'll know where these lines came from - a real oldie: I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

(Trying to stay serious but you guys always make me crack up - stop it) One other thing on Angela and/or Apple: I personally find the article a bit insulting - assuming it's true. There are parts of that artice that make AA sound like a cheerleader or as a nurturing mother who has come into the Company to make all the children feel loved and keep the family together. Seriously? I understand what they are attempting to convey but as an executive and even moreso as a woman executive I find it a bit degrading. So exactly how does this work? They hire women for the mommy / cheerleader role? And if not then who? Gays? But certainly not a macho man like...let's say Phil Schiller, right? The whole thing is so weird. If AA has good communication skills (which you could have fooled me after that video that we all got to see) then great and it's additive as a great leader but as they say in Patriot land "Do your job"

HERE IS A GREAT real time website attack map: Every second, Norse collects and analyzes live threat intelligence from darknets in hundreds of locations in over 40 countries. The attacks shown are based on a small subset of live flows against the Norse honeypot infrastructure, representing actual worldwide cyber attacks by bad actors. At a glance, one can see which countries are aggressors or targets at the moment, using which type of attacks (services-ports). Hovering over the Attack Origins, Attack Targets, or Attack Types will highlight just the attacks emanating from that country or over that service-port respectively. Hovering over any bubble on the map, will highlight only the attacks from that location and type. Press s to toggle table sizes. Norse exposes its threat intelligence via high-performance, machine-readable APIs in a variety of forms. Norse also provides products and solutions that assist organizations in protecting and mitigating cyber attacks. WOW! map.norsecorp.com/

... but as they say in Patriot land "Do your job" Whoah! A Patriots quote from a Jets fan! Now I know the world is upside down, and not just AAPL. I'm actually a Giants fan but a a New York fan in the end ... And don't forget chinacat that my son-in-law is from your neck of the woods and is a die hard Patriots and BoSox fan. My father-in-law, an avid Yankee fan, would ask him to remove his Red Sox cap "out of respect" when he was over. Funny story - at my daughter's wedding we had the band do a rendition of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" as we do at EVERY family function because we did it to honor my mother-in-law at the time whose name was Caroline. We had no idea that it was the Red Sox theme song so when the band started to play it - not only did my side of the party go nuts for my mother-in-law but the other side went wild thinking we played it to honor their home town team. Everyone got up - people were singing and dancing - several ended up on stage with the band....it was crazy. That was the night I found out about the Red Sox and Sweet Caroline. My learning curve on New England teams has been steep ever since.

I attended my first Fenway game with my Dad in 1959 (Ted hit one into the bullpen, one of my most vivid memories; alas, the Sox got clobbered, as they mostly did in those days), but I am one of the few Red Sox fans who absolutely detests the Sweet Caroline "tradition," and I say this as someone who owns a Neil Diamond Greatest Hits LP ("Thank the Lord for the Nighttime" and "Solitary Man" still make me smile). I just never got the connection, and this explanation validates that there really is none.

It was pretty great. I reminded them that he was a product of Long Island, New York

For anyone interested, I just added a small update to the thread on construction of Apple Campus 2 at aaplfinance.proboards.com/thread/1215/apple-campus-2No video but I added a couple of maps to show the relative location of Apple Campus 2 with respect to Apple World Headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop. Also added a map showing the new construction site as well as a photo I took yesterday when a crew was working on a Saturday. UPDATE: Added 3 photos

As you can see I was successful at that, but how do you switch it back to not have the icon appear in place of the word?
Thanks in advance for any help.
