Since it is at this moment Saturday in Boston, I figured I might as well start the weekend thread. Highest close since July 31 (!), highest weekly gain since February 13 (!!!!). Feeling pretty optimistic about calendar 3Q results, as "expectations" seem to have been somewhat tempered by the overall market malaise. However, we have finally reached the long-feared moment when all eyes will be on guidance versus the dreaded Tough Impossible YoY Compare. Tim seems relentlessly optimistic, though, and who am I to doubt him?
Oh well, might as well toast to an excellent week. Step up to the bar for your toasting supplies, and keep your fingers crossed until Tuesday.
(NB: None of this is meant to imply that Mr. Market will react rationally no matter how the Earnings Report call goes, so let's be careful out there!)

They are working on a car. When it comes out it will be met with the same skepticism as the Apple Watch.. My math says that the car will make up less then 3% of revenue in 2020. WS will say that only model 3 will take off. Never the less it may be the first product that I may not buy because it may be out of my affordability range. Who may I kidding? I will have millions in Apple stock by 2020

It's going to be fun watching Apple negotiating this new industry for the next ten or twenty years. They seem to be pushing a big pile of chips into the pot. I was on an interstate highway recently and noticed how many trucks have installed wind fairings and side skirts. It seems it can reduce gas consumption by 7% for long haul trucks. Perhaps we'll first see autonomous vehicles on the freeway in packs like a bicycle peloton to increase efficiency. No doubt the vehicles will be packed with cameras, sensors, and communication chips. I speculate the switch to autonomous will be pushed be the insurance industry. All accidents will be recorded by multiple "black boxes" and it will, overall, be human error that causes the most damage. I'm sure people will be allowed to take the wheel but it will cost them a large insurance premium. Once again I trust Apple is skating to where the puck is going to be.

Is anyone going to join me in ordering an Apple TV on Monday? I am and everyone I know wants one. Hope quantity fills demand. If I could subscribe to everything I watch which isn't much I'd drop Comcast cable tv instantly.

Well nice week and woke me up and got long some options.
I will be selling those playing a small teaser for earnings.
Be aware that IMO most of the (options) gains in AAPL occur in trend which it will rip a 15-20 percent in a short 1-1.5 month time period.
Last time we saw a weekly MACD cross under the 0 line was 2013 setting off a deep run after we bottomed post 2012 blood bath.
Obviously earnings will be good but the wild card always is how the market will react.
The general technicals in the market seem to have some bullish headwinds as well.
As always tho, have a plan.
And trade your plan.

I can't wait for this movie to come out. It looks like they managed to combine all three original Star Wars into one. We have a desert, a frozen world, and redwood forest. Disneyland is building a new Star Wars section where Toontown was. Lots of cool things to look forward two in the next 5 years. We will watch the 9th Star Wars in 2022 while our Apple Cars drives our family to Disneyland?

And trade your plan. Nice to hear your plan, I've done the same. I've already trimmed my options position down to a quarter of what it was. I'm holding Nov 105s, trying to decide what to do exactly for earnings. I'm debating trimming a little more, rolling them up to a higher, nearer strike and/or selling calls against them. What are you thinking?

Have feeling that we're finally going to see some iPad rollover (lot of people, me included, have long in tooth iPads. Lightened up on options this week, moved to shares. Will breathe a little easier this earnings regardless of where we go. At least with shares I can add/delete in AH.

Wait are we also tallying up iPad Pros? I know release date is some time in November but I didn't thing we were taking a survey on that yet. If we are - I'm up to 4 right now but I may need more. (Just trying to get the stock price up for you fellas!)

I am long a gaggle of 120 NOVs and I will be divesting essentially all of them pre earnings, playing a little teaser on likely Feb 140s and will wait for my pitch so to speak.
Scenario: Gaps up huge 8-10% - stay out and wait for the general market to roll back slightly (backtesting 2040 level spx +/- 10 handles) play theta with longer term options as I view general market headwinds right now bullish. Gaps up/down slightly 3 percent- play a theta crushed strike, likely nov or dec. Gap down big - avoid, wait for the pre earnings level to be broken to consider re-longing or a reclaimed downtrend on the 65' chart.
Still mulling over this but something of this sort would be my strategy.

Tried on the Apple Watch for the first time yesterday at the Newport Beach, CA Apple Store. I found that I still don't like segmented metal watch bands, just like I didn't when I was a kid. Too pinchy, like handcuffs. YMMV. So I'll probably get the stainless large watch with brown & black leather straps. I like the light brown leather straps with a stainless watch look, even on a Rolex Submariner.
My lady friend had thought she knew which watch combo she wanted, but after trying them on, she found that her wrists are so small, she clearly changed her mind on which straps to get.
Definitely a try-on-before-you-buy item. It now makes even more sense to me why Apple designed the watch "full service" display how they did.
Starting to get some anxiety about Tuesday (not a prediction, just my fight or flight response + too much caffeine). Glad I have Tuesday off, so I can be a layabout all day and take it all in in real time. Nothing worse than being on the freeway during an earnings call!

NFL doing a stream only broadcast of Bills/Jags which is easy to move from iPhone to big screen tv with AirPlay/Apple TV - nice timing to get people thinking about why they may want to buy an Apple TV unit

Given the negative comments made by Tim Cook, Jony Ive, Laurene Powell and Walt Mossberg about Sorkin's movie, "Steve Jobs", I had no plans to see it anyway. But does anyone else think that Business Insider LOVED to publish their story with this headline? If it concerns anything Apple, and they can put "flop" in the title, it's a cinch to be published by BI.
