Markets closed, maybe reopening Wednesday, conditions permitting.
Off topic: Here in New Zealand, iPhone 5s have suddenly appeared to be flooding in. Those that ordered directly from apple on launch weekend have finally received their units after 4 weeks. The largest telco here also started selling the iPhone 5 unlocked today, which many were waiting for (you can walk into the store and buy one unlocked & off contract, whereas apple online is still a 3-4 week wait.)

TC said in the conference call that iPhone production had really picked up since early October. Perhaps the improved yields are moving through the channel to the end user at last. Welcome if true.

perhaps with the new Maps app, Forstall was having trouble finding the door ... thank goodness TC is there to show him the way out
well, if most of what I read about Forstall is true then TC had no choice
curious to know if AAPL is trading in Europe ... any hint on market reaction to the news?

I bet the first weekend number for the 4th gen and mini combined would be pretty impressive.

Those benchmarks for the 4th gen iPad are fantastic. Yep. Apple has made sure that nothing Android will touch the responsiveness of iPad 4 this holiday season!

Hey - no power and no cable - but got to hubby's office and am able to log on for a little bit. Anyone know how AAPL traded in Germany this morning? Also - I'm pretty sure they will open exchanges tomorrow...end of month, end of year for some. I'm sure they are testing. Interestingly their site for emergencies is in New Jersey - which is worse off - so we'll see what the announcement is later today but I would be shocked if they don't open...oh and yeah, they need to get 200 people (skeleton crew) in. That is the biggest issue of all since no subways, Amtrack, NJ Transit or LIRR are in service -- even tomorrow.

Tweet from Horace: @asymco: iPhones and iPads sold out and iMac not available. You'd think there's a war on.

Those benchmarks for the 4th gen iPad are fantastic. Any guesses where the IPAD mini will fall in the benchmark test? any chance for it to be on par with 3 gen ipad?

Hey - no power and no cable - but got to hubby's office and am able to log on for a little bit. Anyone know how AAPL traded in Germany this morning? ... AAPL trades currently around 464.00€ in Germany with about 13,000 shares. This corresponds roughly to $602.00. The range of today is 462.00€ to 464.50€. It seems like it wants to close at the upper end.

A little danger but also excitement with Ive venturing into software.
Does he really have experience there? Will he rip up the iPhone keyboard (best in class) out of Forstall-hating spite? Will my icons turn into hieroglyphs?
We'll see before long.

Will my icons turn into hieroglyphs? We'll see before long. Ive has demonstrated to have an eye for simplistic yet functional design. He may not be a talented writer of code but I believe he knows what the typical Apple consumer wants, whether it be in hardware or the look and feel of the software.

Ousting Forstall is good in so many ways. It's what Steve would have wanted: they really were close buddies for years as well as design and gadget soul mates (someone used that term on a comments board today). Steve gave Ive more power at Apple than anyone except Tim, as was written in the biography. Steve totally trusted Jony's taste and aesthetic sense, so to give him more control now makes sense. Especially since Steve said that Tim wasn't a products guy.
I think iOS is fine, but it IS getting a bit stale (maybe I've read that too many times recently). I wrote TC an email yesterday with a few ideas. Forstall really may not have had a vision of where to take iOS, as several analysts have conjectured, who knows? But it does seem to be time to revamp iOS's look a bit and implement customization options, more flexible multi-tasking, and other software elements - hopefully that won't be seen as reactionary or catch-up tech. The new iPad is twice as fast, but is the OS really making use of all that power at this point? I'm not whining for more innovation; I'm excited to see what Jony can do here.
Ive is also such a better fit for the new Apple under congenial Tim. Steve and his dictatorial ways are gone, why not get rid of "Steve-junior?" Forstall was creating dissension in the ranks with his over-driven ambitions.

With Ive moving to a broader scope of responsibilities, I can only hope that Apple's industrial design team is up to the task of doing more without his guidance. We never hear much about the designers other than Ive.

Disney buys Lucalfilm Ltd. Will release Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015 Jar Jar Binks with almond-shaped eyes. Ugh.... If Forstall was responsible for some things like the Address Book (leather BS?), then good. Really dislike some of the things I've seen lately. Made ease of use worse IMO. Haven't lost any money in 4 days, life is good ;D

Nick Nansen: Apple Estimates for 2013
He needs to reverse his iPad & iPad mini numbers. The iPad mini should be the bulk of iPad sales from day one of availability.
