If we're looking for signs that the previous session was Capitulation Friday today gives mixed signals. We closed above the open but below the high, but also performed more than 1 point better than SPY, which also faded in the last ten minutes. But at least I don't feel as though I've spent the day getting whacked over the head by a rubber mallet.

"I am just gonna have to stop watching" at 1:02 followed by an edit at 1:05 showing he is still watching. ROFL.

I'll take this green any day of the week!
And good news on the ipad sales - can we please stop quoting bullshit supply chain analysts now (who were claiming less than 1 million screens were produced for the ipad mini before launch) - i dont recall a single time these supply chain reports were accurate, they are just constant FUDsters.

Another point or two would have made this a non-issue.

Hopefully we will either drift above the 10m 200 EMA in AH, or gap above it tomorrow. Then we should be free to get a decent run higher going. News permitting, of course.

I didn't follow the stock market until recently, so I don't know what happened in previous years, but isn't tomorrow's election potentially going to have a big effect? Are many investors waiting to see what happens?
I believe that the worst outcome is no outcome, as in too close too call, with recounts in certain places and lawyers will be battling it out for days or weeks. I don't think that the market will like that.

Holly Flying Fud Batman. Rather like the Fortune article which suggests that Cook is cooked. HereIMHO the market will go up if the elections results are clear and uncontested. Forbes article, not Fortune. At least at Fortune, we've got an ally in PED. I found the idea of "sentiment analysis" in this article as the basis for trading algorithms fascinating, and something I had never heard of before. That this could explain the sudden and profound drop in AAPL value, and is perhaps a far better explanation than supposed insider knowledge of sales/cost stats, or a few loudmouths blogging negatively. Has anyone else ever heard of this, and are there any publicly available indices of this nature?

I am a bit confused. For some reason I thought that the iPad 3 had sold 1.5 million units in its first weekend of availability and thus the 3 million number we got today for the iPad Mini/iPad 4 was excellent. However it seems that the iPad 3 sold 3 million units in its first weekend of availability. Would that not make today's numbers a little disappointing? Ipad 3 launched with wifi and LTE versions on day 1. Launched in a lot less countries but still not launching the LTE version at the same time holds back a lot of sales. i'm holding out for the LTE Mini myself. A mini especially is ultra portable so you'd want the LTE service. 3M is a very strong number and they sold out of the inventory. Sure some 64 gb minis are still on shelves but no one is really buying those anyway. mini fits in my blazer pocket perfectly and my girlfriend's purse as well. It was a good launch weekend and everyone in the apple store i talked to was stoked by the device and wasn't sure why the reviews were bashing. It is going to sell well. I've been accumulating spreads the whole month and might pick up some commons as well to offset my option positions.

I believe that the worst outcome is no outcome, as in too close too call, with recounts in certain places and lawyers will be battling it out for days or weeks. I don't think that the market will like that. The theory, which Ken Fisher talks about in a couple of his books, is that an unknown gets closed out (the market would rather know one way or the other), and when he looked at history either side (incumbant dem elected, or new rep elected) was a positive for the market. That said, while 2008 was a special year (big worldwide slide), AAPL hit a peak on election day, and went down after. Most feel that you are right, that as long as their is a decision made tomorrow one way or the other, the market will be happier.

Melissa said "when they came out with the combined ipad sales number I almost thought they were trying to hide something" ... implying mini sales were not good ..... You know how they say you can't love two women at once? Not sure about that, but you can definitely hate two women at once, Melissa Lee and Erin Burnett. Erin has made me hate her even more for political reasons I won't divulge here - lest the amateur AFB mods take away valuable time from their amateur analysis to chastise me - but the reasons should be obvious if you've seen her on her new gig. But all Harvard grads (or Dads on AFB) should hate Melissa Lee for making Harvard look bad. Gawd she is dumb. Great comeback by a guy I never heard of, which I sent to Ms. Lee: I just wish someone would ask this dumb bunny Melissa Lee "what other mobile tech companies give any sales numbers whatsoever? AMZN? GOOG? MSFT?"

EH, it was green. Not really the day I was looking for, but at least it was up. Moved up 4 RSI points on this small move. That does not bode well going forward IMO.

Horribly misleading article, as were the last two I read on this. This is money NOT YET REPATRIATED to the US as income. So it is pre-US tax! If Apple were to bring this money home and declare it as income, it would pay an extra 35%! Total bullshit "journalism." Yes the tax laws should be changed - so the IRS doesn't get a damned dime of overseas profits, like the rest of the world treats its companies.

iPad, it doesn't really seem to matter, does it? Actually, I'm kind of encouraged that AAPL held 577 despite two tests today. New point of reference.
Meanwhile, the 574.75 downwave low wasn't in play at least for today.
I take this as a positive (along with the decent relative strength), but I don't expect any "clarity" until later in the week. Er, hopefully.

Is there a gap at $576 now? Thanks. No gap issue. Problem for me is that there has not been a reversal day. We had one last Wednesday, but it turned out to be worthless as far as finding support. Today was very weak IMO. Especially when the market turned around. Remember, AAPL was up when the market was down this morning. Holding on for dear life, and I am still very nervous.

This is playing out similarly to the June '11 and November '11 bottoms, Mark. The June '11 one may have been a red dog reversal, but Nov. '11 was not. Take a look. We can build off of today's work

RG, follow through would be encouraging. We have a very distinct down channel, until it breaks that, nothing has changed. RG, my jaw just about hit the floor when I looked at the STO for the weekly, simply amazing. I guess a couple of weeks of imbedding will do that.

So we need a move to above 591 (200-day) in next day or so. Hate to think about what happens if we don't capture the 200-day.
