I'm having a debate with myself regarding how Apple will trade over the next three months. The positives: Availability on iPhone and iPad Mini is getting better. Demand for all products remains off the charts (but not sure about new iPod) 3M iPad sales was a great number. The negatives: The market is scared about the fiscal cliff. The debt limit also needs to be extended. Our leaders don't have a solid track record for resolving these issues. People might continue to sell stock for tax reasons. I want to invest the rest of my dry powder. The trick is when to pull the trigger. If I had any left, I would use it now. But then the reason I don't have any left is because I made the wrong decision at about $575. The positives you mention are solid facts, while the negatives are potential risks that IMO are unlikely to result in a negative. I'm an optimist regarding Apple and that other stuff.

Let's say 522/516ish does turn out to be a magnet. Doomâ„¢? Or is it not over until AAPL attempts to claw back to the SMA-50 weekly? IMHO, the latter.

I want to invest the rest of my dry powder. The trick is when to pull the trigger. Scale in and, if options, buy time. See JAN'14 800/850. Stupid cheap. Will 3x by next ATH. Sell 1/2 your position at 2x, then your cost basis is zippo.

The positives are a given The negatives are what they are, but you must remember one thing, the "fiscal cliff" is a ridiculous exaggeration. The federal budget is $4 trillion dollars, do you really think the "cutting" (makes me laugh, no such thing as really cutting in Washington) $100 billion from that would have any meaningful impact on the overall economy? I do not. The debt ceiling will be raised and yes, people will continue to sell. Here is the think about money, it seeks return, so just because someone sells a stock does not mean that the money is out of the market.

And I have done okay having bought in since 2000. But I think I could do better. These call spreads that you all talk about..... where can I find some basic information that explains how this works (I am such a newbie in this area!) ie what is the buy in cost, what is the gain if all goes well, what is the cost if it all goes pear shaped. thanks

Maybe this is old news, but all iPad minis, including cellular, are now listed as two weeks on the apple website. With phoebes and others getting delivery notices of November 21 for their cellular models ordered a while ago...there we are.

Remember, iPad mini hasn't been launched yet. Apple didn't set a date other than the...er... nebulous timeframe of "mid-November". Will there be launch supply for Black Friday shopping, I'm quite sure there will be. All in all, supply constraints of iPhone 5 and iPad mini are good problems to have, as iPad "hey! You can buy me too!" 4 looks to be passing the sales volume torch to its li'l sibling _already_.
