That's a good evaluation, Mav. It's clear that TC is beginning to put his personal "stamp" on 🎠in a variety of ways.

So, I think there are a few people out there that should send me a thanks. Towards the end of the day, I put in a limit order to buy on a downtick. Naturally, it all turned green after that.
You're welcome. It's all good.

Some news on the Asian front, which is bullish, and may have already been noted: " China Telecom (CHA) says it plans to begin selling the iPhone 5 in late November or early December, a little earlier than expected. During Apple's FQ4 call, Tim Cook would only say Apple expects December Chinese launch. China Unicom's (CHU) chairman is more cautious in setting a timetable. Meanwhile, RBC is predicting Apple will finally reach a deal with China Mobile (CHL) in 2013, perhaps even before the Chinese New Year - the iPhone 5 doesn't support CHL's TD-SCDMA 3G network. " seekingalpha.com/currents/post/656381?source=email_rt_mc_readmore&ifp=0Im confused, why does the article say the iPhone5 doesn't support CHL's network? Does it or not? It does not support their 3G network.

I just pulled out our Christmas lights and broke all the red ones, I hate red. Rick, made me laugh, thanks. The sad part is that red is my favorite color, I should be happy I guess. NOT, I think I need a new favorite color.

That's just Tim Cook's style. And being Tim Cook he probably _is_ paying some attention to AAPL's price. Not really for himself, but for employee/executive retention purposes and maybe even a little for shareholders... The trip down to 600 probably did not catch his attention, this trip to the 530's I am sure did. He made a comment a few months ago about getting past Q3 earnings and the stock would move up, it did. Nothing harsh like we would hear from his predecessor. TC is a different type a guy and I like his style.

Completely off topic........the IFC television network ( movie channel on most cable or satellite packages) is running a Star Trek movie marathon today and wants viewers to vote for their favorite captain...that fat pompous Kirk or the erudite, sophisticated Picard. Vote early and often. Take your mind off the markets with some galactic drama. Lovey....your favorite?

Looking for at least a small bounce next week... we are certainly due one. Hopefully history is on our side. Checking the weekly charts, the last time AAPL had eight consecutive down weeks was in the recession of 2000 when the share price slumped from $31.32 to $9.28. That sustained down period included the first of two profit warnings AAPL issued that year.

Mace wasn't particularly active the past year or so.
Mercel is off at Braeburn last I heard.

I offer the idea that much of the downtrend is a result of the election and the betting before the direction that Obama would win.
Capital gains tax rates are likely to rise, and some of the selling is to get out with one's profits while the rate is 15%.

Mark. mark...lets not overreact. Red is an excellent favorite color. I figured you would chime in. ;D Is it just me, but I feel like a weight was lifted yesterday. (not calling bottom) The drop from the 200 DMA was traumatic, yesterday felt like a band aid on someone who just went through the guillotine, but at this point I will take it. I was in a good enough mood to have a nice date night last night. Dinner and a movie. Went to see the new James Bond movie. (4 out of 5 stars) DC set the bar high with Casino Royale.

hi all, what a week. Don't post very often but I thought this article in my local paper was interesting. For those upset that Apple came out with an upgraded iPad when the previous one was just getting settled, the market for reselling ipads has turned to be quite lucrative and allows those who just bought to recoup a good chunk of their purchase and use it to upgrade to the latest. Competitor products apparently do not share in that resale value. Just thought I'd share. www.siliconvalley.com/ci_21967548/resale-market-apple-ipad-boomingFingers crossed for an up week, etc. JB

There are almost 2 months lefts in the year. The is nothing likely about it, CG are going up on LT holdings. I am not against the move to 20%, but the surtax crosses the line. I also think the dramatic hike in dividend taxation is just wrong. (I will say this about dividend though. I would like to see legislation passed to stop corporations from paying a dividend from borrowed funds) If a company is adding debt to the balance sheet they have no business paying a dividend.

I don't understand why people don't sell their stock in ensure themselves of a lower capital gains tax - them buy it back immediately thereafter. (I am talking about US citizens, of course). If you owned it lower, take your lower gain and up your basis by buying it right back. You can practically cross it to yourself. Wash sales are not applicable in this instance because you are taking (I am assuming) gains for the year. The government doesn't give a hoot if you reinvest immediately again. So why not pay (especially you long term holders) your lower tax rate and then jump right back in if you feel we may be potentially in a reversal? Food for thought.

The only reason I could think of would be having to reserve some of the gains to cover a large tax bill, resulting in fewer shares.

phoebear - wait until near the end of December, maybe.
Luckily, AAPL is fire sale, triple-blue-light-special oversold. So a lot of what could've "gone wrong" with AAPL already did. That "is there more downside?" is the tougher question to answer, but we mgiht know as soon as next week with the SMA-50 weekly battle (currently around 560, it should go down a bit next week).
Some technical types are saying AAPL needs to reclaim that MA quick, and though past isn't prelude the past few SMA-50 fallthroughs weren't pretty in the short-to-intermediate-term.
EDIT: Actually, going back to June 2006 and assuming freestockcharts.com is feeding me reliable data...whoa. (/Keanu)
SMA-50 (weekly) is a level WELL worth watching, in my humble opinion.
