The doldrums continue for our favorite fruit company and also for this forum. My guess is this will continue until the January announcement of the results for the Christmas quarter. I remain hopeful that next quarter could possibly get a boost from China results, both due to Chinese New Year (although it is very early, January 28) and the threat of possible actions by the Trump administration that could either raise prices or reduce availability of Apple products in the future.
Speaking of doldrums...
It has been quite a while since I have seen the lack of enthusiasm that currently exists in this forum. I guess this is the dark side of the iPhone juggernaut. The astounding domination by Apple of the profits in the mobile phone space is now taken entirely for granted by both pundits and investors. For anyone waiting for the next product from Apple that will be a similar financial home run, I am afraid that disappointment is likely inevitable. I certainly don't see VR/AR devices becoming even close to as nearly ubiquitous as mobile phones are. The most frustrating part for me is that despite their incredible success, Apple still gets as little respect in a P/E sense as they did when they were merely the Mac maker.
Ah well, enough venting for now. I am looking forward to what seems now to be almost an inevitable raise in the dividend pretty soon.

Certainly the overall image is not helped by stories of 2016 Macbook Pro video and battery issues. As mentioned previously what's happened to Q&A and BOOM it just Works!? I'decided to make a small contribution to the Christmas Quarter by acquiring a Mac Pro - the better to keep running Aperture in Yosemite, truly I don't have the time or the energy to learn another application and Aperture does what I need and a 3TB Time Capsule.
"Lt. Dan got me invested in some kinda Fruit Company, and then I got a call from him saying we didn't have to worry about Money no more, and that;s good one less thing..."

I have utility stocks that have outperformed AAPL in the last 5 year period. That is truly sad.

Seems clear to me that the Donald is talking about companies that move existing manufacturing jobs overseas. How to regulate the distinction between what was and will be is open for discussion.
This mornings tweets.
realDonaldTrump The U.S. is going to substantialy reduce taxes and regulations on businesses, but any business that leaves our country for another country, 12/4/16, 6:41 AM realDonaldTrump fires its employees, builds a new factory or plant in the other country, and then thinks it will sell its product back into the U.S. ...... 12/4/16, 6:49 AM realDonaldTrump without retribution or consequence, is WRONG! There will be a tax on our soon to be strong border of 35% for these companies ...... 12/4/16, 6:57 AM realDonaldTrump wanting to sell their product, cars, A.C. units etc., back across the border. This tax will make leaving financially difficult, but..... 12/4/16, 7:05 AM realDonaldTrump these companies are able to move between all 50 states, with no tax or tariff being charged. Please be forewarned prior to making a very ... 12/4/16, 7:21 AM realDonaldTrump expensive mistake! THE UNITED STATES IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS 12/4/16, 7:23 AM

I was just thinking about buying an iPad for our new home automation system, much cheaper than buying the associated keypad with the automation company (Control 4). The choices are confusing, and I'm a bit of a tech nerd. I miss the old Apple ..... too many products and too many variations , we as a company have been here before and it did not end well. Time for SOMEONE at Apple to remember the lessons of Steve Jobs. There is a iPAD mini 2 and a iPad mini 4 but no iPad mini 3 Sorry for the rant but I'm seeing things happen with this company that are very troubling. Divisions being disbanded (wireless routing), PC being IGNORED with regards to pro community ... small market true but part of Apple's DNA was to support the creative types, products being introduced before they are ready and not coming to market, companies outmaneuvering Apple on deals with content partners ... etc .... I'm long as this stock is still CHEAP by most metrics but I think they are dropping the ball left and right.

Another area missing from all discussions is Apple in Education. Sure, Apple is certainly *all over* education, but no love at all during keynotes. Fitness is the golden child lately. Back in the day they had Roger Rosner on all the time with cool demos. Has anyone even used iBook Author in the last year or so? It is at version 2.5, the license agreement is from June 2015, and Acknowledgements document is from back in 2014 (with most embedded tech from 2012 and earlier). Certainly there is newer tech that could enhance the education space, with VR being just one example, but the ability to go live, collaborate globally, build augmented reality exhibits, add biometrics to performance feedback.
Will Siri in the ear be the next "killer" human interface? All signs point to Apple's commitment to that idea. "Computer, locate Mr. Worf." "What time is the 3 o'clock Main Street Electric Parade?" "Have Commander Riker meet me in holodeck three." "Walk me through a dinner recipe using only baked beans, goldfish crackers, and peanut butter." "What planet is that next to the moon?" "Why does everyone around me seem to be talking to themselves?"

Certainly if you look at the way it's marketed Apple is committing to Siri. If you look at the actual product though, you wouldn't know it. The speech recognition is fine, but it seems like the AI component has hardly improved at all over the last several years. In my opinion, Siri has been a far bigger failure than Maps ever was. At least with Maps, Apple fairly quickly recognized the problems and it has turned into a pretty good product (searching still needs a ton of improvement though). Siri continues to be useless to me and everybody else I know.

The stock is still cheaper than most and there's huge dividend growth potential ahead. I don't doubt Apple's ability to generate large amounts of cash for years to come. I do question their recent execution problems and some of the decisions they are making. My weighting in AAPL is definitely lower than it used to be. Do you disagree with my assessment of Siri? I'm just calling it as I see it. I'd love to be able to actually use it as advertised.

After a long time of avoiding Siri because of its frequent failure to me, I have begun to "cozy up". I am NO expert. Just anecdotal evidence. I am using Siri more.
