Congrats on your 40th chinacat and thanks for posting the link on Project Titan. Interesting article but it feels like a rather shallow interpretation of what's happening at Apple and their road forward. I'm guessing...,guessing...,that their bet on med-tech is an order of magnitude greater than Project Titan. For that matter, I'd give anything to be able to see a board listing all of their long term development projects with intersections attached. I bet it's something to behold.

I agree with you, which is why I thought the key line in the article was: "We do have a large project going and are making a big investment in this," Cook said. "The autonomous systems can be used in a variety of ways and a vehicle is only one. There are many different areas of it and I don't want to go any further with that."

I think you're mistaken. Apple Watch can store music and connect to AirPods. No iPhone necessary. Cellular allows making and receiving phone calls, but that's really a marginal use case these days, and getting more so. It's possible that the cellular connection in the watch will be a data-only LTE connection. Apple Watch can sync through the cloud already. It's a limited use case, but if the Watch is on wifi and the phone has both bluetooth and wifi off but cellular data on, they'll sync. It works for email at least. Not too useful, but it works and proves the concept of and foreshadows the more useful case to come. Add stand-alone cellular data to the Watch and you can leave your phone on Wifi at home or wherever and stay in sync.

This pic of someone holding a iPhone (article supplied by Chinacat) seems to subtly and naturally assert that a fingerprint sensor will be on the back, if not all variations of the new phones.

Most interesting piece in FT, not paywalled via Real Clear Politics: Apple Searches For the Next Big ThingAnd the always wrong, but never in doubt Doug Kass is short AAPL and AMZN. FWIW, I have capitulated on AMZN. It is dominating/destroying retail and has redefined fundamentals, at least for itself. Truth be told, I have become an Amazon addict and need to go to rehab. After months and months of free Prime trials, I actually paid for a year of Prime last week, and I have two Amazon credit cards. Amazon, not Microsoft, assimilated me. Happy anniversary Chinacat.

I hope you are wrong. It's also showing the camera lens horizontally. Every other "leaked" photo or prediction has been in agreement the lenses will be vertical. I tend to think the one in the photo is a fake.

Apple Searches For the Next Big Thing provides a summary that is pretty close to my own feelings about Apple's next product pivot, as indicated in the discussion above about Tim's comments on the most recent earnings call. Perhaps some would call it indecisive, but I think it has more to do with feeling that one is on the right track even when the final goal is still somewhat fuzzy. That's always the challenge of investing in futures, and those that wait until they are 100% sure of the proper direction may find themselves missing the boat. It takes courage, but having the vast resources, in both monetary and human capital, that Apple has certainly reduces the risk.

As many of you already know, I have been skeptical about VR in the consumer space, but The Burgeoning Commercial VR Opportunity presents a good summary of differences in the commercial market that may provide better opportunities.

Yes I agree its not a 7s or 8 but the rumors also have been saying Oled screens may warrant the fingerprint sensor in the back for now being a more natural way to balance the phone during brick & mortar pay purchases. With a facial sensor in the front. Just saying ok, I'm aware that many people would not like it in the back. Some of the rumored cases and/or phone casements show a round hole just below the logo.
