The iOS public beta with automobile lockout is really nice. At least Apple will not be on the hook for future lawsuits because the feature is available and people would choose not to employ it. Rez, I was unable to find a story describing this feature. Can you point to one, or say more about what you know? Thanks in advance. I personally do not care for earbuds, but Years After the iPod, Apple Still Leads the Way in Audio Tech says that folks who do like them think very highly of AirPods, as well as pointing to them as yet another possible "free" throw-in to mitigate the expected high cost of the coming iPhone Pro. Others have suggested that the free throw-ins some are expecting will focus on services, which I feel is more likely due to the possibility of additional revenue because only first year will be "free." I heartily agree with those who are glad that Apple shifts responsibility for Siri to operating system chief. How such a core technical capability could have ever been the responsibility of Marketing is beyond me. I expect this change to have far-reaching impact in Apple's software future, as many of the underlying analytical capabilities are sure to have multiple uses. Hope all AFB'ers have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. It's a glorious, if slightly cool, day here in Boston, so I am going to go take advantage of it.

Here's an article: www.macrumors.com/2017/06/30/ios-11-do-not-disturb-while-driving/It's pretty slick. In my experience it engages when the iPhone reconnects to a previously linked bluetooth dash unit. I saw it with both my vehicles (Toyota stock, MINI stock) and a rented Nissan Versa (don't judge). It's not tied to the A.I. detecting movement on roads, passing a certain speed - but it might be if you don't have bluetooth linked. The article says it detects automobile acceleration, which means if you have the feature enabled you'll need to tell the iPhone "I'm not driving" if you're a passenger. It's not that annoying in practice, just click the button and you have full access. And investigator would determine that you lied to the iPhone when you clicked that while driving. Not Apple's fault you lied to yourself!

Still wondering what y'all think about the Apple Watch Series 3 and the Edition model. Posted in the iStuff thread. Will they keep Ceramic? I hope so, because that's the case I really want with Series 3 features. Will GOLD make a comeback? Will they switch to new materials like Titanium or maybe Wood? I have the Stainless 42mm but was wearing the Aluminum 38mm for a month as part of a clinical trial. Now the 42mm looks huge on my wrist, and the stainless seems really heavy. Seriously thinking about switching down to 38mm for a Series 3, but of course keep the 42mm 'original' for special occasions. Any other thoughts about the upcoming Watch refresh?!?

Trump: US considering 'stopping all trade' with countries doing business with N. Korea story at BBC, NYT, The Hill and others. Oh sure, just willfully tank the global economy, why not. The US would be fine without China trade. Or maybe he could use his stubby little fingers to flip through a book or two on how this whole "economy" thing works instead of tweeting ignorance and idiocy to the world.

Yes the global economy is a consideration. But what the hell is Kim Jong-un's strategy for development of nuclear weapons in particular long range nuclear ballistic missiles? North Korea is and has been under no threat of invasion and they know it. I can only come up with a couple of reasons. North Korea intends to invade South Korea and wants nuclear capability as a threat to prevent US and International intervention or Kim Jong-un & his military leaders are totally insane. Unfortunately I believe both are true.

It just seems unfathomable to me that no one can take this guy (Kim Jong un) out. How is it possible that he hasn't been assassinated yet? That's the only way to resolve this imho. Harsh? Sure. Your point?

Your point? It's a police state. Same reason Castro and Saddam held power. Shoot Kim and your whole family is throw into a slave labor camp. It is a truly evil regime. Should have taken Daddy Kim out, but instead Clinton's SecState, Madeline Half-bright, appeased daddy. Even gave him a signed Michael Jordan basketball. Appeasing idiots.

Wouldn't that just create a massive war? From what I understand, he's just a figure head there. The real power is with the Generals.

Forgive me for mentioning Apple in a political forum, but ...
Opinions on the rumored "iPhone Edition" name for the new top-level phone? For me, it's "meh" at best. I still think "iPhone Pro" is more descriptive and more consistent with the rest of the product lines.

Me too. Have no idea what "edition " is supposed to suggest.
With all the talk about North Korea, I believe the market and AAPL will be down tomorrow.

What happens in that part of the world in particular affects Apple so it's ok to bring it up without any heated debate ensuing - esp. if we will have turmoil with China in some way. Don't know where this is all going to lead but I'm hoping just a lot of testosterone talk and no action....but there are lots of lunatics out there. Earlier - on a very formidable site I saw this: Nikkei news: Japan preparing for possible evacuation of its citizens out of S.Korea. I have not been able to verify it though but it is very unsettling. On a lighter note - has anyone done the "Upgrade Program" with Apple or their carrier? (Getting a new one each year) Do you like it - do you recommend it - does a specific carrier have a great deal that you love (Basically I would like to copy your homework! )

The WEST along with JAPAN & SOUTH KOREA should BE PREPARED TO BAN ALL IMPORTS FROM CHINA.  IS INVOLVED.

I can get those opinions on any news channel. I come here for people with interest in and knowledge about Apple who provide information and opinions about Apple.

I made the original post. I didn't specifically mention Apple because it seemed obvious that the impact on Apple and AAPL could be devastating.
The vast majority of Apple's products are produced in China. There is an old adage about putting all your eggs in one basket...

There was nothing political about your post, it just stated the facts. Other posters ON BOTH SIDES used it as an excuse to vent their political views.
My comment was meant to be a small joke to nudge folks back on track, but I should have known better. Mea culpa.

Ironically, the reason I did not add any commentary to the original post was because it might have opened the gates.
Thank you for your efforts to keep us on track (AAPL).
