Wolverine, I think you are talking about two different things. The daily, weekly, monthly price swings in AAPL are what drive the manipulation and Big Boy talk and the attendant frustration. The innovation and long-term prospects of Apple are a different story, and one that many here have tried to respond to. Apple has a skunk works funded by billions in cash investment. We can't see where the growing patent portfolio and R and D will lead, but why believe that a culture of innovation that has again and again proven disruptive to established industries will suddenly run dry? While past performance is no guarantee of future results, why not continue to have faith in a company that has 120 billion in cash, growth potential in its existing markets, has just re-worked its entire product line to great reviews, has a stock trading at a P/E of 13 and can fund its growth out of cash flow while stifling competitors through component deals, marketing blitzes and brand cachet that captures the profitable end of any sale? I'll stick with that company. As will I: I just want to be sure that we are thinking through all the possibilities. Microsoft has had even more money in R & D than Apple, yet they didn't have Steve Jobs to guide the big picture, and now we don't either. We may–OR MAY NOT–have a terrific future of innovating our way through a variety of big industries. It remains to be seen ... that's all I'm saying. We need to be aware of any signals to the contrary, and to truly "think different." I feel like a skeptic in a Bigfoot true believers forum. I have not said anything that is beyond logical skepticism, yet I keep being attacked and called names by a variety of people. Investors need to be very careful of groupthink ... Get over yourself. Simply because we don't find your posts illuminating doesn't mean we aren't open to intelligent bear fundamental cases. But there are none I've read, because AAPL trading at a 13 P/E cannot be justified. As Brian S. Hall has pointed out, there isn't an Apple competitor that wouldn't trade places with Apple in a second. And they all trade at a higher P/E. Seriously, after a 200-point drop, we don't need you to warn us of being careful.

You don't do that by "faith-based investing," which many here clearly do.Who? I want names.

Adding to the streams of consciousness and random things, Ballmer is standing in front of me. Anyone have a question for him? Like, "Do you want to play with my iPad mini?" I was once at a wedding in Maine. The Maid of Honor worked for Microsoft in Redmond, needles to say I was in full Apple Kool-Aid Mode! At the time (dated) I had a Powerbook (G3) Wallstreet which also ran some variant of Windows. As a peace offering to her I booted into the Mac OS in another room and then walked to where she was standing while booting into Windows, When she heard the windoze chime she turned towards the sound as if to get assimilated with a look of happiness on her face. Suddenly she she see me walking towards her & the white Apple Logo on the lid of my Wallstreet and her whole face crumpled in incomprehension: "Thats A Mac!? yes says I "And your running Windows!!!??" Yes says I ... Just curious...why were you using a computer at a wedding?

I use my iPhone to get Proboards almost every day including today and haven't had an issue. I have ATT as a carrier if that helps. It's also great at giving me football scores too ;D
Tonight's Packers vs. Giants is going to be awesome -- I can feel it already. Even tho I'm a Giants fan, I am also an Aaron Rogers fan -- it's gonna be great!

Nikkei at 9400 and HangSeng at nearly 22,000 are bullish numbers. HangSeng is statistically more resilient than Nikkei. Anybody have real news on Asian economic growth ?

Well, there was this from a little while back: www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/22/us-china-pmi-hsbc-flash-idUSBRE8AL03E20121122I'd add in follow-through from the positive US markets session on Friday. Futures within the margin of error, not like they've been particularly instructive lately. I'm looking to see some positive action for AAPL for Monday - and sideways is still OK, though the immediate trend sure looks like UP to me.

For Mercel--Apple former CEO John Sculley photographed in October 1987 juggling apples. Here are my contact sheets since I don't have a negative scanner for my 4x5--only Hasselbald or 35mm scans.

Thanks for sharing! Excellent historical perspective. I don't suppose you got to photograph the "other" Apple exec though, huh. :/

NAS levels are too AAPL-weighted. Funny you say that iPad, Redler mentioned that we're at an inflection point of buyable dips (with the unspoken trader's caveat of "until they're not" I assume ) SPX recovered very nicely from the 200-day test. AAPL ended trading like there was unfinished business. SMA-50 test passed exceptionally well for a level failure. The technical signs are positive. Whether it means anything, we'll know soon...

Thanks for sharing! Excellent historical perspective. I don't suppose you got to photograph the "other" Apple exec though, huh. :/ He was fun and gracious. Pretty good at PR. :-) And the other Apple CEO....sadly, I never had the opportunity. But, if I did, I know, I would have been terrified, especially, to shoot him in 4x5. I probably could have handled it if I were following him around his office with a 35mm camera--ala Annie Liebovitz!! That's a little less frightening! Portraiture, like this, is an extremely one-on-one situation--you, with the camera, and the subject, alone before you. If you connect, it can result in a tremendous image that you produce together. But, if it's difficult, that's the worst. I had to shoot Nancy Reagan in New York, once....that was the worst!! HaHa (She's a perfectly nice person, just, difficult to bring out of herself in a photograph...we just couldn't connect...and I failed...although, it was a perfectly OK portrait).

I second (or third) the thanks for sharing. Sculley should have stuck to selling soda pop. They look familiar so am not sure if it was yours that got published or you shared previously. Anyway, good job!

Who cares about the DJA at 29 in red. It could be 29 in green and mean about as much. I think AAPL sees solid green on Monday.

I hate Sculley , but +1 to everything else. Why do you hate Sculley? He's been clear he regrets how he handled Jobs, and about how painful he still feels about losing Jobs as a friend. If Sculley had been recalcitrant about firing Jobs all these years later, seeing what Apple has become, that would be one thing. But whenever I see Sculley interviewed, you can see him wince, almost as if he is in pain, when he talks about it. I think a bad decision made nearly 30 years ago should be forgiven, when even Jobs admitted leaving Apple and starting over was beneficial for him.
