Another great post iPad.
[/kissass] :-)
It's interesting for me to personally reflect and recall that a year or so ago when I was new to AFB I was a total TA sceptic. Now I wouldn't dream of making a move without a TA check, despite still being a Fundies homeboy. I still believe fundamentals determine the destination, but absolutely TA helps you anticipate the route. Now EW theory is winning me over too, as an "as well as" not instead of.

Just noticed that the 1 year price target on yahoo changed from 760 to 708 today. There is an effort to keep AAPL under 590 in the AH session.

I'm working hard to restore Karma points to those who lost them unfairly, but it takes time; for some reason the system allows me to exalt only one person per session. I feel like I'm clapping for Tinkerbell to live here...

AAPL's close: Wheeeeeeeee Mercel's human rights violation (Frankfurt Convention on Cruelty to Eyesight): GAHHHHHHH The Silent Smiter: Petty as hell. You can't smite my portfolio though! (oh sure you can say I suck at trading but I already know that)

While the country style pork ribs are on the Jenn-Air grill, I have some time to describe what I intend to do.
I have some Aprils I bought on the way down. They are pretty healthy - well they are off the endangered species anyway - so.....
They constitute about 10.5% of our self-managed accouts
Around a TTM P/E of around 13.75, I am going to sell about a fourth of them. I want them to be gone before the earnings report in January, so I am thinking of letting some go every $10 bucks or so (which roughly equals .25 TTM P/E). I am not planning on a P/E much above 14.5 before the earnings report. I am predicting it will not go much lower than the 13.35, and I do not feel at all willing to let any go at much below my plan at this point.
I am considering these rough guidelines rather than hard targets, BTW

And with Iphone 5 lag times on the Apple website down to one week...and stock in hand virtually everywhere, the magician Mr. Cook does it again. No fears now that sales will be constrained this holiday season due to production issues. Now, let's get that China Telecom (or was it Unicom?) launch going in December and add a few million more by year's end.

Mercel, that's your Action Alerts Plus right there. Trim and trail is always a solid strategy for uptrends IMHO. As for me...I guess part of it depends on market open tomorrow...(no Mercel, it's not Nov 30s )

I noticed the ads are back. Does the page count (for ad free) include "guests" or just members? As far as I can tell, when I viewed these pages as a guest, there were ads. I had to apply credits mid-day today...we had a busy month! So you shouldn't be seeing any ads anymore when you're logged in... Ad free only counts for members, not guests. Guests see ads.

Visited the Apple Store in Danbury, CT to replace a defective MBP power adapter under AppleCare. Left without buying anything which to my bride is a small miracle. Store is a "medium" format store with a fairly standard layout. Apple reps have shifted to red shirts for the holidays. LOTs of them in the store. Traffic picked up measurably between 10am and 12pm. Just a side note, unrelated to trading. But interesting. I applied for pretty much any job at Apple. Got an email last week to meet today for a group interview for part-time holiday sales work ("specialist"). Expected to be put under NDA but it was just an open discussion in the mall food court. On the clipboard was a page for C-V additions and schedule availability. The second page was a dozen or so knowledge questions like "what is the difference between RAM and a hard drive" and "name three Apple products that use Wifi." Some were a bit harder like "what built-in mac software can be used to share a photo slideshow?" and "state two ways to back up a mac". My comment to my bride was "Like shooting fish in a barrel." About an hour later I got called to schedule a one-on-one interview, which will happen tomorrow. If I'm not under NDA I'll report back. Their on-boarding and training process is what I'm interested in, even if I net $0 while working there. Gotta get an offer first!

I assume you all saw that massive cross at the close? 1,485,104 shs. @ $589.27 That's just under $1 bln on each side. Any thoughts? Pardon my ignorance, but could you explain the "massive cross"? In most crosses - one side, the buyer side or the seller side (it is almost ALWAYS THE SELL SIDE) show up first. The broker they are executing through will then build a book and get levels of interest on the opposite side. (So assuming it was a seller - outgoing calls are made to clients who might be potential buyers.) Once the firm (broker) has enough interest (and by the way they can buy/sell for the house- i.e. themselves - as well) they sell and buy at the same price (hence the cross) fulfilling all indications of interest. After the cross there may have been some residual shares - which is maybe why the stock was off slightly in AH. But once the shares were all spoken for it looks like word may have gotten around and it closed higher in after hours. This is all very positive. A large piece to be crossed and probably all spoken for...is a very good thing. That's my take on it. (Hope I haven't confused you.)

How do you know this happened? Is the reference to the 1,485,104 shares @ $589.27 mean all those shares traded at once, hence the cross?

Don't get Chas or AT started. Mav, what did I do? Mercel, what the hell was that pic? Jeezlouisiana. Firestorm, we get it. What do you care if anyone here loses their shirts being uberBulls (we're not)? If anything, gauge the level of bullishness (reduce your risk when everyone here is shopping for new cars) or buy when everyone here is throwing up on their keyboards (me and Nate). You don't even need some EW bullhooey 😀. iPad, in your discussion of TA, you didn't mention that certain scenarios give you better odds of a movement in a certain direction. What was the RSI at $505, odds were very high for a bounce there. Unfortunately, we can be wrong for long periods. Phoebes, thanks for the explanation. Ed, good luck on the job hunt. Apple will be very lucky to have a guy like you working for them. If not, you can always get the gig selling the RC Helicopters in the mall ;D

Not advocating actually doing this, but if you had gone all in at 705 with 50% margin, and your broker has a 30% margin maintenance requirement, you still would not have triggered a margin call at 505. Interesting, isn't it?

iPad, in your discussion of TA, you didn't mention that certain scenarios give you better odds of a movement in a certain direction. What was the RSI at $505, odds were very high for a bounce there. Unfortunately, we can be wrong for long periods. Yep. What Chas said. Except on this downwave, the oscillators (RSI, Fast Sto, etc.) embedded in oversold territory which is VERY rare. In such cases -- as with the common embedded overbought -- the oscillator is more confirming a strong trend rather than foreshadowing a reversal. So, when this happens, it's the *least* useful of our technical indicators.
