Jos. A Banks Buy one suit - get 2 suits for free PLUS 2 shirts and 2 ties also for FREE and here is the best part - a FREE ANDROID PHONE.
For the love of God - when will Android phones be acknowledged for the piece of crap they are...unreal.

1% down in PM. Fill gap?

I never understood the PM -- 75k shares drops the stock 5 points (~1%). Completely irrational. We'll see what happens when the real market opens - don't get it.

I expect a dip today, based on the Digitimes report, quoted on MacRumors, of serious supply constraints (again) affecting the iMac and iPad Mini, in the latter case cutting estimated shipments in this quarter from 10m to 6m, which would have a material effect on earnings, I expect (maybe a dollar?). Not a long term concern, perhaps, as most of that demand should transition into the following quarter, but the market does tend to overreact to next quarterly earnings.
If we're lucky (the longs), then the recent uptrend will be stronger than this report, but I'm sceptical.

Thing is - I saw that report (Digitimes) tweeted twice yesterday. I thought it would have been part of yesterday's decline....not today's...but what do I know.

I guess it depends when the report was first released - Apple did decline towards the end of the trading session (I know the unresolved fiscal cliff probably played a part). Also, it takes a while for relatively secondary news to be disseminated - I follow Apple closely and only saw it today.

The low-end ones surely are all crap, but the high-end ones are VERY nice pieces of machinery!!!!

Despite what I wrote a couple of days ago, I sold 80% of our Aprils and 1/3rd of our Jan 2014 $600's yesterday morning, in part because I had a bad feeling, in part due to the fiscal slope and in large part because of Apple's gains over the previous 5 or so trading days.
About 30% cash, 30% AAPL and the rest in divvy stocks - those include a small AAPL share position

That phone is with a 2 year contract, so its really the carriers willing to pay for crap, then hook the user into it with a contract. I guess its up to the end user to discriminate. Some Android phones may be much better than others, but I suspect a portion of the user public hears "Android vs iPhone" so much that they equate all Androids as equal and get suckered in. This will eventually hurt the "Android" brand.

Remember, that if it is true, you need to multiply "crushing Kindle in sales" times "crushing each sale in profit" ;-)

That linked article cannot even interpret the data properly. The numbers are not tablet sales, but the percentage of purchases made from various devices that people already own.

Yes, they need to distinguish "device use" from "device sales". However, I do find it interesting that the iPad is crushing Kindle in the device use category, since AMZN is banking of making its income from use of the device and not sales of the device.

There was some discussion the other day about AAPL having exponential growth, and the point was made, incorrectly, that the exponent may be larger or smaller. Equations for exponential growth have the exponent as t, for time. It's the growth rate, r, which forms part of the base, 1 + r, that may be larger or smaller.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled thread...

What are you guys showing as LOD? 572.26 Yeah, 572.28 for me, that does not close the gap unfortunately. I hate it when the sneaky bastards do this. They are out to get me, I swear. Agree with a separate thread for the special divy discussion, it has already gone to far.

I learned a new word today. It might be worse to be hit by asteroids than astroids. Not sure. astroid noun Mathematics a hypocycloid with four cusps (like a square with concave sides).
