AAPL will likely now go lower because of technical indicators, which is now saying don't buy Apple here. The buyers will return when we get some TA signal that we've bottomed or EW says we have. Makes perfect sense. Not.
Fast Money guys say the chart is bad -- as if THAT should be our basis for choosing which stock to buy or sell. It's total B.S. and it is RUINING the stock market as a place to grow one's wealth.
I'm out when I recover. Wall Street can go to hell. Now, let's get Tim to give us a great interview and news to squeeze the F'ing life out of the shorts (not that I'm expecting any news to matter where AAPL is concerned).

I'm looking for a move to about 620. We're going through the motions of tracing out (another!) bottom. W bottom? What is the eta for 620 prediction? Thanks. When you say "tracing out another bottom" - do we think we're done tracing? or more to go - based purely on TA

I like Zaky but he's predicting 56 EPS. Wouldn't this mean AAPL would need 25 EPS for January? That's a little too bullish IMO. I'd love that though, lol. Zaky has more optimism than is justified. But hey, let him dream a good one. ;D

Now this story makes more sense as the reason for the drop. Again, Digitimes. Their accuracy is very suspect.

Podboy, the post by AZ for Q! is dated May 2012. You might need to take that one down. I doubt very seriously he still stands by those estimates. They are both dated May, they need to go.

I know they were from May 2012. I was just showing what he was predicting. Obviously, I know Zaky is not still predicting 750 for this January.

I'll let it slide for now.
Oh wait it's Wednesday, not Thursday. More time to gather data on this BS sell off.
Might not be a bad time to investigate common stock as rocket fuel...eventually

Pod, you posted them as being from the chat room. It is a fair assumption that it would be up to date, not 6 months old. Your comment about needing $25 EPS does not bolster your case.

Jeebus! We are going for a top 3 entry today, possibly even the top. Thanks very much for sharing! Why do you care about the largest dollar drop, instead of the largest percentage drop? The only difference is a split. Looks like I've owned over 5 of the 10 largest percentage drops, but also 4 of the largest gains. We haven't been in the top 10 gains since Oct '99. Aside from one day in Sept '08, it's been a decade since a top 10 percentage loss day....though Sept 29 2000's drop of nearly 52% makes every other big loss day look like a walk in the park.

EoD selloff cause...
people were hoping for a pop to save themselves? forced selling due to brokers and margin calls from the drop today? forced selling due to brokers prepping for the margin call rules starting tomorrow? technical suicide again?

China iPhone pre-orders are reported to be 100k, if I didn't misread. Isn't this pathetic news, in a country of 1.4 bn people?
Only relief is having bought at $520-530

Zaky was still expecting about that high a month and a half ago before Oct earnings. I have a copy of his earnings expectations going forward (posted on Appleinsider back in May) and he was expecting even a hair higher going into Oct. It's tough trying to par back expectations after years of having Apple beat the snot out of them. Some people have done ok with trimming, but others still post ones like Apple is likely to keep knocking it out of the whole ballfield instead of just getting an in field homerun. I based some of my options purchases off of Zaky's estimates, but scaling earnings growth back (I think I used both 50% of his expected growth, or 10% off the total) and using a P/E of 13 (instead of his 16 or so). Right now it's looking like even those aren't conservative enough, but over the long run they will probably work out. I'm about ready to take the bear by it's ears, sell some big chunks of stock, and buy ATM '14 spreads. Tempting at times...

It's funny. In an attempt to lower their risk they actually create huge volatility that increases risk.

How does this help? so much for 'getting the retail investor to trade again'. i'm petrified to trade this right now, and also unable to once again.

"Death spiral"? That's a little extreme. Negative feedback loop, yep.
Give it another day of minus 35 points, then maybe I'd see something resembling a death spiral (looming for the entire market).
