The markets and AAPL are all green at the open, with AAPL gaining about half a buck. Let's see if we can approach that ATH today. Made on an iPad Pro is sub-titled "How the 12.9-inch iPad Pro took me by surprise and replaced my laptop." I love my iPad, but it's pretty much a consumption device only for me, and I can't imagine giving up our iMac as far as productive activities. Apple's Airpods Are an Omen uses the author's enthusiasm for his AirPods as a basis for predicting possible social interaction evolutions. While I loved losing myself in music via headphones when I was in college, I have almost never used earbuds with my Apple devices, but then again, I rarely use public transportation any more or find myself in situations where private audio is useful. A while ago it seemed like Apple's autonomous vehicle project might be coming to an end, or at least winding down. Patently Apple has a story about some new related technology in Apple Invents an Autonomous Vehicle Guidance System that Recognizes Intent Signals from Authorized Drivers, which makes me wonder whether Apple may just aim to be a technology provider for autonomous vehicle manufacturers. Shout out to Since84, and hope he's back soon.

Usual Apple basher Ashraf Eassa surprisingly offers Apple Just Proved These Critics Wrong, which posits that the usability of iOS 12 on older devices contradicts the claim that Apple's recent problems with batteries on such devices was a case of planned obsolescence. The commenters virulently disagree.

"Apple's AirPods Are an Omen" is a beautifully written article. Consider this quote: "They occupy an orifice in your head. They whisper directly to your brain. They fit inside a closed palm like a secret." I agree that the Apple Watch, AirPods, and ubiquitous connectivity are transforming our world in ways subtle ways. The telephone and telegraph changed our concept of time. Before their instantaneous movement of information, the delay between when an event happened and when we learned about it could be weeks. The difference in information meant that people lived in different worlds. Imagine how it would have been to live in San Francisco and not learn about 9/11 for several months. James Gleick's book, "The Information" is a great investigation of how we are shaped by information.
Once we are constantly connected via AirPods, our watch and 5G (maybe 6G) our basic definition of self could be challenged. There was a time when our idea of knowledge was what we had learned. For some this included the knowledge of how to find things out, i.e. how to do research in a library. Today, most of that has been replaced by "Hey Siri". When was the last time you argued for hours over some disputed fact?
But the changes run deeper. Much of our identity is based on those people we interact with frequently, our family, our co-workers, our neighbors. But now, we belong to and are defined by a much wider cohort. This forum, for many of us, is as much a part of our identity as our neighbors. The connection to others is no different in kind than it was when we were sending letters by Pony Express, but the difference in degree is enormous. The difference between interacting via text on an iDevice and the ever present connectivity of the coming technology is equally disrupting. When the voices in our head are literally other voices, how will that affect our sense of self?

PSA:
I like my Air Pods a lot. I bought from Costco, and they were going back because of fit issues. But then I found these foam covers over at Amazon. About $3.50 for 100. I can send a pair if someone wishes to try, but for ~$3.00 you might as well try them. They're a bit difficult to slip on, but for me worth it. They hold the Air Pods at the position/angle I place them, and there is a small benefit of isolation. The shipping took a couple of weeks.
I tried the silicone ones with the wing, and they did not fit me.

I just looked and their Price: $0.99 + $1.88 shipping. They have white ones now.
