Thanks Chinacat for kicking off the day in Since84's absence. Here is another story/note from PED's site: BMO-Tim LongBesides the fact that I think he's wrong in his conclusions (one of the comments outlines why very nicely), this note is likely just one in a long line of stories about how Apple will "miss" its iphone numbers this quarter for whatever reason. It did get me thinking. How long will quarterly iphone numbers actually matter vs. expectations? I think we have many, many years to go, but I look forward to a time where there is a focus only on revenue & earnings (if that ever happens). As services and the 'other' category become more and more important, the growth or lack of growth in iphones should become less significant.

A commentator there questions Long's math, effectively.

www.taipeitimes.com/News/biz/archives/2018/07/11/2003696450Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密), a major assembler of Apple Inc’s iPhones, yesterday reported its highest June revenue ever, driven by demand for consumer electronics, and posted faster sequential growth than its smaller domestic peers. Revenue rose 12.33 percent monthly and 23.72 percent annually to NT$389.89 billion (US$12.82 billion), the highest level for the month of June, the company said. Revenue last quarter rose 5.1 percent from NT$1.03 trillion in the January-to-March quarter to NT$1.81 trillion, also a record for the company, a filing with the Taiwan Stock exchange showed. That brought total revenue in the first half of this year to NT$2.11 trillion, up 11.31 percent from NT$1.89 trillion a year earlier. The gains last month were primarily driven by Hon Hai’s consumer electronics business, which grew the fastest, followed by communications and computing, the company said. In June last year, computing was the company’s No. 2 growth driver, while communications was No. 3, the company added. Hon Hai, which has held the lion’s share at Apple’s smartphone supply contracts, appears to be unaffected by a lull ahead of the launch of new iPhones in September. The company has received increasing orders from Chinese Android smartphone makers, including Huawei Technologies Co (華為) and Xiaomi Corp (小米), and it has been ramping up orders for its bid to revive the Nokia smartphone brand following an acquisition in 2016, analysts have said.

PED also has a (de-paywalled) piece on Merrill Lynch and Apple's AR: Merrill Lynch takes deep dive into Apple AR, likes what it sees
I know Google Glass is dorky, but I am all for some hands-free way to interact with my mobile device when doing other things like hiking. I feel much less guilty reading Twitter when I'm doing something else like exercising. Honestly, I want self-driving cars just so I can be productive on the road.
And who the hell is Tim Long? Always some guy you've never heard of trying to make his name trashing Apple. What a maroon. Reminds me of that Apple-hating ANALyst who was working out of his garage all those years ago, can't remember his name.
