Groupon was running a promo for Apple Music - 4 months free trial (1 extra month compared to the standard 3 months for new users). Started this morning and I definitely like it more than my XM online subscription.

Not posting a lot but cont to visit and lurk. Happy for everyone that are regular visitors here. The discussions always interesting and informative and help me feel confident buying and holding. It’s a bit strange but as the per share price cont to climb, I would normally fell more uncertian about this being a value investment but the value argument seems to be making more sense as time goes on. You don’t see that very often. Warren buffet seems to agree. It’s the people on this board and Horace and Gene that have helped keep me in this stock. Thanks to you all. And with this big milestone I will again suggest a get together for face to face discussions. Vegas is waiting. Eric in Austin As I woke up this morning, I was thinking how so many hedgies tried but capitulated (Einhorn, Icahn), but it finally took Uncle Warren to get on board to push us to $1T. Not to give him too much credit of course, but he has such gravitas, nobody challenges him. You want Buffett on your side. I'd like to give some credit to James Altucher, who in 2011 not only called AAPL a $1T/$1000 stock, but a $2T/$2000 stock (pre-split of course). I always had this - among other things of course - in the back of my mind when all the experts said to sell AAPL. I even told my accountant this when AAPL was in the $500's. And she remembered when we hit $1000/$142. If I ever see Altucher, I'm buying him a drink.
As for Zaky, his heart was in the right place. But, picking a good stock is one thing; picking the actual time that it pays off is entirely another magnitude of difficulty. I hope he has recovered.
I only do spreads these days, and not AAPL, but I must say, those 6/2020 $200's are looking tasty.

I remember in the mid 2000s' watching Apple hit $200 and I couldn't believe how much money we had made ... I was much younger with a new daughter ..... fast forward to now and all I can say is Apple has changed our lives .... several houses (upgrades) and another kid later much of what we have been able to achieve has been because we made that decision to invest years ago. I'm completely indebted to Steve Jobs, Tim Cook and the rest of the company. A VERY VERY BIG .... CHEERS TO THE LONGS! Same for me... AAPL mae it possible to retire at 55, enjoy life.... Can't thanks those people enough. Will buy a new car soon (Model 3) so it will have a AAPL as licence plate to remind me. Now's as good a time as any to give thanks as well. I won't say the word but there's a new shiny 4 wheeled object in my garage with a 911 moniker paid for with cash without even having to sell any shares... Apple has been an unbelievable investment, thank you Steve, Tim and all the many talented, dedicated employees of Apple!

I think the GS upgrade is responsible for the 201 move more then anything else. My target is now 215 by Sept. Solid quarter. Biggest takeaway is that people will pay an average of $700 for iPhone and I don’t see that number changing much for at least 5 more years. Brian White’s target is very possible but he is usually too high for a 12 month target. I can see it being reach by Christmas next year. I am curious to see what TC was referring to when he talked about new products with new service revenue stream. VR gaming headset and new movie subscription come to mind in the next 24 months. As far as stock price I can see a 12% correction from ATH either in Oct or Dec. one option I see is Apple expanding on service via Apple TV that replace the setup box (new version?) One thing that I notices yesterday "For Apple TV, we've seen major growth in sales since the introduction of Apple TV 4K last fall as video providers around the world choose Apple TV 4K to deliver their subscription services. Later this year, Charter Communications will begin offering Apple TV 4K to its customers in nearly 50 million U.S. households, providing access to live channels and tens of thousands of on-demand programs via the Spectrum TV app on Apple TV 4K, iPhone and iPad."Could this be the Trojan horse that will let Apple help us cut the cord (cable)? Give me an AppleTV with recording option and access to the few "standard" network I still listen to and I can take out the PVR from my cable company.

Good find I need to re read the CC TC did say that he sees faster cord cutting. Big changes are happening in the cable industry Internet and movie productions are the future I saw a story about the new Air having an LTE chip I can see a day where you have access to all your present cable services anywhere there is 5G

Well done, longs! And well done, Apple! The road to cash neutral, paved with growth, is a fine road to travel. I believe the next $100/share will be faster and with less drama than the last $100 rise.

Looks like there were 4,842,917,000 fully diluted shares outstanding on June 30 which puts $1T at $206.49.
Within reach. 😁

AND NOW: 5,213,840,000 shares of common stock, par value $0.00001 per share, issued and outstanding as of April 21, 2017 32,700,000 reduction Luca Maestri: We returned over $10 billion to investors during the quarter. We paid $3 billion in dividends and equivalents, and we spent $4 billion on repurchases of 31.1 million Apple shares through open market transactions. We also launched a new $3 billion ASR, resulting in initial delivery and retirement of 17.5 million shares. And we retired 6.3 million shares upon the completion of our ninth accelerated share repurchase program in February. All these activities contributed to a net diluted share count reduction of 66.3 million shares in the quarter. We have now completed $211.2 billion of our $250 billion capital return program, including $151 billion in share repurchases. As Tim mentioned, today we're announcing an update to our program, which we are extending by four quarters through March of 2019, and increasing in size to a total of $300 billion. Once again, given our strong confidence in Apple's future and the value we see in our stock, we are allocating the majority of the program expansion to share repurchases. Our board has increased the share repurchase authorization by $35 billion, raising it from the current $175 billion level to $210 billion. We will also continue to net share settle vesting employees' restricted stock units. LUCA: We also returned $11.7 billion to investors during the quarter. We paid $3.4 billion in dividends and equivalents and spent $4.5 billion on repurchases of 30.4 million Apple shares through open market transactions. We launched a new $3 billion ASR program, resulting in initial delivery and retirement of 15.6 million shares, and we retired 3.4 million shares upon the completion of our 10th ASR during the quarter. We have now completed $222.9 billion of our $300 billion capital return program, including $158.5 billion in share repurchases. seekingalpha.com/article/4093437-apple-aapl-q3-2017-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single5,165,228,000 shares of common stock, par value $0.00001 per share, issued and outstanding as of July 21, 2017 www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019317000009/a10-qq32017712017.htm5,134,312,000 shares of common stock were issued and outstanding as of October 20, 2017. www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019317000070/a10-k20179302017.htm30,916,000 share reduction. 5,074,013,000 shares of common stock, par value $0.00001 per share, issued and outstanding as of January 19, 2018 www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019318000007/a10-qq1201812302017.htm60,299,000 share reduction 4,915,138,000 shares of common stock, par value $0.00001 per share, issued and outstanding as of April 20, 2018 HERE 4,829,926,000 shares of common stock, par value $0.00001 per share, issued and outstanding as of July 20, 2018 here85,212,000 share reduction 4,829,926,000

"The number" ($1 trillion) is a moving target based on shares outstanding. Honestly, I don't see the obsession over this. It's just a relatively insignificant milestone IMO.
I guess the media needs something to write about.

The July 20 number, 4,829,926,000, is the most up to date. That puts $1T at $207.043 which CNBC rounded up to $207.05. Probably the best indicator of when the threshold has been crossed.
I agree this discussion is academic and the target is constantly moving, but it pays to be aware of where the line is drawn. The market will likely respond.

As we all know as the share repurchases continue the number moves as well . Would just love to see this company better than any other one cross that mark. They deserve it even if it is just for publicity purposes or historic financial annals or better yet, for a response on Jeopardy!

I almost fell off my chair laughing at this delightful paragraph: The incredible sewage pipe of analysts and supposed journalists working together to fire out a torrent of turbid slop in Apple's direction is quite incredible in the shameless nature of its purely false stink.

They deserve it even if it is just for publicity purposes or historic financial annals or better yet, for a response on Jeopardy! Yes, and it is a somewhat legit criticism that, without these buybacks, aka financial engineering, Apple wouldn't be beating the Street on EPS. Of course, the Street might be baking that in to estimates now. We're all buybackers now! But DED makes some interesting math arguments in that piece: I'm hoping that Apple continues its ~16% annual dividend increase rate. In 2 years, that would have them paying us a dollar a share (OK, 98 cents) every 90 days just to own AAPL.
But keep in mind, part of the dividend game is sustainable annual increases. IBM is #2 in yield, but they have been increasing its dividend annually for 23 years - but its increases are starting to level off. OK, AAPL isn't IBM, but the point is, Apple wants to be a "dividend aristocrat". Annual increases forever. It makes a stock much more attractive when it pays you to own it, and you get a raise every year.

So after today can we have a discussion about new products or innovation? Siri is a joke. Between all of us girls and the entire world ... it's the worst kept secret that Siri sucks. Apple - at least for the moment - has fallen well behind in dominating the home. The only people I truly know that own HomePods are employees of Apple that I know. There was just so much they could have done in hindsight...I could open a can of worms beginning with Waze! But I can't change the past. It does not worry me that they aren't making acquisitions IF they were coming up with new products or venturing whole heartedly into new areas. I'm zooming out and wondering if others are seeing things that I simply am not. (Doesn't mean I don't own the stock - just means that I keep the core position but don't bother to trade around it any longer.)

Phoebe I agree with much you said.
I find the Siri to competitor comparisons intriguing because the results are always so much better than I manage to achieve. I can't get Siri to understand much of anything. So I don't use her. At all. Would love to be able to verbally respond to texts when I'm driving...
I do know people who own the HomePod. It sounds wonderful and they love it. I don't -- because last I checked it only works with Apple Streaming. I would have multiple if I could play from iTunes on any of my Apple devices and originate phone calls. Supposedly thats coming...
The last new Apple device I bought was the iPhone X. I have purchased music and apps. I find myself waiting for the next generation all too often.
However, most products continue to improve with age and updates, albeit slowly. For instance, Apple Maps is much better.
I'm cautiously optimistic on A/R and still have hopes for Apple's car effort(s). Fortunately Apple does not appear to be imitating Google, throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.
One could argue this is the 'law of large numbers' in action. The bigger the organization gets the more challenging it is to keep the parts moving in the same direction and to sustain an extraordinary growth rate -- which requires exponential growth.
That said, AAPL remains the best investment I can find. I am and will remain, all in.

I can't dispute much of what you said - Siri has a terrible problem understanding much of what I say. I disable her now - I've given up. Yes, maps have gotten better but I still use Waze and everyone I know uses Waze. That was a miss for them. It was - for lack of a better word - stupid. I love the Company and I trust the Company but I'm frustrated that with all the money they are putting into R&D they can't get farther. My sister has the Google Pod. It understands every word I say and it's terrific. It pains me to say that. Like I said - Apple is my largest position and I keep it as my core (no pun intended, well maybe) but I used to really lever up with calls all the time and haven't done that over the last year. Let 's see what September brings.

Well living in America and listening to a lot of music that is not french, try to ask siri to play one of my favorite band "Tangerine dream" or even Beatles song.... I have to basically fake a France dude speaking in poor english in the hope that Siri understand me on the HomePod or any other devices.... When Siri will be able to mix language then it will be better for me. Try it : Ask for something like the following: Siri Play Jacques Brel, Ne me quitte pas" I'll bet you 5 bucks it will not play the right song.

So much that it can't be all on Phones/pads/macs/siri devices/services. So there must be something, or somethings, coming over the next few years. I'm kind of glad that we don't know what those things are ... because that means that the potential competitors likely also don't know what they are.
