Update on Board SustainabilityAs you all know, we are trying to locate Lovemyipad, to get her to either resume administration or pass the baton to someone else. The Board appears to have been unadministered since January 2014. It appears we have operated quite successfully without an administrator. The wrinkle is about 60 people have joined the board since it was last administered and no one who has joined after 2014 has posted. It appears the administrator needs to give them permission. At the same time, participation is slowly declining. In the event we are unable to locate Lovemyipad, we have a couple of choices. 1. We can continue as is. Whomever is already a member can participate. Presumably no new members can join or participate, though it does appear they can lurk. 2. We can restart the Board with new Administrator(s). I've previously expressed the belief we should have a primary and backups; and that offline contact information should be exchanged, at least amongst them. 2A. If we restart the board, we should decide whether to do it here (ProBoards) or somewhere else. Cdnphoto suggested Slack. Not sure what else might be out there. I remain hopeful Lovemyipad will surface. Let's give it until after Labor Day. That said, please share your thoughts as to our options... 1 or 2 and if 2, Proboards or elsewhere -- and if you know of any good elsewhere's please mention them. Thanks all.

CNN/Tech has Tim Cook sends Mark Zuckerberg scrambling. Freedom of speech means the freedom of others to say what I do not want to hear. These moves to ban 'offensive' speech are troubling -- even though I loathe Alex Jones. Indeed, the wide dissemination of foolish thought is often the best way to expose it. Sunlight is a great disinfectant. I'm uncomfortable with any large entity, whether government, church, corporation or anything else, determining what we can hear, see, or say.

Update on Board Sustainability1. We can continue as is. Whomever is already a member can participate. Presumably no new members can join or participate, though it does appear they can lurk. My first thought is, we are the (non-guilty) Remnant and we are still strong. We all have a very LONG history that began with the arduous and wearying trek through the wilderness, starting with the original AFB. We’ve crossed mountains and descended into valleys and climbed mountains and descended and climbed and descended into the deepest valleys in the night. Doubt it? Look at the charts. Remember that signature double peak back in the mid-previous decade, when we hit an astonishing $200 ($28 on today’s scale) and then depressing dropped to around $100 ($14)? Those dark days. It was said we’d never scale that mountain again. (Bwah ha) That “massive” and investment-ending double peak back then is the smallest low blip fading in the past. Dwarfed by the mighty new mountains climbed in the more modern years of the chart. Dust. I remember thinking back then, ... I just want to see my $200/share again... *sniff. Ha! My first thought was, we don’t “need” new members and we’re still rolling. There’s less chatter lately because frankly what’s to complain about? We couldn’t really be happier because we already have all of our presents. But there are still things to talk about and things pick up when they need to. I don’t want to lose the post history, but of course if this board stays open we could always just refer back to it... (just as I think we can still dig through the old AFB if we want to... “back up the truck”... was he ever RIGHT.)

I don't want to get political here. I had always thought freedom of speech meant that the government couldn't stop you. On private platforms, or in private places, that doesn't apply. Am I wrong in my interoperation of the Amendment?

Sunlight is a great disinfectant. I'm uncomfortable with any large entity, whether government, church, corporation or anything else, determining what we can hear, see, or say. It's not about saying something offensive, or stupid and having the right to do that without getting into trouble from the state or the law. This is about disinformation, and an attempt of mass indoctrination. If there is a way to propagate super-efficiently lies and falsehoods to a lot of people -- and then get a lot of people to believe them -- just because of what modern tech enables, and if this persists, then we are all screwed. This is a big problem related to modern ways of willfully and strategically conveying (mis-)information efficiently to vast numbers, which needs to be solved. A private company like Apple taking a step in this direction is encouraging, because it makes the problem more evident.

Lurker view: not keen on moving to Slack. Would rather have a fresh board with mods or stay here. Fresh board seems like the way to go on balance.

Fresh board here leaves open the possibility of maybe getting the old board data into the new one if lovemyipad reappears later. And we know how this one works...

I’m fine with 1, but would welcome increased participation as offered by the other choices I would prefer to keep the keep the board here because a. I would not have to retrain my aging brain b. I fear further loss of participants if it moves (I keep hoping that some old timers have become lurkers only due to the demands of their busy lives and will once again grace us with their insights) Nice to see AAPL return to green this AM. Upside to Slack:
* offers new interface * client for Mac and iOS (and others if needed) * plug in for additional features such as stock info
Downside: * New interface * Doesn't allow for guests. Need to register to view / participate * Threads would be very different.
If anyone is interested in seeing what it could be like, PM me and we can try it out.

I don't know anything about slack, but otherwise, I'm in agreement with audiosculpture12. Keeping the history of the board is a nice bonus, but I really don't ever refer back to older posts.

People keep forgetting that Freedom of Speech applies ONLY to government entities, not private businesses. On a side note Alex is from Austin and got his start on public access tv

Now I am wondering why the number of posts didn't increase. There must be some kind of quality check AI that only counts the good posts

I vote option 2. Stay on pro boards with a new forum. As to the new forum concerns, we did it before and we can do it again. In regard to the free speech thing, Apple et al are private platforms with their own rules that are spelled out ahead of time in the terms of use (that nobody reads).. Isn't what they are doing similar to what we do in this forum by banning posters who post political content or other "banned" topics? At least we did when we had a moderator

I vote stay here, probably best with a fresh board. This may have been addressed, but is it possible to retain the existing board as is for archive purposes, should anyone want to relive the triumphs and absurdities of our shared history as AAPL investors?
I personally have never had a need to search back dated threads and posts. I do think it would be worth moving to a new page for the ability to add new contributors, and have some chance of rectifying some kind of forum black swan event-- hacking, loss of hosting, etc.
The thing I have a hard time understanding-- how the hell can any of the prolific old-timers resist not peeking in to the the current day to day as Apple crests the 1T mark? I'm looking at you, Red Shirted Ensign!

Doing a little Googling, it appears there was a "Lovemyipad" registered at both the Mac Rumors and Ninja Traders forums. Does anyone have any connections at either of these that might procure an email address?
