9TO5Mac has What should Apple name each of its 2018 iPhone models?, which raises some issues that I find interesting. Just about all of the guesses I have read about the new phone models have accepted the "three models" scenario, 2 OLED and 1 LCD. I find this view as problematic. The missing piece for me is the lack of a Plus LCD model. While I could not resist the X, Fabulous Spouse took a lesser upgrade to the 8 Plus, which she loves. And as the population ages, I see the move to larger screens increasing. Unless Apple intends to lower the price of the predicted two new OLED models, regular and Plus, the lack of an LCD Plus model could leave a hole in the lineup for those who want a larger screen but are not willing to pay the price of the larger OLED model, or even the smaller one. One alternative would be to have only a Plus size LCD model, regardless of the name, but I wonder whether that would drive some price-conscious customers to the successor to the SE, if that turns out to exist. As far as the new names go, I do agree with the article that a likely scenario is the dropping of numbers, in which case I could see something like iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Plus for the OLED models, and just iPhone for the LCD one. Thoughts?

And yet another author swings and misses at Apple Pay: Apple: Lowering ExpectationsSo many financial writers and analysts fail to understand Apple/AAPL that it brings to mind a common question from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Who are those guys? Who are those guys? However, in this case, it's a question being asked for the completely opposite reason.

I read the article (and also the comments - saw your response there :-) The author's detailed understanding and emphasis on technology is astounding. NOT. There's not a SINGLE WORD about TECHNOLOGY in what he wrote. That boggles the mind. He has *no idea* what he's talking about. He completely ignores Apple's key advantages: t e c h n o l o g y. It's the integrated custom hardware and software, and ecosystem, stupid! Is there any mention in what he wrote of a little thing called AUTHENTICATION...? (spoiler: no) Why is authentication important? If he doesn't even know to ask that question, he has no basis for anything that he's writing. Apple provides a seamless and secure system of authentication with all of it's devices. iPhones starting with TouchID going back years; FaceID in the X; linked authentication from an Apple Watch to an iPhone. Fast, secure, seamless authentication across a broad range of devices, with hundreds of millions of users, is kind of: important. But this guy has no idea. (I don't even know where to start, but I guess that's enough for now). He says Amazon and Walmart are much better prepared to take over this market; and will, just because, they're Amazon and Walmart. Ha. Walmart in particular; what are their technical chops compared to Apple? (answer: none)
