Not too bad a retreat after last week's big gain. Momentum should start building soon in anticipation of the new iPhone unveilings. Speaking of anticipation, Apple's First Store in Kyoto Japan Opened Today with a queue of Customers Stretching 10 City Blocks. I remain amazed that after all these years Apple Store openings are still such exciting events wherever they appear, worldwide. Almost as exciting, Horace Dediu takes a bank shot at Apple’s holiday quarter. The underlying thesis is that seeds planted a few months ago are about to start blooming. In anticipation of that event, appleinsider has Apple trade-in guide: Where to get the most money for your used iPhone, iPad, Watch or Mac. I am still interested in hearing thoughts about what the names of the new iPhones might be. Along the same lines, iPad Pro cover leak shows opening for rumored new Smart Connector location. The end of summer is always a bit sad for those of us in cold weather climes, notwithstanding the delights of Fall here in New England, but the prospect of a new cycle of Apple products certainly provides an effective antidote. Party on, Garth!

I have always liked Horace Dediu‘s analysis. His deep dive into the numbers and correlations between them is fascinating. Thanks foe for the link.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. Board SustainabilityWe still haven't located Lovemyipad. Hopefully she will surface as that's the path of least resistance. If you have even the remotest of leads on her, please follow up. In the event we restart the board (here on ProBoards) we need volunteers to assist with - Setting up the new Board
- Administering the new Board
- Assisting board members with the transition
None of this should require a tremendous amount of effort. Please PM me. AFB's 1T to ∞ CelebrationA couple of us are getting together the week of October 8 in North Conway, New Hampshire. With any luck the foliage will be at its peak. Please join us. PM me for details and suggestions on travel.

Wish I could join you. I was born in Manchester New Hampshire. However, I only lived there two weeks before my father was shipped off to Korea in 1951.

If you restart the board, will we get an email alerting us to the procedure to register for the new board?

As the consensus is to stay on ProBoards, it should be a relatively painless move. You will be able to access the site the way you do now, you will merely point to a different board. To my knowledge, the only mechanism on ProBoards to communicate with members is PM (Messages). This functionality is a little awkward for mass messages, so our primary means of notification will be through the placement of conspicuous notices and directions on the Daily and Week Ending threads. We will do so at least a week in advance. We don't want to leave any members behind. Still looking for volunteer(s) to assist other members with the transition. This would potentially include: - monitoring the existing Board for any stragglers
- comparing new and old member lists and following up with PM's to anyone who hasn't made the move
- herding cats
When you register on the new Board please use the screen name you used here so we can easily identify who has and has not made the transition. Also, Please ensure that you are not blocking PM's from ProBoards. That is our only means of communicating directly with you. Worse case scenario, anyone who finds themselves lost can PM me through the this Board. Hopefully, Lovemyipad returns... eliminating any necessity to move.

The end of summer is always a bit sad for those of us in cold weather climes, notwithstanding the delights of Fall here in New England... We're not quite there yet, right? Our temps just dropped a bit after the extended heat wave, quickly going to the "don't leave the windows open all night or the house gets too cold" range. Any yard related stuff, whether sprinklers/drip, staining the deck, recoating the driveway, filling in the bare patches of grass... All of them seem at odds with having snow on the ground close to 6 months of the year, with as much as 6 feet of compacted snow. Time to fix the couple of roof issues and/or put up heat wire. At the same time, with school starting here and in locations nearby, the tourist level ramps down significantly. Suddenly the beaches are much less busy, and the trails too. There's 2-3 months now where it's a little crisper in the morning, but it's still pretty ideal, especially if we get a little rain to knock down the dust on the trails. And it's still trail building time. On Friday I helped a few friends make some temporary bridges out of a log, using an Alaskan Chainsaw Mill to make slabs 5" thick, 20" wide, and 9.5' long. They looked awesome! Today we're having a volunteer appreciation ride for those that helped with a trail we worked on over the last 2 years. And we'll have a celebrity guest, Levi Leipheimer, joining us. This is the time of year to get things done before winter sets in. But we have some time still to enjoy the outdoors too, including being able to walk the kids to school.
