Regarding the large number of people opting for the larger & more expensive iPhones, I think Apple did their homework. By offering three models, they set up the Low model for those who were price sensitive. They set up the top model for those that want the most out of iPhone. The middle model was the sacrificial lamb, the one that wouldn't get much traction. By providing the comparison between the models, people will tend to the higher model in this case.

Just upgraded to Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. So far, so good. Running in 'dark mode'.

On comparing the top 2 models, it's more of a size thing. But Apple has done a good job over the years of making it a reasonable step along the different models, such that many may choose to step up for just a little more. I remember this being the case with the iPods, where for only $50 more.... My parents were just visiting, and up came the conversation about new iPhones. My mom has an iPhone 7, and wanted to know the sizes and decide which new one to get, so we pulled out the tape measure. Basically, the new X s Max is the same size as my wife's 8 Plus, and the X s and X r are just a little smaller and bigger than the iPhone 7. Personally, I find the 8 Plus to be too big for what I want, but great to look at. Just like a laptop, you're looking at portability vs functionality of the larger screen size. If putting it in a purse, it doesn't matter much. It turns out the 8 Plus does fit fine in my jeans pocket, and even fits into the change pocket on a 5 pocket design, though maybe not all the way. But, it is too large for the cup holder in our Sienna minivan, so plugging it in on a long car trip is a pain. To me it's interesting that the S and S Max are so similar, and that the R is very similar too. To me, a 1/3 cost jump seems like a lot for what you get, going from an R to a S. But the tricky thing there is that you just sold the R as the "low cost model". The saying "you could put me in the poor house with all the money you are saving" comes to mind. I have a feeling Apple doesn't much care which of the S's people get, as far as base profit margin. But like the other story, they do make a lot off of memory upselling, so they'd be happy if people bumped up that line. Even though we've yet to break a screen or completely kill an iPhone, I still have a fear of breaking an expensive new trinket. As such, I'll likely go with the R, and consider that $250 saved as a down payment on a new one if it has too short of a life. The kids are starting to get old enough that we might start upgrading annually just to hand down ones. But for now, they are loving my wife's old 5S, even with a few screen backlight imperfections from multiple falls while in a case. And once it gets a battery upgrade, it will be good to go, especially with one of those low cost minimal phone plans out there. We'll have to lock it down, but then we'll have a way to communicate, or see the GPS location.

From: forums.macrumors.com/threads/is-the-mobile-reception-on-the-xs-max-even-worse-than-iphone-x.2140854/page-26"an hour on the phone with Apple, we fixed the issue with WiFi/Cellular on iPhone Xs Max. You have to restore with a computer without a backup. I know its crazy to think we still have to do this, but it worked and fixed both WiFi and Cellular!" "Complete restore with iTunes and as New device unfortunately. It’s literally night and day now. Blazing speeds." Then, no restoring from backup. It looks like an iOS 12.0.1 may fix some user’s Cellular and Wifi issues; if the new installer doesn’t restore whatever setting(s) from the user’s iPhone’s back-up causing the issues.

While I'm sure the XR will outsell the Max by a substantial amount one still has to wonder what this does to ASP's for the iPhone Cheers to the longs .... EDIT: In typing those names I just realized, for the first time how silly they are! Oh well ...it won't keep anyone from buying but still Apple could use a little help in the name dept ... at least it is better than 2019 when the "ULTRA MAX" comes to a store near you .... ouch.

Just upgraded to Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. So far, so good. Running in 'dark mode'. Any compelling reasons to upgrade? Well why 2014 Mac seems to be running a bit faster. I like dark mode but switched back to light mode because some web sites didn't look good in dark. I haven't done anything but web browsing today. Some people like to wait on upgrades. I prefer to upgrade quickly.
