I saw the original OP write-up on reddit about this. Quite fascinating IMO. Thanks as always S84 for your daily efforts. Cheers to a good earnings report this afternoon.

Edit: Yesterdays Mav's link to his post is far more informative. apple.news/AZMr0nq8kSJuGw3b2Eh-zbgThe notes I made this AM, after reading over at PED: If a $96B revenue guide lands within the guidance range provided, wow, that'll be great. A few guesses are $98., $99., and even $101. FYQ4 result to hit or exceed: $62B and $2.80 Guidance FQ1/18: A $94.3B - $96 guide. Implies better than $5.04 earnings, if margin range given is comparable.

$222.22. That's a lot of 2's. Kinda like 3333333, my only bug number I remember, though likewise just as unmemorable. Incidentally, the first time AAPL closed this high was back on 8-29-18 at $222.98. So the stock is where it was, just over 2 months ago. A bit of a retrace, but in comparison to the likes of AMZN, who topped out at $1T right about then and who is down about 20%, "That ain't half bad". It's fun to look at PED's spreadsheet of estimates. Independents are back to having a little higher expectations than the paid folks, which I still guess at being aiming for exactness vs having a margin of error, or giving some room for whispering. www.ped30.com/2018/11/01/apple-earnings-smackdown-q4-2018/ Let's see what Apple pulls out of it's hat...

Still don’t see a huge problem then - their range lies around (not completely below) the “expected”.
So- probably one of those inexplicable early reactions to the numbers. Wait tight for the call.

So for the moment after hours, investors don’t care about Apple making a lot more money - only about the absolute number of units sold (which is only slightly below expectations aka “missed” which as we know from the past is a stupid number)
This has happened many times before, when some metric “misses” anal-yst guesses; and totally out of context and reality, the immediate reaction is just as dumb as the guesses that caused it.

This is just stupid (and so: ignore it; just BTFD if it lasts) Record breaking quarter is exactly that.
But maybe tomorrow or next week they’re going out of business.
Or will be suddenly be usurped by Samesung.
Or Android.

Judging from the market’s wise reaction, what a god-awful quarter. This company just can’t get it right. Needed to 10% more iPhone units at half the ASP and then of course it would all be great ... annnnd and what??!? :-)
(Sarcasm! :-)
