I'm not always on the same page with Gene, but I think that he hits one key observation in this article, per the following:
"Instead what seems to be happening with Apple is that its customers are starting to wait longer to trade in their iPhones for new ones, Munster said. But they are and will continue upgrading their devices on a regular basis."
Along with that, my guess is that many more "switchers" trade up to an iPhone than go in the the opposite direction. This, of course is the fuel behind Apple's seemingly ever-increasing base, the key to its services growth.
It's going to be a long wait until the February earnings report, featuring the new reporting structure. And I am sure that there will be numerous doubting analysts who will attempt to reverse engineer the numbers in order to determine the actual iPhone sales, but over time the overall financial results will become the focus.

I am starting to think that the 145 was the low for the quarter. The turnaround to 157 is impressive since it was fast and we are now holding above 155.
Monday is a key day.
If I read the charts and OI right, we could make a bold move to 185 by middle of Janauary before we see profit taking before ER. If we drop to 165 then we would get that 30 day delay of revisiting the lows. Except it would be a very bullish low.
What is hard to tell is when we will visit the 200 MA again.
Invest in Apple and give yourself an early retirement.
