On the topic of folding phones. Anybody thinking like me? Flexible screen development should be focused on creating more lightweight and slightly flexible phones that are more durable and comfortable to carry. This objective to create a fold-up tablet with the false premise that it will be at home in your pocket seems a bit unrealistic. Samsung's entry; three screens, basically two cellphones hinged together, can you imagine the bulk and weight?

That seems like a far more likely Apple application of this technology. In fact didn’t they use a flexible screen in the X that wrapped at one edge to enable a smaller bezel? For Apple it’s as much about what you don’t see rather than the Samsung ‘I’ve got six cameras’ approach.

At one time I was enamored with the idea of an iPad mini with two screens hinged in the middle. Held vertically, it would feel and act like a book. Horizontally, it could be configured so one screen was a keyboard and the other a screen. I cannot give a reason why this would be better than what we have now, but I still find the idea appealing. I am sure that someone must have made this by now, but I seldom look at devices that are not from Apple.

I am sure that someone must have made this by now, but I seldom look at devices that are not from Apple. I guess I see this as much more applicable to a phone, since it's advantageous to have something with a small footprint that can fit in a pocket. My wife has an 8+, and it is much bigger than my 5S. Even though I'd be happy to have more screen on my old iPhone, I like it's size, especially as to fitting in a pocket. But the 8+, it's big. It turns out that it fits fine in my front jeans pockets, but that women's jeans often have funky smaller pockets, and so it doesn't fit in most of hers. Thus it goes in the rear pocket, where it hangs out and could get bent easier IMO. We did the drop test, maybe 8-10' into 8-10' of snow at the ski resort. My wife didn't even realize she had dropped it. My kids helped point it out to the liftie when they were searching for something. And then back a few chairs from them I recognized it, since there aren't too many large red iPhones. Fun times at the ski resort with the family and sister with her kids. Volume was pretty low this week, along with all 10 days since the dividend. But up $2.50 in 4 trading days makes for a nice week. Thanks AAPL!
