Pleasantly surprised to see AAPL up while the market is down.

Just a quick post to air some grievances about last week's "Apple slashes prices in China" news stories. I noticed that once again the FUD spreading machines were in full operation. Most of the articles I read tied the price drops to Apple's falling sales in China, suggesting that their sales woes continue in China. However, there were a handful of articles that correctly attributed the price drops to the reduction of VAT taxes. Furthermore these articles also correctly stated that other luxury retailers were doing the same thing. Funny how that fact was absent in the FUD articles.
I've been an Apple investor for about a decade now. You would think I'd be immune to the FUD storm, but for whatever reason I was particularly annoyed by this last round of stories that hit the web last Friday.
End Rant.
Edit: Yay my 100th post! (I'm mostly a lurker)

Looking forward to getting one. Any word on when it will be available? I don't recall it being mentioned in the presentation.

no details beyond 'coming this summer': www.apple.com/apple-card/ - you can click 'notify me' in upper right corner, i assume they'll just email close to release
hopefully it won't be 'coming this summer' like airpower did, lol

A little off-topic, but this article off of Firefox's recommended list was interesting. (for going with degrees of separation, it is the Disney family, and Disney bought/merged with Pixar, which SJ used to run....so it's on-topic) What It’s Like to Grow Up With More Money Than You’ll Ever Spend, with Abigail Disney. (link fixed) (some of these things, basically how to keep your family level-headed, is what I would love to ask many with an order or two of magnitude more than we have. Unfortunately, it's the people that don't keep things in check that you normally hear about, both in our town and elsewhere. Good to hear that Abigail has managed, even if it was flying solo in a 737 that was needed to fully trigger it)

Excellent reading.

Thanks for calling our attention to the article, I *really* enjoyed what she had to say. Excellent reading. There are several stories on that site that are interesting, especially in the Living with Money section. It's interesting to get a little insight into some of these situations. We also see it in our town, such as a few trust-fund families (all related), and how they each spend their mid-6 figure annual sum (sometimes small towns know too much!). While some do good things with their free time, and others buy some expensive toys ($150k for a wakeboard boat, $10k for a record player needle), some still end up with infidelity and divorce. I guess it's part of why I enjoy watching Billions, getting some insight into things I don't normally see, but also am not too many steps from (several Dads of friends of our kids in various finance roles, from Hedge Fund managers or owners, Private Equity, Wealth Management, Financial Advisors). While the kids are generally not at the same schools now, we run into them at the soccer fields, the ski slopes, or the beach. Anyways, there were a few interesting articles there, with a little more candor than the Yahoo Finance ones. Fun to read, as AAPL continues it's ascent and we enter that quiet but potentially rumor filled time before earnings and a likely increase in the dividend.
