I read on the T-Mobile web page this morning that they are now asking for people with unlocked smart phones to take advantage of their "unlimited" and cheap data plans. My wife and I have been on T-Mobile with our factory unlocked iPhones for more than a year. We have a family plan with 4 phones for $150 per month. We could probably get a better deal now. I'll have to look into that.
T-Mobile does have a point. They are refarming their frequencies to provide something like 3G or 4G in more and more areas. One of the advantages of being unlocked and jailbroken is that you can get around the restrictions in Apple's app store that were put in place to appease carriers. For instance, AT&T sells call blocking by phone number for $4.95 per month (up to 30 numbers), hence you won't find a real call blocking app in Apple's app store. I remain incredulous that Apple caved to this. Once jailbroken, you can install iBlacklist from Cydia on your iPhone for a one time purchase price of $12.95.
What do you think? T-Mobile may have a niche here without officially carrying the iPhone. Do you think they'll even try for the ability to offer the iPhone officially?

Certainly, some renegades will appreciate using T-Mobile. Call those the early adopters.
According to enhanced adopter theory, there's a gap between early adopters and early majority. So, in terms of awareness and trust, early majority will be watching the early adopters.

I'm actually going to try T-Mobile pre-paid when my T contract expires on 11/13. Hopefully they will be rolling out those HSPA+ towers in my area soon.
