Good morning all
We're back from an overseas vacation for nearly 3 weeks. It was great to see AAPL up a bit, especially over the last week.
OTOH, it was pretty disappointing to look at the site as a guest and see the discussion and discourse degrade here. We can do better, and we'll have to (if) we want longtime contributors to stick around.
This is a communal place. While I have been granted the keys to the kingdom, I don't want to dictate what can or can't happen here. It's not just my sandbox, but rather all of ours. In the past we have made it fine for years with only using self-moderation, following the general principles of staying on topic, not attacking others (posters here or otherwise), and generally staying respectful. If there is some reason we should stray from these guidelines passed down through past moderators of the site, we can change this. But if only a few posters can't handle the guidelines for the daily thread, they should find another forum to frequent.
Self-moderation is still the goal. We have multiple moderators present and past who are taking breaks due various reasons. Personally, I don't want to get more hands on, but I will start banning posters or moving posts into black holes if that is the only thing that can keep this board alive. That shouldn't be needed. But take a look at what got posted over the past couple weeks. We can do better than this.
OTOH, just after leaving my neighbor had a massive stroke and fell down the stairs, passing a few days later. We are the executors of one of his trusts, so are a bit busy at the moment. A word to the wise: If you create a trust, which you should (though financial accounts can usually skip probate, but remember to update the beneficiaries), be sure to move all assets into it so there aren't additional hassles like a Heggstad Petition.
Still dealing with jet lag, but great to see the Paris Apple stores very busy. AAPL was down half a percent in premarket a few hours ago, but is down just a fraction now. It would be nice to see AAPL's leg up continue.
And it would be nice to see this board pull together. As I put in my signature, "We have the choice to build this board up, or tear it down. Make the right choice, or don't post here."

4aapl... welcome back. missed you, believe it or not ... your presence generally had a calming, moderating (pun intended) effect on the board, despite a couple judgment calls i didn't agree with... i respect that
...
translation: 15% tariff on iPhones (once-delayed thanks to tim cook talking some sense into trump) is still on the table to commence in 2 months... dec 15th
glad to see aapl turn green though
cheers to the longs!
...
ming-chi kuo on iphone se2... since he's growing in specificity, there's probably fire where there's smoke... i think it's a positive for apple!

One more reminder. Ignore those who you just can't stand, and don't reply to them. While you can just skip reading their message, the site does have an ignore feature. Set it up and use it.
FWIW, that is a downside of being a moderator, as the site won't let us ignore anyone. Luckily, even though some may be more consistent in their straying from the AAPL topic, I still find value in every poster, and try to forget or ignore the inconsistencies.
Good luck out there all.

Thanks 4aapl ! I totally agree with your sentiments. The nasty messages here bother me.
Everyone should be able to talk about the economy, tariffs, and the state of politics without demeaning any individual in politics or on this board.

K after studying the charts a little more, I think 228 was the high and we wont see it again for a few years. The damage from today will not be repaired anytime soon so we can forget ATH.The SPY and QQQ are in sever bearish trajectory. Ironically we look similar to last year at this time but a week early. Economic indicators are significantly worse now then last year.. I think talks may produce some results but not a real deal. The market will however initially react negatively without a deal, but more future talks will get us back up. It is fun to watch it all play out. it's been fun indeed... perfect 'negative prediction' bingo!
spongie, hope you read this... need an update on your thoughts, since you're like a lucky charm of my trading strategy ....any chance you're buying puts here?

Thanks hledgard Just to reiterate the reminder, since I was emailed about this post, we're still only having AAPL related political talk here (in the daily thread). Even that has been a rough point here lately, often starting the escalations. Going into the political cycle, it's only going to get tougher over the coming year, as it has for all Presidential cycles for the past decades. I have seen this pull apart message boards. Let's not become another statistic. The other choice, if it comes to that, is to not allow any political discussion of any kind on the daily thread. I'd rather not go there, since as we've discussed for months there are AAPL related political discussions. But if it comes to banning any political talk of any kind from the daily thread, all to save the board, then I will. "We have the choice to build this board up, or tear it down. Make the right choice, or don't post here."

Make the right choice, or don't post here." Truthfully, since we’re faced with a clear threat of ruining the board, I’d be in support of a heavier hand from moderators. Setting a few clear rules which can get you banned or suspended may be the best way to repair the integrity of this board - particularly with how testy the next year will be. And to give context so members don’t think I’m pro trump, I’m an extreme liberal, but never attack the conservatives here. The worst I’ve done is respectfully PM JD to try and understand the motivations of someone who is clearly intelligent, but aligns with things which make no sense to me. As much as we may hate our political and ideological opponents, there are other forums for having that battle - this forum should be just about sharing and discussing the facts, without the emotions and heated spin. 2¢ from a decade+ member who cares.

I thought she got really bad treatment from Alta Bates here in SF. In Texas my cousin had a similar stroke and recovered fully-after 8 years of rehab. The brain is flexible. Treatment is in its infancy for this condition and it is costly. Speaking of Apple stores I noticed in Palm Desert last year before I moved a real down turn in people. Plus most of the people there were there for getting their iPhone fixed or looked at. Maybe that was the difference between the growing iPhone sales and the stagnant number or constant number however you want to look at it. Really like the wireless earbuds, best product (for me) in a long time. Like the original phone, the 4s and the X, you can keep the rest. Still think the Note is better with the pen. i use the iPad to read and like the pen for everything on it. Steve was wrong on that one.

duckpins, I’ve been meaning to ask you about the Zaky thing since you introduced yourself. Would you care to talk more about your experience, as painful as it was? For the education of the board. I recall how Zaky made two pinpoint-accurate calls about when AAPL inflected, but I never jumped in on his fund. Looking back at his commentary, it’s like he lost all his confidence when he started handling other people’s money. What was your read on that? Have you heard from him since? Edit to ping duckpins
