No surprise, iOS 6 has been adopted by an estimated 15% of iOS users in the first 24 hrs. of availability. So we're talking about at least 60 million users of iOS 6 in the first day. Of course we're going to hear complaints and see examples of glitches in maps and other features. While it is a temporary PR hit of sorts, that is also valuable feedback for Apple.
The loud reaction we're seeing to Maps is another example of the disconnect between the punditry and tech savvy consumers who comment on blogs/post on Twitter/set up Tumblr blogs, etc. Most of these folks poo-pooed the iP5 as a "minor" or "evolutionary" upgrade. Yet average consumers globally are downloading iOS 6 and lining up for iP5 in record-breaking numbers.
There was no way Apple was going to match Google's maps immediately. We'll never know for certain, but it doesn't sound like there was any practical way for Apple to continue the existing maps agreement with Google. What's happening is not ideal, but it was unavoidable.
Does the average consumer care about the behind-the-scenes Apple/Google wrangling? No. Does the average consumer care enough about the map glitches to NOT upgrade or buy? No. It's much ado about (almost) nothing all over again. Just as we still hear the occasional mumbling about antenna-gate, we're going to hear about map-gate for months to come. I don't think it will affect iPhone sales or AAPL.

I am happy with maps in my city USA. Used it most of the day running errands around town. Purposely ignored her suggested routes and she responded wonderfully rerouting me constantly. Works just as good as Mr Garmin. iPhone 4s seems a little snappier too. Thinking of selling it on ebay and undercut all the buy it now pricing folks just to make someone happy. Why not? We both deserve the best.

Does anyone have Passbook running correctly? I was getting the "cannot connect to iTunes store " error until I added Target. Now there is no link to Passbook enabled apps in the App Store. I'm frustrated with this.

I'm frustrated with this. I was getting the same error message yesterday. I haven't added any Passbook apps yet, as only four are currently listed here in the UK and none are useful to me.

I'm frustrated with this. There is a bug or something with Passbook for the time being, although there is not much to see only about a dozen companies so far. I was getting the same error, what you need to do is go to your date settings change it manual and set the year to 2013. Go back to Passbook and it will connect. Afterwards you can set the date back to 2012 and it will work thereafter.

I just downloaded the iOS6 and I love the new maps app much better than the old Google Maps app.

I sold my iPhone 4S to them this week for $330. They send you the packing materials and pay for shipping both ways. Completely hassle-free. www.apple.com/recycling

Not to spread FUD, but get ready for Wifi-gate. I personally experienced slow/connectivity issues with Wifi on my iPhone 5, so I joined an Apple discussion forum where a few others had the same problem. That forum has now grown to over 300 posts and more threads are popping up. Many are bringing phones to Apple stores, which are starting to be replaced. It's looking like it may be a hardware issue.
I called AppleCare yesterday and they acknowledged they are aware of the problem and that Apple engineers are now working on it.
I was hoping Apple would address this quickly, but I just noticed it has started to hit the blog sites.

Could be firmware.
Curious. What're the conditions?

Could be firmware. Curious. What're the conditions? Phones can't connect or get slow data (~.5 Mbps) from Wifi networks using WPA2 (AES) security. That's the current best and preferred security method for networks. With various tricks (changing or removing security), some are able to get speeds back up, but some can't regardless what they try. The reason some are thinking its hardware-based is because they got two phones and one has the issue while the other works fine. Most are seeing the problem resolved after exchanging the phone also.

My iPod touch has slowed considerably since upgrading to IOS6. This would lead me to believe the issue is not hardware related. Not to spread FUD, but get ready for Wifi-gate. My iPod touch has slowed considerably since upgrading to IOS6. This would lead me to believe the issue is not hardware related. From Apple's discussion forums, there seem to be a few different issues going on. iOS 6 could be part of the problem, but some users have compared speeds on their iPods, iPads, and old iPhones on iOS 6 and only experience the problem on their iPhone 5.

iPad 3 on iOS 6 feels faster on WiFi w/WPA2. As usual, it's YMMV.

Looking at the satellite images in Apple Maps, I'm quite surprised at how recent some of the data is. Flying over the Olympic Stadium in East London, the preparations within the stadium for the opening ceremony can be clearly seen.
