...I gave iOS 6 turn-by-turn a try and immediately went back to Waze. Apple's turn-by-turn just feels too plain for me having used Waze for a long while. I haven't used Waze for some time. Does it have audible turn-by-turn directions? So far in my very limited testing, Apple Maps is excellent for navigation. The audible instructions are better than my dedicated GPS device. The screen turns off until you approach the next turn. You can ask Siri for an ETA. So far I'm very happy with it. Obviously YMMV. I know it's lousy if you're having problems with Maps, but I'm just wondering what percentage of iOS 6 users are really unhappy with the change. Millions of folks in China are enjoying huge improvements, but very few blogs/reports/tweets on that. Instead you hear about major problems in Japan and Finland. Whatever.

-1000. This stuff is getting silly. Sorry. Your kids approval does not equal a maps solution. I have the app, and it is not even in the same category. Let's agree to disagree but you will at least have to admit that ANY OF THESE are better than what TC put out. I am infuriated by it all. I understand the logic - and agree - but the execution was wrong - in particular it's timing - again, my opinion. Its similar to what Steve Jobs did with antennagate. There wasn't much validity in the negative press, but he responded just to show that Apple wants to please even the loudest whiners. The only thing I didn't like about TC's statement is he went into too much detail about the other alternatives.

Can we PLEASE create a separate thread for this tiresome Maps discussion. IMO it's pretty simple - either it has the features you like or it doesn't, then download a map app that works for you! I personally like maps as is, b/c it has features I missed on Google Maps.

I can't even get Waze to draw the damn map in time as I am driving. Most of the time, I am apparently driving in an open field.

When iPhone is plugged into my car charger the iMap turn by turn voice directions are mute. When I have my bluetooth body area hearing aid streamer on, the voice directions are mute also and does not stream. Using iMaps without charger drains the battery significantly on my 4s and the device gets very warm. So if you are traveling far without charge good luck. Then also when using iMaps, texts do not come through real time. On At&T. Haven't tested incoming calls yet. Other than those I like maps. works as well as others for me and sat views are more recent. We've all have had enough of this but wanted to post my experiences.

I've used Apple maps on my 4S while plugged into my car charger too, and my voice directions come through fine on the phone's speaker. Perhaps your car charger is making the phone think it's plugged into an audio system and so it's redirecting the audio? What happens if you plug into a generic car cigarette DC adaptor?

Possibly, my charger is one designed to play pandora sync'ed with the car radio and speakers but its not connected for that while charging only. I'll play around with it and Thanks for the reply. I am looking for accessories designed to sit the phone on the dash, charge and use all iPhone functions.

Re Apple Maps and turn by turn Directions: Just got mine to work! Best thing ever! I was using an old 1st Gen iPhone as my music player conected via usb into Kenwood unit with Bluetooth. My 4S (OS 6.1) was paired over Bluetooth, Siri and phone coversations would use cars audio system but not map directions. My solution was to connect my 4S directly to the Kenwood via USB and play music thru the cars system using the Music App on the 4s. Gave Siri some directions and yes indeed music faded out and directions were relayed over the cars speakers and once she was done music faded back in!

(Kia Optima SX's) Tammy has a 4S and I have a 5. They are synced to both cars and operate easily via Bluetooth. The maps lowers the music to tell you about an upcoming turn/road/distance etc.... In our are the maps work great. The only time it did not was when I traveled on a new road that had just been completed. It did start back after it guessed I had just driven through the corn field. I really like being able to play music without having to connect a cable. It beeps to let you know you have a text, but will not read it to you. MSFT system and the iphone is not on the compatibility list. What a surprise?
