Both are nice spreads. But there are pretty wide ranges between bid and ask with these LEAP spreads; mark (small m) isn't all that accurate. At mark price: 2.45 1.90 - 3.00 Jan 14 980-1000 max return 716% @ ~1005 3.23 2.15 - 3.60 Jan 14 930-950 max return 519% @ ~955 38% better return for 32% less money. Probably could get the 930-950 for a bit cheaper, but you get the point. Obviously, if we close at 975 in Jan 14, mine is dead. But this is rollover mad money, not my entire net worth. ;D $1000 in 16 months? OK JD, are you just messin with me? before you said 2015 990/1000. The 2014 990/1000 should be able to be had for the 2.40 you talked about. I think you could get the 940/950's for 2.60-70. Now I get the percentage ROI, but dang, you are paying .20-.30c for $50. I had not even looked that far out, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Will buy a block of them tomorrow. (Jan 14 - 940/950) TY ¿Que? Just filled a Jan 14 980/1000 at a good price (aka, a Lovemyipad Stink Bid™) LEAP spreads have been good to me. I resolve to do more of them. A Jan 15 980/1000 might be a great spread, but the bid-ask differentials are ludicrous right now: Mark: 3.35 Bid: .90 Ask: 5.80 At 3.35 mark, it's a nearly 500% return, (if you could buy anywhere near that), betting AAPL gets to 1000 (~43% gain ) in 27 months, the first full quarter iPhone 6 has shipped into. Anyway, main points are 1) Never pay ask; 2) LEAP spreads are bueno; 3) It's never to soon to open them. BTW, just closed out some JAN 13 560/600 LEAPs I've held for over a year for a nice ~800% gain (c/b 4.32). Note to self: Do not procrastinate on LEAPS.

Apple has issued a statement regarding maps on iOS:
"Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service," said spokeswoman Trudy Miller. "We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover, turn by turn navigation, and Siri integration. We launched this new map service knowing it is a major initiative and that we are just getting started with it. Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better."
Later in his piece, AllThingsD writer John Paczkowski says the developer team assigned to the Maps app is "under lockdown" working to fix the app.

Mike that was me that was trying to buy the 2015 990 - 1000 bcs. I bid .20c to .25c. Ask was from $4 to $2 to $1. We didn't make a deal today. LOL, good luck with that. If you can get that for .20, I'll take 2000 contracts right now!

If you can get that for .20, I'll take 2000 contracts right now! I'm aware of the numbers. I was only trying, and I'm aware of the likely hood of getting them for that price. It's called a stink bid for a reason....and that one was shamelessly very very stinky on purpose. I still like the spread, but only for the right price...and that price is not what any of the MM's ask prices were today ($4, $2, $1.25). If he wants to ask ridiculous prices, I'm going to offer equally ridiculous prices. We may, or may not, find a price that works. But, I am not going to pay a price that is not acceptable to me. We'll see what happens when it happens...all I can do is keep trying bids.

Crap.
iPhone 5 launches are getting good coverage on global news networks, but nearly every report is also bringing up the negative news on maps in the same breath.

Ensign, they're pre-return lines. Make no mistake, Apple deserves full blame for blunders or falling short. But also give credit where due. Navigation is really slick. Between Maps and Death Grip, I say Death Grip was more worrisome.

Crap. iPhone 5 launches are getting good coverage on global news networks, but nearly every report is also bringing up the negative news on maps in the same breath. Yeah, and the wording in many is highly misleading. I've read 5 reports today, that mass transit directions are "not supported" or absent, rather than the fact that they chose to supply hooks for local 3rd party apps. The hook support solve the problem that some transit systems are private and want to monetize their data rather than give it to google or others for free. Another problem is that there are no clear global standards for this kind of data. It sucks that the media will likely spin this into another 'antenna-gate'. I'm hoping that 7-8 million units by the end of this quarter will be enough to offset this this.

The nice thing about Apple, when things aren't quite right-- people trust them to fix it. This seems less serious than the faux-seriousness of antennagate, imo. It will be fixed, probably by multiple solutions-- Better Apple Maps and a Google app, in a reasonable time frame. Apple has a lot of good will, relative to the competition. It will be okay.

Nice work ifixit, they already have a live tear down underway from a technician who flew to Australia to do it.

Ensign, they're pre-return lines. Are you sure, Mav? I thought "pre-return lines" were exclusive to Motorola tablet launches.

Oh right...that /sarcasm tag. I think that next week initial sales checkpoint still stands. Plenty of time to cancel pre-orders over Maps and any other issues.

Interesting statistic regarding tomorrow . . . "This Friday is Quadruple Witching Day: In the last 12 years, the S&P 500 has closed up +75% of the time."
Fyi, 'Quadruple Witching days' are days on which contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options and single stock futures all expire.

Had an order fill today for $9.0 ($900), 456% ROI. Would like to try to pick up a few more tomorrow sub $9 before the iphone5 numbers get released, but torn with initiating positions near an ATH.

How to add Google Maps (via Safari shortcut) to your iOS 6 home screen: tinyurl.com/d6u3bmg or screenshots of 6 steps tinyurl.com/9ql7x8u1 Open Safari and go to maps.google.com. 2 At the bottom of your screen, [touch] the Export button -- the curved arrow in the middle of the menu bar. 3 Touch Add to Home Screen. 4 Touch the Add button on the top-right corner of your screen. This will create a Safari shortcut to Google Maps on your home screen. You can, of course, move shortcut anywhere you want on your home screen by touching and holding the icon until all the app icons appear to "wiggle." Then drag the icons in whatever order you desire.

Color me impressed!
Yesterday, immediately after updating to IOS 6, i called up my home address in the new map application. The location displayed was at the other end of the block. I remember chuckling and reminding myself not to have the next woman I date meet me at my house if she has an iPhone. That incorrect location is a half-way house for mentally challenged people. *Awkward*
Today, about 14 hours later, the map data now places a pin on my building. It is just one data point, but it makes me more optimistic about the pace of improvement. This may not weigh on the stock for as long as I thought.

Would like to try to pick up a few more tomorrow sub $9 before the iphone5 numbers get released, but torn with initiating positions near an ATH. One thing I like about the wider spreads is, what happens, say, if AAPL closes at 970 at expiry (assume ~975 B/E)? You lose, right? Not if you have the equity or margin for exercising the long leg (this is reason alone to have a margin-enabled account). So you get exercised the shares at 950, a $20 per share profit to make up for that "loss" on the spread. This happened to me in July on a 585/650 spread. We closed at like 603 on Friday expiration, and B/E would be like 617.50. But I was exercised the 585's, like $18 in the money. Still holding those shares on margin today. Not bragging, I just thought we could all use a story with a happy ending, after that stinker Mark shared with us.

Quick and stupid question: if I ordered my iPhone 5 last week at the crack of dawn and there was no delayed shipment time - when is the earliest I should receive it? Is it tomorrow? (Although I haven't gotten a shipment email yet.)

It's a disaster for the affected customer - who rightly doesn't care how many Bothans died to bring them this great piece of technology, they just want it to be an improvement over the last one. Couldn't resist. Also, a moment of silence for the Bothans...

(Although I haven't gotten a shipment email yet.) I didn't get a tracking # until early this morning; and if your confirmation said Sept 21 delivery, then hopefully that's what you'll have. Until the apple store sends that shipping notice you can't track as they keep you in the "your order is being processed" stage. good luck. Is it Friday yet?

Just a comment on the assault on the French.....A few years ago, I had some time to kill between contracts and had a ticket to France that had to be used or lost, so i flew to Paris and spent a week in the Louve. I don't speak a word of French, wear jeans and a CAT hat and made no attempt to be anything other than what I am
While I was there, I made a simple discovery. I even intentionally tested it and verified it. If I walked up to someone and said "Do you speak English?" I got the stereotypical French response. If I said "May I speak English?", they smiled, said yes, and were wonderfully helpful. I don't mean just giving directions helpful, I mean "Please be our guest tomorrow and let us take you to Versailles" helpful.
This is an old and very sophisticated culture. Courtesy goes a long way. I imagine this would work other places as well.
