On the Friday the 4S launched the stock rose 3.3%. From 408,43 (Thu close) to 422 (Fri close) - 20.4 mil. volume. Does anybody, by chance, know what the highest call OI was that week? Did we close higher back then? That was also part of the week before October earnings, when the stock closed at 368.22 on the previous Friday (Oct. 7, 2011), but then closed at the Friday you mentioned (Oct. 14, 2011) at 422. I remember that 50+ point move that week well, because it pulled me from a big paper loss to a very good gain. But I don't think all the action on IPhone 4S launch day last year can be attributed entirely to the launch, since there was a huge earnings push that also contributed.

Yesterday I sunk all of my cash into options when we were between 695 and 697. Picked up Roth 10 Sep4 12 705 at 4.25 10 Sep4 12 710 at 3.55 Traditional IRA 20 Sep4 12 705 at 5.35 30 Apr 13 700 at 60.30 A big up day today sure would be nice! That was a nice buy. Looks like you're locked and loaded. Good luck. BTW, Jason Schwarz loaded up on Wednesday, thinking that there will be a big move today and Monday. I still think we'll be bound for a while by the wall of calls at 700 today, although I will be buying on dips (should/when they happen). We'll see.

In NYC they are handing the people on line outside the store water...and the ones at the front of the line are getting SBUX!

My thought is if news does not triumph over pain today, it will on Monday because the bears will be temporarily exhausted. A really good day will put me in seven figures.
Go AAPL!

At the Boulder store now. Previous years have been about 50 people maybe around 8am. It's not yet 7am and there's easily 100 people in front of me. And I got here about 30 mins ago!

An article about the Maps issue from a consultant in the mapping industry: blog.telemapics.com/?p=399"There is no really quick fix for Apple’s problems in this area, but this should not be news to anyone who is familiar with mapping and the large scale integration of data that has a spatial component. " Solutions seem to involve hiring a ton of experts or outright buying whatever mapping company hasn't been bought yet, but pickings seem to be slim.

Good Morning everyone. Can't wait for my iPhone 5 to be shipped. My order status says it will be delivered on Oct 5th. Telling from past experience with Apple - it usually arrives a couple of days earlier. Here is for hope!! Just checked - 212 members. Wow - great success for the AFB2 board!

The map issue takes center stage and is on the front page of the WSJ - as much as I thought the euphoria over the lines would be the major focus - the media won't let up on it. Anything less than perfection from AAPL and they are on it like flies on crap. We saw this with antenna-gate...they pulled SJ from his vacation to address it but coming from Jobs and his arrogant-like ways, we were beaten into a corner and told to grow-up and they would deal with it and to stop being babies. TC doesn't have the same approach but wish he could quell it more in some way. Sales will speak for themselves. And then TC will comment about maps if ever necessary. I've always thought Apple's Maps app sucked so it's no different for me now if the new one does in fact suck.

The lines in Germany are just crazy. I have never seen this before. An hour before the stores opened today there were approx. 1000 people waiting in front of the Frankfurt and the Munich store. If people think about this, how many more points of sale has Apple added? You can buy the phone at so many more different locations it would make you think there would not be lines anywhere, yet here they are, all over the world. The Android fans tried their hearts out to slow the stampede with Mapgate, it does not look like they have succeeded. I saw a Samsung commercial last night that tried to portray the iphone as something your parents would want. (Same style of commercial as last year, line envy) I will say this, why in the heck have I not seen an Apple commercial for the iphone? GLTA

I remember the 4 launch, Boulder store line seemed persistent for a couple of days. I had figured I'd wait a day or two then buy, was out running a lot of errands, made several passes, and the line stayed there, so obviously people kept showing up for a while. Keep us posted, and I'll probably be able to do a drive-by later this afternoon--but unfortunately after the market has closed.

Munster says lines for iPhone up 83% y/yHe says lines for the iPhone are up 83% on a year over year basis, and he believes Apple will sell 8 million iPhones this weekend. This despite the preorders for the phone.

In answer to Red,
Since there have historically been little or no lines at partner stores, I went to a nearby AT&T store to get my iPhone 5 this morning. There were about a dozen people in line when I showed up at 6:30. The line grew to about 20 by opening. I was out in 45 minutes. The line was constant (i.e.. new people coming, as others were leaving).
The phone is light and beautiful. I was worried the larger size might be too much. It's not and the added screen real estate is a nice bonus.
It just finished synching (i keep a lot on it) so I haven't used it yet. I'm in the process of rebooting my personal cell point (AT&T's wonderful coverage) because it was not recognized.

The box it arrives in is so tight they're going to need some of those micron scanning machines to match tops with bottoms. Sucker is light though.
