There is a big S&P re-balancing on the bell. Imbalances should begin to start showing. AAPL will be part of it..just don't know if it will be a better buy or a better sell.

Actually JD, selling covered calls requires the lowest level of approval, at least at Fidelity

Hoping for a great next week with all the new iP5 reviews from you guys.
Before I leave, a VERY BIG thanks to lovemyipad for the lovely new spot for us. And of course, two thumbs up to everybody here for your invaluable input.

So glad to see transition over to this new site - was lonely over at AFB And I missed the wisdom and back and forth from everyone that allowed me to sort out my own thoughts and decision making process Re: Apple and buy/sell strategies
One thing I learned was not to freak out and sell into the Friday close as the EO's Pin the stock Starting to happen agin right now - I will stay strong and long to see what happens Monday when we get the real scoop on i5 sales
Thanks to iPad for getting this set up for all of us !!

I don't know why this was supposedly some big mystery when Cook said in the keynote that iPhone 5 supports TD-SCMA. I don't remember that part. I thought there was still question on that. Yeah, just went back and looked at Engadget's live blog of the keynote, my bad. I really thought I saw that when I watched it live. Anyway, shouldn't be a huge surprise. As if Apple were going another year without a CM-compatible phone? That would be the surprise, IMO. Speaking of lack of surprise, EO's trying to tank us below 700.

Repeat after me: (You need to break free of your preconceived notions of the market if you still believe after today that) Max pain does not exist.

Amazing. Apple dips below 700 16 minutes before the close. Thanks for keeping us alert to this, Juris Doctor.

Good Luck to all that received their new toys today.
I pre-ordered my unlocked model on 16th after I confirmed with store rep they would NOT be selling unlocked units today. So my order status shows delivery on Oct 11-17 which is a bit longer than the 2-3 weeks it was showing at the time. Had they made clear their unlocking policy change, I would have pre-ordered on 14th at 3AM. Now I've got to wait another 3-4 weeks.

Max pain...defeated?!
700.05 Yahoo final quote
700.09 Google Finance final quote
Bought in Feb 13 option position near the close. (To give myself some time to be right.)
The moment of truth is next week. Show me the money - er, millions of iPhone 5s sold!

Amazingly too easy to predict
What bothers me is to hear all the FUD Analysts pronouncing "Well, this has been an incredible run to an unbelievable $700 last 8 weeks" and that "Well, it will have to end sometimes" Really ?, That's analysis ? - Things end sometime.
Meanwhile Google has run up faster and farther during same time frame to $735 and they never mention it's incredible parabolic spike for no real reason- up another $6 today alone. Amzn has also gone up higher % than Apple last 4 months and makes no money

Technically, yes, but the amount of calls that closed up before the close when $AAPL was @ $699.99, we'll never know. My OTM spreads tend to close around the 30 before close. Moral victory.

Still amazed at the price action vs goog's price action. Why are we trailing it by 35? Samsung defeat & soon to be the best selling phone in history. Meanwhile goog is still outperforming. Doesn't make sense but a lot of the time the market doesn't make sense.

Mav, did you do any butterflies? Oh, I wish I did. However, day trading a butterfly MAY have slapped me with a FINRA day-trader label - y'know, three closing transactions and all. I hated that last experience. So I just went with a Buy the (f'in) Dip order instead.

Gene Munster on CNBC right now explaining why AAPL had to "rip the bandaid off" from GOOG and use their own maps. Munster explaining is that what makes maps good is data and they have to build their own data....maybe they could have waited a little longer but it had to happen some time so why not now...and by the way...AAPL is still a buy right here. love Gene

I would pay to get a picture of Colin Gilles on line for an iPhone 5 ;D I would pay Gilles to stand in line. Most of the ATT stores in the Bay Area are sold out. I hope it's blowout sales numbers and not lack of supply. Is there a realistic scenario where Apple brick and mortar stores would sell out?

It would be kind of remarkable if Apple's brick and mortar stores _didn't_ sell out given this intense demand. Is that what you meant?
Though, it did seem that for the 4S launch and maybe even the 4 and definitely the new iPad, that Apple Stores did have stock not too many days after launch. In the case of iPad, there was actually pretty good supply during launch weekend from what I recall.

Here in NYC (Chelsea area), the Verizon store had no lines around 3pm EST and plenty of iphone 5s in stock.

Excuse me? It would be kind of remarkable if Apple's brick and mortar stores _didn't_ sell out given this intense demand. Is that what you meant? In the case of iPad, there was actually pretty good supply during launch weekend from what I recall. No, excuse me. When would you predict the sell-out to happen? Day one? Two? One week? They clearly hold the lion's share of supply and only provide minimal stock to other vendors. One non-Apple store said they received 30 total phones. I don't doubt Apple B&M stores will sell out at some point. Question is...when will that be? And is it supply or demand or a bit of both?
