Crap. I'm on hold now trying to call my local Apple store. Keep being told that "there are more than 8 calls ahead of (me)." Been on hold for 10 minutes already. Demand appears to be insanely humungous. Maybe I need to walk down a few blocks and knock on my new neighbor's door to see if he can help me out. www.businessinsider.com/photos-of-apples-jony-ives-new-home-2012-9?op=1

Icam, I can't say they did a good job last October or this past July. I also can't say they are doing a good job with the iMacs. That line is very long in the tooth. This is what you get when you have accountant types running things, squeezing the product and no concern for angry customers. Disclosure, I think when PO breathes, it is a waste of oxygen. Have not cared for his abilities since 2007. Since 2007 Apple has grown 605%. AAPL (despite the bank meltdown of 2008) has grown 460%. PO and TC work as a team. Therefore, whatever PO says, TC is in agreement. You can't criticize PO without criticizing the team. Apple has the best management team on the planet. Personally, I think PO is doing just fine.

WRT AFB 1, the damage is done, bridges were burned, and MacObserver should not be rewarded for such incompetence and outright hostility towards longtime members. And frankly, since they banned redirect links to this forum, let's not give them the gift of free publicity on AFB 2. Robert is a good guy, but the rest of them can go and do the anatomically impossible as far as I am concerned. Let's just stop talking about it and move on. It does seem they are making an effort to fix things at the macobserver.

It does seem they are making an effort to fix things at the macobserver. Just fyi dawn trader wrote in a topic title "turning a new page": Although over the past few years time and attention to my own work have precluded me from being as active in the AFB as in the past, recent events have created an opportunity for everyone who has enjoyed and participated in the “AFB experience” to engage in the renewal of this community. How best can the owners of TMO meet the needs of readers interested in Apple’s finances and the company’s financial performance? The slate is clean and the time to speak is now. They can leave us alone. I like this format much better than what TMO called an "upgrade", and I certainly like "management's" customer relations here much better. IMO there is no defensible reason to go back. This isn't a college frat, TMO is a business, and they shit on their customers, then blamed us for complaining. Uh, uh, you go back if you want, I'm staying here.

Drove past two stores on Long Island and there were no lines. My heart sank - so I called them to see if what model phones they had left (I wanted to see what models were selling out more quickly). Then both stores said, "No madam, no lines because we got sold out first thing this morning. Try us again on Monday - new shipment arriving." THAT put a huge smile on my face! ;D Same here. Most SF Bay Area Apple stores sold out of AT&T phones. Some sold out of all types. White black all carriers.

Just wanted to share. I've been using my new iPhone5 for the last 24 hours, and it's beautiful. I was already an AAPL fanboy, to a degree, but this phone just makes me giddy, and extremely excited about AAPL for the next 5 years. In a word, it's amazing. It inspires lust, and you're proud to show it off. I think I converted 2 or 3 people just yesterday. Regardless of software, just looking at the hardware. At that point, people just assume the software will be beautiful too I was watching Charlie Rose last night, and he had two guys on talking about Apple and the IPhone 5. The one thing he said which was interesting - and backs up what you are saying with your giddiness about the phone - was, "What can possibly capture the imagination of a corporate CEO and a 13-year old girl", and the answer is the IPhone. It appeals to folks on a number of levels.

We should change the name of this board so it doesn't include "AAPL Finance Board". I suspect in the very near future this board will be world renowned as the best AAPL board on Earth. No reason for the imbeciles at "AFB 1" to get any possible benefit from the accolades coming to "AFB 2" in the future.
I vote for "AAPL Investor Board" as the new name.

I don't see it happening. "There would be problems adding them to the Dow bedause they would dominate the 30-stock index that's weighted by price," Apple products may have an impact on the US economy, but so does Samsung and Toyota among a few other multi-nationals. Apple's effective tax rate reflects that a majority of its financial impact occurs off-shore. If Apple manufactured in the US (not going to happen for many reasons), then I would say yes.

Chestnut Street has iPhones. Sold out of some but they have most models on most carriers! There's a line outside apparently but I'm on my way over there shortly. Then it's off to ATT park where my previous ATT iPhone didn't work during the World Series but I digress. New iPhone here I come! Still can't decide...white or black?

It sure doesn't. (I mean, not like mine does either.) But we may be in for a big change in guidance methodology. The next two quarters will tell.

And a 10 for 1 split solves the weighting problem. Disposing of HP and replacing with AAPL would give the DOW the opportunity to power to new highs. I welcome all these moves.

A bit OT, but interesting, IMO: I have 2 months left on my AT&T contract - last week I checked my acct on their website and it said I am ineligible for an upgrade and my contract runs through 11/13 - but now AT&T suddenly tells me I am eligible for an upgrade, ha ha, I wonder why that is?
I hate AT&T, bad coverage in my area (still one bar in my bedroom after all these years), annoying fees, and just a dick-headed company in general. But I'm not sure if I want the CDMA talk/data limitations of S or VZ. I do occasionally use both data and talk at the same time.
So I'm going to unlock my iPhone 4 and try out T-Mobile pre-paid for a while (they are the only other GSM carrier) just to see how good their coverage and speed is, and likely save a few bucks off of AT&T's ridiculously expensive plan. Sooner or later T-Mobile should get iPhone 5, no? Anyone have any experience with them in SoCal?

A CFO does many things that are behind the scenes (e.g. managing analyst expectations via unending incoming calls from them) but their job is one of the most visible since quarterly calls highlight financials. PO appears to be one of the best CFO's on the planet and I suspect he could have virtually any CFO job he wants in the entire world should he ever choose to leave Apple.

Just saw the interview a few weeks ago with one of the members of the committee that decides what goes in and what comes out. His name escapes me but he was explaining why Kraft was being taken out and UNH was going in. When pressed on why more technology isn't in it he said that IBM and HP cover it and they don't need to add GOOG or AAPL. It was a silly response but to tell you the truth...I don't want AAPL in the DOW...it will be the death of it...and doubtful it will happen for the foreseeable future.

However, I read very recently that on wifi you can talk and use data at the same time on VZ and S as well. I didn't know that before and haven't confirmed it but I think Gruber is the one who wrote that so I think it's probably true. Doesn't solve the entire problem but may minimize this potential issue for a lot of people.

Well, you've been able to Wi-Fi + talk since the iPhone 1.

I also like the multi function and I am grandfathered on the unlimited plan. I still left for VZ, who I hate just as much. I was eligible because my contract is up. They still wanted to charge me an upgrade fee and tried to change me out of my unlimited plan. Crooks. I raised my voice in the store so everyone could hear me and told them I was going down to the VZ store to get my iphone. I did. Just have not got it.

It doesn't matter if its one share going up 30%, or a billion shares going up 30%. The weighting is based on share price. A DOW with AAPL included would become an AAPL Index.

LOL PO gives enough guidance info that one could have foreseen EPS of about $14.00 coming down the chute. You have to take into consideration guidance for revenue, GM%, OpEX, OI&E, and tax rate, coupled with ending inventory statements. Comparing guidance to actual for 12 quarters or more, can lead the analyzer to some pretty good estimates. I wish I had been paying more attention to all of the above for the last 6 quarters. Unfortunately, up until that time my methodology was working pretty good, even though it was incomplete.

Greg, dropping the price to $70 solves the weighting problem. That is indisputable. I know you are against a split and want to sway others, but the DOW would love to have companies that have growth potential in the future. You should look at the YTD performance of several companies in the DOW before making your 30% growth comment.
AMEX +22% YTD T +26% YTD BAC +64% YTD GE +26% YTD HD +41% YTD JPM +23% YTD WMT +24% YTD DIS +40% YTD
Insert AAPL and it is not an AAPL index. Fact is, if you remove AA & HPQ, the DOW might actually move up. The only way to get out of the debt mess we are in is to increase wealth.
Greg, I understand you are against it because of trading options. I trade options also, I am not interested in what is best for us, I want what is best for all investors. AAPL in the DOW puts AAPL in almost everyone's portfolio, that is a good thing.
