Didn't things change a hell of a lot last quarter? They changed a hell of a lot last Oct, who knows what is coming guidance wise.

Apple is an uncommon company. There's never been a company this powerful in the Dow. That alone isn't a reason to fear its being added to the index.
Would be a nice counterbalance to any NASDAQ rebalancing, but you'd have to have a stock split first given how the Dow is price-weighted.

Just thought I would add this, as of close on Friday the P/E of the DOW was 16.0. What separates it from AAPL is the yield. +5% for the DOW. And before anyone brings up growth stock, I will refer you back to AAPL's P/E of 16.5. It is not priced liked a growth stock. If you need a stock to compare to I present exhibit A: AMZN.

We should change the name of this board so it doesn't include "AAPL Finance Board". I suspect in the very near future this board will be world renowned as the best AAPL board on Earth. No reason for the imbeciles at "AFB 1" to get any possible benefit from the accolades coming to "AFB 2" in the future. I vote for "AAPL Investor Board" as the new name. I am fighting this one aaplfinanceboard2.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=faqs&thread=10&page=3#1327

A bit OT, but interesting, IMO: I have 2 months left on my AT&T contract - last week I checked my acct on their website and it said I am ineligible for an upgrade and my contract runs through 11/13 - but now AT&T suddenly tells me I am eligible for an upgrade, ha ha, I wonder why that is? I hate AT&T, bad coverage in my area (still one bar in my bedroom after all these years), annoying fees, and just a dick-headed company in general. But I'm not sure if I want the CDMA talk/data limitations of S or VZ. I do occasionally use both data and talk at the same time. So I'm going to unlock my iPhone 4 and try out T-Mobile pre-paid for a while (they are the only other GSM carrier) just to see how good their coverage and speed is, and likely save a few bucks off of AT&T's ridiculously expensive plan. Sooner or later T-Mobile should get iPhone 5, no? Anyone have any experience with them in SoCal? JD, I have been with T since July of 2007. I also like the multi function and I am grandfathered on the unlimited plan. I still left for VZ, who I hate just as much. I was eligible because my contract is up. They still wanted to charge me an upgrade fee and tried to change me out of my unlimited plan. Crooks. I raised my voice in the store so everyone could hear me and told them I was going down to the VZ store to get my iphone. I did. Just have not got it. Sounds like me with banks. "I'm taking my business elsewhere!" Problem is, I've run out of elsewheres. I'll give T-Mobile a shot and see what kinda speeds and coverage I get. I've had this iPhone nearly 2 years and it just occurred to me there's an external SIM slot in it. I assure you my dungeon is much better fortified.

50 people in line now at the chestnut street store in sf. They have a couple hundred phones left. Sold out of some models in some colors on some carriers. 16 GB black AT&T is available. White wasn't:( this is not a big store but incomes around here are insanely high so they'll sell a zillion phones today and every day going forward.

50+ in line on my way out. Moving fast though. I waited 45 minutes. This phone is blazing fast.

What color/carrier/capacity? There's also an iPhone 5 topic in iStuff if you have some first impressions for us.

I read the earlier posts forecasting the weekend's iPhone 5 sales with great interest. Thanks to everyone for arguing their position. I'd like to inject a note of caution, though. Apple reported 2 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours. Unless I'm misinterpreting messages I read on various boards, not everyone who pre-ordered will actually get an iPhone 5 before the end of the month/quarter. If it doesn't ship, it doesn't count towards sales this quarter.
That cautionary note given, I've also seen reports (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/22/late-iphone-5-pre-orders-being-delivered-early/) that in the past 12 hours rumors indicate that shipping times might be better than originally stated.
Still, it's how many Apple can ship and stock, rather than how many they can sell. Anything above 6 million would be astonishing. I don't think WS is expecting more.

I think confusing fiscal reporting requirement and product sales announcements has become a problem. We are not talking about accounting, those 2 million were sold, this is not about finances right now. When Apple announces sales on Monday that will be the last time we hear from Apple concerning numbers.

I just read an article (won't link to the hit whore site, a new one I have never heard of) and the comments rail against Apple as duping its customers and that all those people standing in line are in fact paid by Apple. The Droid Army is hyperventilating. They are in full desperation mode to plaster the internet with as many negative comments and articles as they can to try and slow the adaptation. I just do not think people get it. The exceptionally long lines are a thing of the past for most locations because of availability. The number of points of sale is huge. Apple stores, Sprint, T, VZ, BBY, Wal-Mart & Target. Before long they might even make it into convenient stores. ;D Just kidding. Pretty soon you'll be able to buy iPhones in redbox like fashion kiosks.. just an extension of your joke...

Anyone know what Apple's shipment/sales cutoff is for revenue recognition this quarter?
Will the units sold pre-order and the second tier rollout on Sept 28 count towards this quarter's numbers?

Glad to have found all my AFB pals on this new board... I've been in London this week... Funny, the Covent Garden Apple Store was one of my first destinations. I guess I really am an Apple freak. I haven't been trading much on vacation, but on Friday I noticed AAPL at 705ish with 35,000 Calls at 700 and I was able to buy some 700 Puts for a 2-hour double (small bet, but nice to get a win). I was skittish as previous two Fridays I lost money (AAPL PAIN EVENT MODE) betting the call wall would hold. Cheers, mind the gap.

Cobra notes that on Friday the stock saw a volume surge plus an intra-day reversal, so it might see a pullback of some kind next week. He assumes that any pullback will be bought. Cobra is a technician, so isn't factoring in any announcement of iPhone 5 numbers on Monday.

From a purely technical view, what Cobra sees is represented by a black-bodied candlestick on the daily chart (often but not always seen before temporary tops): stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=AAPL&p=D&yr=0&mn=9&dy=0&id=p98575202082

My wife and I are traveling from Vancouver and checked out the Covent Garden Apple store too. I'm entirely in shares and Jan 2014 700's so I don't need to worry about not being connected all the time. But after our Tower of London tour a few days ago, we went to the nearby Starbucks and I couldn't resist placing a few trades. I wrote some weekly calls at 700 and 705 (sorry JD), expecting that wall of calls at 700 to hold. I wasn't in a position to buy them back near Friday's close so I'm curious to find out if some of my shares were assigned for AAPL being 9 cents over 700. If blowout iPhone 5 sales numbers are announced before the open tomorrow I'll feel pretty foolish.

Many thanks to lovemyipad for our new home. I can't believe it's gotten up to speed so quickly. So great to have this forum back and better than ever. I got this e-mail yesterday from a well-meaning friend who knows my wife and I are heavily invested in Apple stock. =================================== >>> I suppose you saw this today, but still thought you would want to stay current on market analysts' thinking. Has Apple Peaked? By JOE NOCERA The nasty glitch in the iPhone 5 suggests that the law of big companies even applies to the most valuable one in America. =================================== I wrote a half page response, defining FUD and including links for her to understand the types of negativism, untrue statements and forecasts of doom that Apple investors have to deal with on a daily basis along with my opinion of most "market analysts". If I'd just waited a day, I could have sent her this link instead: aaplinvestors.net/stats/iphone/iphonedeathwatch/It's a well-done compilation of so much FUD regarding Apple's venture into iPhones, starting with the first release up to and including comments regarding the "failure" of iPhone 5 and the impending collapse of the Apple empire. I've seen many of these quotes before, but scrolling though them all on the same page gives one a real feel for the competency of "technology experts", "market analysts" and executives from Apple's competitors.
