The only thing the news is "abuzz" with this morning is the J.C. Penney / Ron Johnson story and of course, .... the Louisville NCAA win last night.
My response to Gregg on the discussion re: Ron Johnson - can't go home anymore: When I ran a division for a global corporate company, I hired three people back who had left for a competitor. In all three cases what I learned (unfortunately after I hired them back because I thought the same as you did) was that their strength was about the brand of the company we were in and not their ability in general. So sure Ron Johnson may do well at AAPL but don't confuse his ability and vision with the fact that he is offering AAPL product.
Frankly - I'm indifferent at this point - whatever is best for AAPL is just fine for me. I'll let their management group do whatever they need to do - that's why they pay those guys the big bucks, right - to make decisions like this and to get it right?!

My presumption on Ron Johnson is that he left because he realized that he was not the heir apparent for the Apple CEO seat, and he wanted his CEO shot. I would think taking him back into the fold would lead to friction with Tim Cook.

If I had a vote I would say don't hire Johnson back. And I think JCP is making a mistake hiring their old CEO back. Keep moving forward, not backward!

Oops, sorry, I got my timeline wrong. He left three months after the beginning of the interim CEO-ship of Tim Cook, one month after confirmation.
Still think friction would result.

Chart by FitzConcur with his three lines depicting the three if/then scenarios currently on the table: bull (blue), bullish bear (orange), and bear (pink).

Seems like everything is going to be released in the fall again. Not happy about this. Digitimes has a VERY mixed records with these rumors. In other news, PED is running a story on how our honest, above-the-board stock market is a such wonderful pricing mechanism for valuing stocks. NOT! The short sellers have given us a new term (at least to me). Apple has been SWARMED by short interest, with a suggested antidote on what to do. tech.fortune.cnn.com/category/apple-2-0/

Perhaps, but I'm of the opinion that if people don't like a stock, they stay out of it. Einhorn made his money selling short Lehman (and others) and his reputation will be forever tarnished because of it. Is it just coincidental then that a 250% increase in short interest correlates with a stock worth $300 per share less? I'm not convinced.

At least Brian White is a believer, and he's back with more today, pouring accelerant on the rumor that Apple will release a new iPhone in two sizes. I happen to like this rumor. If Apple does release a larger phone, it makes sense for them to release the two at the same time. But I've not seen any support in the way of parts leaks to support it. appleinsider.com/articles/13/04/09/rumor-apples-next-gen-iphone-will-launch-with-at-least-two-screen-sizes

GOOG up 8 and we are down 2. Nothing new. Volume very low. I am still of the opinion we will end green.
No new products because Apple releases them when they are ready. I would wait until after July.
I don't think White has good sources. I don't see a bigger screen iPhone this year. No need for one.

I don't understand why Eihorn shorting Lehman or Allied or Green Mountain tarnishes him? Conversely, AAPL to a top holding in 2010 and not selling it around 700 and riding most of it back to 425 might.

Not sure why Einhorn should have a tarnished reputation for shorting Lehman? They ended up going bankrupt because of extreme leverage and bad investments using that leverage.

He poured gas on a fire in the case of Lehman. Einhorn is tagged with the label of short-seller and he hates it. That rep will follow him for the rest of his life.

From MICROSOFT:GOOGLE SHARES YOUR PERSONAL INFO WITH APP MAKERS When you buy an Android app from the Google app store, they give the app maker your full name, email address and the neighborhood where you live. This occurs without clear warning every single time you buy an app.

Sometimes Apple introduces products before they are ready; like the new iMac last year right before Christmas. That was a big mistake.

This the same Brian White of the iRing rumor. He sure likes digital ink doesn't he? I'm not saying he's the gold standard for reporting, but Gene Munster has gone into hibernation and Apple needs at least one uber Bull making noises in the wild.

And I'm Bull+ Are there any "quiet period" times for Apple where they are prohibited from releasing information about the company? If so, are we in one of those periods now?

They are popular and will make up sales as we enter the 3rd quarter. I expect Big Mac numbers to be announced in two weeks.

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but the New Yorker magazine has an interesting piece on my favorite scumbag Henry Bloget. Just like that famous interview where Cramer is explaining how to manipulate the stock price, this article gives a pretty clear picture into what passes for morality at Business Insider. I cannot link to it, but it is worth checking out if you have access to it

Seems like everything is going to be released in the fall again. Not happy about this. It seems Apple ties the upgrade to iOS devices to a few months after the iOS upgrade. Is ok, just don't upgrade Macs at the same time, release Macs in Feb/Mar.
