Fairly sure my pre-order isn't included in the 5M. Of course non-shipped pre-orders aren't counted. Apple can't make these things fast enough. Everyone stop worrying like ninnies, Jesus H. The real number is likely above 7 or 8 when all is said and done. The only question is how many they can get them out this quarter or not. There's a lot of noise today. Tune it out. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.” - Tim Cook and just know that any rumors of Apple's demise are greatly over exaggerated. I like supply constraints much better than lack of demand!

Maybe I'm crazy but I'm thinking that TC was going to launch this thing a little later...and so not enough were available. Am I crazy? I had this exact thought this morning. Could be a result of the July miss?

Its only Monday and we are pinned to 690 for Friday closing. All of this today is well within the realm of normal possibility. The news, the sell-on-the-news, FUD and general trading variations.

Yes I agree. How hard would it be to say, "oh, and we only count DELIVERED iPhones that were ordered online, hint hint." I e-mailed PED and Jay Yarrow on this. PED said he'd add Brian Marshall's blurb, but I think this accounting method deserves its own piece since nobody is getting it right. Government regulations at work, ladies and gents. Meanwhile, the government can ignore GAAP accounting rules as we head of a cliff... I'm also wondering if this is a way as TC put it... "to double down on secrecy"

Who cares about the 5 or 8 mil. sales? 5m is a lot by any account. The fact that they are SOLD OUT means something. And it is not a sprint, but a marathon.
Oct earnings an Jan earnings matter WAY more than how exactly they counted the phones sold in the first weekend.

This is looking like an iPhone 4 sales situation.
Continuing to monitor AAPL price action. Hedged the Feb 13s, just watching for now.

Run for the hills! We haven't seen these levels in .... uh, 2 weeks. OK, never mind.
We're still above daily middle BB, daily MACD shows a healthy correction in a bigger uptrend, iPhone 5s are selling as fast as they can be made, and outside the birds are singing.

The action in the stock is making it look like AAPL will be pulled lower and might take a couple of days to rebound. Just thinking out loud.

...huh.
Guess I've become a bit of an AAPL bear for now. Over 2/3 cash.
Well, I do have levers to pull, and VXAPL is too high to try anything directional, I think.

Considering it has already been to 695 at 10:00 a.m. this morning, I am not sure what this post is about. I for one just hope we can hold 683. We are oversold as hell, so hopefully will hold.

I'm using 656-704ish for my near-term Fib retracement levels.
686 may not be reclaimed today. After that there's 680, 674ish.
I should check out the 8/13/21-day averages too. EMA, SMA, does it matter all that much?

I added to a few positions at 684.10. Shares and vertical call spread. Will hold fire for low 670's, depending. It's hard not to buy hard this F... Dip.

how exactly is 5 million sold bad? On CBS news last night, they reported (as if it was fact), "Apple expected to have sold 8 million iPhones this weekend." This is simply a case of missed expectations. Add to that Mapgate, Scuffgate, and Wifigate, and the bears have plenty to play with.

Not saying we shoot up from here, to the contrary. I think it probably serves us better if we close with the technicals all lowered. Should give more room to breathe.

Well, Apple hanging in there...
I'm not in a super-active trader mood lately, so I'll just keep monitoring. If AAPL holds the 38.2% level, that's good news.
iPad, a little help with 8/13/21-day EMA vs. SMA whatever?

I may buy in a bit if AAPL shows convincing strength rest of day.
But honestly, I don't feel like being too quick in this environment, leaning towards caution. I'd prefer to see AAPL reclaim the 690 level.
Meantime, I better go look at some charts.
