On days like this, it’s fun to take the price and multiply by 28. And for the opposite of fun, look at your old records to see any sales of Apple shares. 😂 For example, on 10/10/2008, I sold 100 shares at $94.01 (I had bought those shares on 10/8/2008 at 90.27). Had I kept those shares, there would now be 2800 of them and they'd be worth over half a million at current prices. Now to be fair, back then, I sometimes traded the stock, bought, sold, sometimes over a few months, sometimes over a few days. Today, I buy shares and I pretty much keep them. Nowadays, it is very very rare that I sell any shares outright. My last sale of shares was in 2020, and my last buy was on 12/22/22 at 130.88. Instead, when I want to "play", I use options. I have just two small sales of shares, similar to that, over this entire timespan. Looking backwards, it’s easy to regret, but: can’t be changed, and I can just remind myself of the vast-vast majority of shares that I’ve held onto. It would have been easy to take all the conventional thinking at the time about taking money off the table. And then there were all the people who bailed at $500-$700 before the 7:1 split, because: Samsung and large phones. Conventional thinking could have gotten me out then, too. My accountant has said, why not just sell half of it at various times, including pre-2013 (“where’s the growth going to come from?”). Ha. So it goes 🙂

To everyone who held the faith during the decline from 180 to 150 and didn't waver during the long winter and spring of our discontent, Congratulations!!!

On days like this, it’s fun to take the price and multiply by 28. After Feb 28, 2005, it’s actually 56. I prefer 112.

I’d be very, very happy to see just one more 2:1 split take place and then be swallowed back up by the growth. Or a 3:1.
Just like the 7:1 down to 100 was swallowed; and then the 4:1 when it climbed back to 300-ish (I can’t remember exactly) has also been almost mostly swallowed.

Last split (4-1) was August 31, 2020. The close that day was 120.96 (but a wild range L: 110.89 - H: 137.98). So today's close of 193.97 is a gain of 60.36%, two months shy of three years, by my math-for-non-majors. AAPL dipped a bit at first, and of course we had this pandemic thing, and of course the Russia thing, and the government doing everything it could to destroy our economy the entire time. So maybe not a really valid test of splits. I do however believe in them for reasons previously stated (mostly, people look at the absolute value of a stock to determine if it is "overpriced." I would submit that, if AAPL had not split 112X since I owned it, it would not be trading at $22,060).

Should have bought more just a little while ago under $130 😵💫 Didn't it drop under $120? I bought after the crash in Apple in 2000 so I have no need to add shares and I haven't other than adding some when Jobs was being investigated and when the SDK for the iPhone came out. I just could not resist when it was $124 in January so I added some more shares

We bought 1500 shares in 2008 and have never sold a share. That’s worked out pretty well, especially with splits of 7 to 1 and 4 to 1, per the above, plus dividends.

Glad that you bought more at $124!
