So are we going up or down this week? TA mavens want a retrace. Mercel like Bulls want a Saturn V. I don't know what the Sponge wants these days.... What is it gonna be? Wanting and predicting are two different things. I can guarantee you that I won't be shorting AAPL here... Mercel, you never short AAPL anyway. Heck, I don't either, really. ;D For those of us who are more like "eternal optimist" types, I guess there's "high-level stops" or something similar.

This buyback won't be fully understood or appreciated until we look back from 2016 and can see the average cost per share in toto, and with an almost certain annual increase in the dividend, the true savings there...if the divvy in 2015 is 31% higher than this May's payout, add 62-65 cents each quarter to savings not being paid on retired shares.... It all adds up...then there is the realized income from expired put premiums sold...... It makes cash management ( with the emphasis on "management") a real contributor. Y'know, I wasn't thinking about "dividend savings", but assuming something more like 75M shares repurchased through fiscal 2015 (which I think is quite possible), assuming a blended average of 37.5M shares repurchased and a blended average dividend of $13/yr or so over 2.5 calendar years, the total "savings" of $1.2B isn't too shabby, though clearly not "that important" a side effect of the buyback program. IF Apple somehow decides to sell puts as part of a "conservative" income strategy (writing options, conservative? IMHO, that's a Level 4-ish options strategy for a reason), it COULD amplify the effect of its buyback authorization. Or...not. Still not comfortable with that idea because it's such a huge shift from Apple's cash management strategy, but I'll wait for confirmation from Apple first (and there IS the matter of Apple hiring Maestri).

What is the date to hold shares to get the divvy in May? Ex date is 5/9/13. If you own it (actual stock) at the close on May 8th I believe you get the dividend. Any transaction after the close is ex-dividend. That is the way I understand it.

I don't necessarily want a retrace yet... Up to the daily SMA-100, then retrace to daily SMA-50 would work perfectly fine for me if we're talking wants. ;D Wanting and predicting are two different things. I can guarantee you that I won't be shorting AAPL here... In WHAT universe would you EVER short AAPL, Mr. Bull + !?!?! For those of us who are more like "eternal optimist" types, I guess there's "high-level stops" or something similar. There's "no more covered calls, too risky." That counts.

Covered calls? I'm much too poor for those.
I can barely afford to cover...er...I think I'll just hold that thought.

I live for this kind of analysis..... 31Signal Update Our system’s recommendation today is to STAY LONG. The previous BUY recommendation was issued on 4/29/2013, 4 days ago, when the stock price was 420.9000. Since then AAPL has risen by +6.91%.Market Outlook You may relax since our STAY LONG position is secure. The market action does not cast a serious doubt on the wisdom of going long.

I don't know what to make of this: corporate ownership of AAPL has dropped from 64.10% to 63.93%. That's the lowest I've ever seen it. Are those the figures from the last quarter? I thought The big funds only report quarterly. I watch Finviz exclusively, and ownership is upgraded with no schedule. It could be that the institutions report quarterly, but not all institutions report during the same month.
