So Elgan in Cult of Mac damns iOS 7 with...er...strong praise. Not sure if that "makes sense" as a manner of speech but it's literally accurate.
Easy to click through to the article via MacDailyNews if you want. I have no inclination to provide the link, because even though it's decent overall, the author employs the tired old copycat canard. Yeah, like Android didn't crib iOS _one bit_ and webOS wasn't directly inspired by the ORIGINAL card metaphors, aka MobileSafari 1.0 and a side of Cover Look (which Apple acquired the tech for, but still).

Re: the Stratechery article, Ben has a good point.
If iOS 7 already "adapts" to wallpaper photos, it's possible that iOS 7 could even "color coordinate" with the CheapPhone rumored to have a choice of colors (as well as the current/future iPod touch).

The new 13" MacBook Air tested by PC Magazine had a battery life of more than 15 hours! "...double the battery life of the strongest current Windows 8 competition" www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2420468,00.asp

Not quite.
Apple is one of the first systems to have Haswell ULT chips. We'll see how the competing systems with Haswell fare, because Haswell is 4th gen, not 3rd.
Apple also gets something of an assist from its lower-res displays.
I'm particularly interested in whether Haswell + Mavericks leads to even better battery life. With App Nap certain real-world gains are almost guaranteed (that is, if you run web plugins in Safari, at least until other third party apps build in App Nap support).

$200 iPhone pffffft ha ha ha ha ha not without some subsidy of some kind
Now, the article's mostly pretty good, if a little inconsistent. No Siri/app crosstalk/"open" APIs...but major design change and the "need" to cross-platform for Android (which means more APIs would only make it worse). Also, there's supposedly a ton of new APIs in iOS 7 anyway.
Also also, I'm quite sure being iOS only is quite fine for a huge number of devs.
Siri for iOS 8, that sounds fair considering that Forstall only left the building 8 months ago. Another interesting question - will Apple incrementally improve iOS versions between releases? Theoretically nothing preventing Apple from throwing in a Siri API during iOS 7's life cycle, unless Apple is "religious" about new iOS/new iPhone (which it may well be).

But it will be interesting to see the price points on the PC Ultrabooks with Haswell and the higher-cost touch displays needed to run Win8. Those with high res screens will also bump the price. There's a good read comparing the MacBook Air with the Ultrabooks, a PC centric site. What's the Editors' Choice? Ta Da!!!! The MBA. blog.laptopmag.com/top-10-notebooks-nowiOS7: The new features are GREAT. iRadio is a sleeper hit. The home icons are growing on me but am sure they're going to see revisions. It's possible the bright (sign, neon) colors are a nod to what's selling strong in Asia. I would like an option added in settings that has a global reset on default color palettes. Everyone is going to love the changes, particularly Control Center and overall design choices. I can say no more...

Theoretically speaking ;D, I wonder if iRadio will actually let you listen to an artist or song or your choice within the first couple of tries?
Touchscreen + ultraportable = LOL, but I do wonder how Apple intends to address MBA displays going forward. The resolution should be bumped by the redesign presumably by next year. In the meantime the "aging" MBA (in terms of form factor, everything but the iSight camera is up to spec) is looking seriously appealing to this desktop user. 10+ hours of moderate workload, without an extended battery? That's damn impressive.

People should stick to what they know. Apple's current iPhone COGS is somewhere in the neighborhood of $275 - $300. To get an unsubsidized retail of $200, Apple must reduce COGS by more than half. If they could do that, then I want to know why they haven't already done it with current handsets. Apple is not in the business of picking up dimes at the expense of giving up dollars.

That's damn impressive. Maybe someone can test that theory later this afternoon The MBA is hands down the best portable on the market. Period. The design is a classic and like the 911, doesn't need a redesign IMO. If the MBA gets a retina screen, Apple probably doesn't need both (MBA and MBP). I have the 2012 MBA and the screen is MORE than fine. I realize pixel peepers are out there, but they're more full time tech geeks than customers who actually USE the computer. I also just hooked up the new Airport Extreme. I was running a previous gen. Time Capsule with 2 Airport Expresses to improve the range. Before, I was getting 10mps in the bedrooms and now I'm getting 40mps. Wow!

There's a subsidy hidden in there. Somewhere!
Prepaid phones, PAYG phones, same general concept. You don't buy one to NOT use it on the network you bought it from. At least I don't think that's how they're used. You also want the phone to have SOME amount of minutes 'n data ready to go. At least that's how a prepaid buyer with half a brain should think. I trust Apple to be able to figure out the prepaid market in their own way. Tim's been on the case for quite some time now.

Touchscreen + ultraportable = LOL No kidding; The idea was flawed from the start. For navigating the display, the touchpad on a MBA > PC touchscreen by a country mile.

I'd REALLY like to see an 802.11ac AirPort Express. I wouldn't even be that upset if was a 900Mbps (vs. "full-speed" 1.35Gbps) version! ;D

I don't have any other gear to use 802.11ac, unless I get the new MBA. ;D Last night, I was only getting 3-4mps download and 10mps upload so one issue was I had a 2008 Airport Extreme that was slowing everything down.

The "aww no rMBA" people are morons, btw. Or at least tech Luddites (which is fine, but face it, if you're not tech savvy, don't wish for the unreasonable if you don't want your Luddite flag flyin').
Did they not see, well, the 13" rMBP? And the specs? And the form factor? And the battery? And put two and two together - as in, "hmm, I guess Apple had to design the smaller rMBP this way to fit in the battery and internals sufficient to drive a friggin' 2500x1600 display?"
There are a couple of "artificial" differences - better top-end CPU speed, that HDMI port, that timeless "pro MacBook" look. But otherwise, I think rMBA dreamers will need to keep dreaming for another 5 years at least. _Better_ display, sure, 4MP display, nnnno.

Horace Dediu tweet:
"At current share prices/user base: Each Apple customer is valued at about $440; each Amazon customer is valued about $574"

Horace Dediu tweet: "At current share prices/user base: Each Apple customer is valued at about $440; each Amazon customer is valued about $574" Yeah, that's absurd. Just in the next six months I'll be worth more than 5x that.
