Man, I'd prefer Mansfield not leave, but if he did, all the best to him.

Y'know what's the most amusing/irritating?
Stuff like this goes down on a WEEKEND, and the press is intrigued by the lack of immediate response from Apple PR. In this case, on a Sunday. One of these days I gotta find out which parts of Apple's team stay active 24/7/365.

I’d just like to say that I love Amazon. I don’t own any Amazon stock or options but the company is great. They have a very clear vision. They make a bunch of money. The fact is that they are investing their earnings by building infrastructure to realize their vision. What’s wrong with that?
Drug companies spend tons of cash investing in R&D. Amazon is investing in infrastructure.
I am an Amazon Prime member. Several times I have ordered a product on Sunday afternoon and received my order Monday morning. In the future they will be able to deliver products the same day you order them. That’s fantastic service.
Last weekend I bought some headphones from Target. While in the Target parking lot I used the Amazon iPhone app to scan the barcode of the item. Target charged me $65. Amazon had the same item for $38. With a few taps I bought the headphones from Amazon with free shipping. The headphones arrived quickly and I returned my purchase from Target.
How long will it take for Amazon to deliver spectacular EPS? I have no idea. But the company has a great CEO, they are building cloud infrastructure, warehouses, hardware, etc. I’m sorry I did not invest in them a year or two ago.
As Scott Redler Tweeted on Friday, “If you don't understand and keep asking how can this happen with $amzn. Avoid it. Shorts getting crushed there.”

None of here play AMZN to the downside...much ;D, anyway. But hey, it's fine to question business models and market valuations! I mean, look at Apple! It's been relentlessly hounded since at least September, right?

As Scott Redler Tweeted on Friday, “If you don't understand and keep asking how can this happen with $amzn. Avoid it. Shorts getting crushed there.” Just wow. Amazon makes a ton of money? Do you realize it took 19 years for Amazon to make what it took Apple to make in less than ONE month. 19 years vs. 27 days! Further, Apple's sales growth far exceeds Amazon's from 2005 through today (save the June quarter). Amazon is practicing predatory pricing and you cheerlead it? To each his own, but I think showrooming isn't something I'm comfortable doing. Kiss your local Target goodbye soon. When Amazon then raises its prices , everyone loses. If the stock market isn't going to value stocks on the basis of a Company's fundamentals, I want no part of it. Further, Amazon is dangerous to consumers while WS gives it unlimited time to destroy its competition. It's leap of faith investing and to the degree it continues, Apple won't see fair valuation.

Best outcome, he goes incognito like Jony Ive is now. Hoping for more info on this by tomorrow, though. Seems Apple is better for having Mansfield around. And nagrani, I stand corrected - looks like Apple PR is always on call.

As for Andrea, she's been ex-CEO of Avon for a while.

Well Mercel, I do shop Amazon now and then. Ignore me if you must. ;D So do I, but I don't showroom Best Buy before I order something at Amazon. And that doesn't mean I want Amazon to fail, not at all. I just want WS to price stocks based on past performance and future prospects. Amazon's 19 year performance is PATHETIC on profits.

Well Mercel, I do shop Amazon now and then. Ignore me if you must. ;D Maybe Mercel will double ignore me. I love Amazon. Saves me a ton of money and time. Long live Amazon. Why some people on here take the growth of AMZN so personally is beyond me.

But it might be more like he's been denied access to the SVP washroom more than leaving the building, y'know. Mercel - showroom _Best Buy_? Why not provide a better example. Though I gotta say, BBY is looking better than it...should? Recurring theme, that...

No, we wouldn't have. Mac unit sales peaked during FQ1/2012 at 5,198,000 units. Since then, Mac units sales have been in decline: EDIT: Also, you point out that FQ1 was apples best Mac quarter ever, but it had the infamous extra 14th week. Without that extra week its likely that FQ42012 would have been Apples best Mac quarter ever. Whatever you say.

I really don't think my post was controversial. Why should I pay $65 at Target for the same item I can buy from Amazon for $38? Do you also think that it is unfair for Walmart to enter a new city, sell items for less, and put the local hardware store and grocery store out of business? It’s capitalism. It’s the free market. If Target can’t compete then they should go out of business. I’m pissed that Target tried to sell a commodity item to me for 70% more than what Amazon charges. A part of me thinks the long-term strategy shown by Amazon is fantastic. They don’t manage their business quarter to quarter. This is refreshing. I wonder where Apple’s stock price would be now if a few years ago they had articulated and pursued a market share strategy instead of a high gross margin strategy? Something to think about.

"I wonder where Apple’s stock price would be now if a few years ago they had articulated and pursued a market share strategy instead of a high gross margin strategy? Something to think about." You mean like the one they're working on now? Hi Mav. I have not seen Apple articulate a shift in strategy from high gross margins to market share. But we all know that Apple's ecosystem is very sticky. A few years ago iOS had a very clear advantage over Android. Maybe it would have been better in the long run for Apple to accept 20% GM for a few years to increase market share? I have a feeling that a much higher market share now would translate into a higher PE. I'm not trying to Monday morning quarterback the situation. Just thinking out loud.

I'm about even on some August 450 calls. I might roll them out because when Apple says we will see new products this fall, I fear they will come out the day before winter.

I really don't think my post was controversial. Why should I pay $65 at Target for the same item I can buy from Amazon for $38? You shouldn't. But when Target and other B&M's go out of business, then Amazon can sell it for $66. Except Walmart actually makes money. Sooner or later, Amazon runs out of other people's money to play with. Quarter to quarter? It's been almost 20 fucking years! Of course a business that makes no profit is loved by the consumer. But it isn't sustainable. If I sold dollar bills for 90 cents, customers would find me refreshing too. Investors, notsomuch. Are you fucking serious? Go ask Dell and HP and Gateway how those razor-thin margins worked out.

There's so much wrong with the Amazon comments it was easy to ignore them (but I'm glad J.D. didn't). But yeah, what you said: Go AAPL.
