Imore is well-sourced, as is All Thingd D. It's looking good for the 10th. Of course, that is such a logical date based on IOS progress and past history...let's go That's a yes from Jim. Otherwise, it would have been a "nope" to tamp down the internet traffic before expectations were too high. So, fueling the rockets Captain Kirk. ;D

September 21st, the likely launch date if the event is September 10... Is options expiration for September.
I wonder which call strikes will become popular, starting tomorrow?.
Talk about a possible perfect storm!

Not worried about OPEX in September given the event. Apple locks in Q4 results with this launch date by releasing x number of iPhones in the quarter.
Looking good next week....

If we presume Apple does not forecast "new" products in guidance and we get two new iPhones and one new big iPad with ten days of sales in the quarter, aren't we talking about 8-10 million units that were not in guidance? Or am I misunderstanding what a new product is....or am I smoking dope?

Nonetheless, I think Apple has baked in half of your 8-10M range. If iPads are announced before October earnings call, then Dec. guidance should reflect a much stronger # than we've gotten before.

8-10M should be very doable depending on iPhone's launch date. I fully expect supply chain FUD though even if 5S somehow lacks a scanner.

Getting a fingerprint scanner built to last on a smartphone would be wild enough. Gonna try and keep my expectations from getting too high on the new iPhone 5S. I got swept up in that stupid-in-retrospect haptic feedback iPad 3 display rumor last year.
A6 on 5C would also be a heck of a nice surprise (but not of that's the only cheaper iPhone on sale of course). We'll see.

I've seen parts that suggest a champagne color for iPhone 5. I haven't seen black on any 5c mockups, however, an omission that would be a mistake.

I'm buying it.

I think it's for real too.
iPhone 5S is still around 5 weeks out at least assuming Sep. 10 is the announcement date. The A6 chipset was never seen in photos until about two weeks before iPhone 5's announcement. Plenty of time left for supply chain leaks, much as I'd prefer to not see any in the first place.
Monday trading could be tough to figure out. High volume at the open should be a given. Here's hoping for controlled, relentless, bear-scaring upside.

I believe the rumor about the technology. I don't know when Apple will announce it, although my sense tells me the next iPhone is the most logical (reason explained below). Apple's fingerprint sensor entails two elements which depend on each other. The first is Authentec's reader technology, which is unlike anything else on the market, and vastly superior for a number of technical reasons (look at Motorola's attempt to incorporate a fingerprint reader about 2 years ago). That in itself would make a work around difficult if not impossible. Then there is the manufacturing process that makes Authentec's technology workable. Apple owns the patent on the manufacturing process, and Apple owns Authentec (which owns the patents on the new reader technology). As to why I believe it will be in the next iPhone: Apple has two distinct and very difficult to copy fingerprint reader technologies. I believe they are ready for deployment (even if retailers aren't). Waiting another year delays retail adoption of Apple's technology, and gives the competition (alerted by publication of Apple's patents) another year to catch up. Fingerprint authentication is going to be such a tent pole feature, that controlling the standard for accuracy and durability is going to be extremely important. Another year head start could prove terminally insurmountable by the likes of Microsoft, Google's Motorola, Samsung, Blackberry and Nokia.

...you mean "we have an idea what sponge would say"? Well, that we do. ;D I'll probably buy within the first 15 minutes of trading tomorrow unless AAPL crashes below or a level or has a significant gap up.

I have a problem with this coming from the WaPo. It's clearly disingenuous from concept to finish. Each of the five points are arguable; none of them are myths. I might agree with the author regarding some of the points, but to call them myths is intellectually dishonest.

Friday I bought a small quantity of August Week 4 $470/$475 BCSs at 83¢. Its the first trade since adopting a new more conservative strategy.

If WaPo had an editorial that said "we think Bezos could do good things for the paper" or something? Great. The presentation of those sentiments within some myth debunking context was odd.
