You can copy the Authentec device, maybe?, but integrating it into your own OS via a hardware/software combo is another matter. Samsung doesn't exactly have its own OS. I hadn't thought of that. Good point. Does anybody see Google copying Apple's fingerprint IP? Even if they tried they don't have the internal manufacturing arm to do it, and I don't see a fab house risking a suit with Apple.

I loved this ad in the cinema - and the new Mac Pro is probably the only product they could do such a bad ass production for. I would be happy to see the current iPhone camera & FaceTime experience ads in cinemas too - they are beautifully shot.

Kind of weird...different charger inputs....aren't testing modules a bit more....organized? But fun, no doubt... The leaker was in quality control...so how was the quality?.

The source may have been too busy noticing now the alleged 5C "looks like" a smartphone that itself was heavily inspired by iPhone 1.

Well I'll say one thing, stack ranking wouldn't seem to encourage collaboration, would it.

You know, I wonder if this isn't a guerilla marketing effort by Apple to excite/alert, not the North Americans, but the Chinese about a forthcoming low cost iPhone. What would that do to Samsung sales in the interim?

I won't shed a tear if Microsoft continues their self-destructive pattern of the last decade plus. I've read a multitude about Microsoft and its cultural problems (from former employees), and it seems to me that Microsoft, as a Company reflects the products it produced: complex, doesn't work well with others, unmanageable. Ballmer might have done a good job, as good as could be expected anyway, managing the Company, but his style removed him too much from day to day operations. Perhaps this was because he had no clue as to how innovation/product development happened, and he implemented several layers that he controlled, with the layers being responsible for those things he was ignorant of. Layers generate fiefdoms whose first order of business is survival. What surprises me most is that Gates and the Board stayed the course for so long. It should have been apparent 7 - 10 years ago that the Company was a rudderless ship, milking its dominance for every penny, while underfunded startups were eating its "innovation" lunch.

What would that do to Samsung sales in the interim? A few years ago a new product from Apple was interesting to a segment of the tech world. Beginning with the iPhone 4 and retina display the interest grew to a broader segment of the marketplace and the populace, as more became avidly interested in "what's next". With the iPad launch, it grew further. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 speculation ( and the iPad mini) pushed a ton of page views....money changed hands for leaks..and the money got larger. So frauds got into the game for the quick buck....( the teardrop iPhone)...,now, its big business for true leakers and fakes. The crazy season ...from 90 days before a likely new product launch..

I'm wondering if the current 'leaks' aren't sponsored by Apple to A/ freeze Samsung sales, B/ spark greater awareness of a lower cost iPhone in China. What better way to go from 0-60 in under 4 secs (my Ford GT could do it in 3.2 seconds, faster with better tires).

If we drop 20 points Monday, I am blaming this. No car talk until we clear 600

Tweets by Clayton Morris:
"Sources are telling me the new iPhone's A7 chip is running at about 31% faster than A6. I’m hearing it’s very fast."
and
"I’ve also heard there’s a separate chip devoted to motion tracking."

NOT FAST ENOUGH
SELL AAPL
Ahem. Morris isn't bad at Apple intel but I think I'll wait about three weeks for more clues and maybe Geekbench benchmarks.

If A7 isn't ~50-100% "faster" than A6, there must be more to the equation or the entire 5S package. A 9-10 hour iPhone would be one way "around" a modest performance boost.

Firstly it could be that the A7 chip is 64 bit - that would make a significant difference in how it does stuff. Also on your fingerprint scanner stuff over the last couple of pages, Samsung could indeed just rip it off. It's pretty clear that Samsung's modus operandi is to steal IP and then keep litigating until it doesn't matter.

I've heard about the 64-bit angle. That goes in the "more to the equation" bin. ;D. I'd also add that no ARM architecture licensee AFAIK has 64-bit ARM-based SoCs ready to go (and in Apple's case the chips are already in ramp-up!) It'd be seriously impressive for Apple to be that far ahead of the curve.
And as I was saying in the previous page, an outright copying of the fingerprint scanner could be done, assuming Samsung is that unscrupulous (they do have a track record there, though). But it's not that simple. If Apple's shipping one in the 5S it's presumably the product of over a year of hard work and hardware/software/SoC integration. I dare any company to just photocopy even a reasonable facsimile of that experience, with an OS that isn't really theirs to boot. Cough any Android OEM cough.
We'll see if S Fingerprint or S Password works all that well next year...

At this point I would favour a big battery life upgrade over the diminishing returns of ever more powerful chips, so if the A7 is a lot more efficient over the A6 and only a little more powerful, then that's fine by me. Of course raw CPU increases may understate the increase in GPU performance.

More GPU is always better but for everyday apps, it didn't make iPad 3 "faster" than iPhone 4S though it was necessary to drive the display.
I could be fine with my iPhone 5 for another year. We'll just see what Apple brings to the table.

The good vibe on iOS7 continues, with several tech pundits anxious both to see what developers do with it and to be able to write about it without the limitations of their NDA.
Tie this buzz in with chip capabilities, power management and , I FULLY EXPECT, a marketing campaign like nothing we have seen before from Apple.....
And off we go.....

My theoretical MACDh trade is now up 29.1% on the year. AAPL is down 9.2%.

That's my sense, and why I'm so excited about Apple's GUIDANCE for the December quarter. I think all the frustrations of the past 9 months will be addressed then.
