This quick transition from one social forum to another is a perfect example in how Apple can get millions of Facebook users to make the switch. The time will come. It's really stunning isn't it? This sounds crazy I'm sure but it's also the reason I tell others that Apples's PE is so low. Those here know the complexity of developing an operating system, iTunes and it's associated infrastructure together with a retail chain and it's infrastructure but the street thinks this could all be replaced by the "next big thing" in as long as it took Lovey to move everyone here. What's happened here is textbook on how difficult it is to build goodwill and how quickly it can evaporate.

I have been in the US for the last few days (I'm Canadian), and I must say, the Square reader is becoming pretty prolific. Besides paying a couple independent vendors by credit card via Square, today I used it in a coffee shop.
I saw a couple iPad point of sale systems in Hawaii earlier in the year, where the iPad is connected to a traditional card reader, but the Square functionality in this cafe was amazing:
The iPad was mounted on a vertical swivel. They took my card, swiped it, and then simply tilted the screen to me. The image flipped, I signed with my finger, and it asked me if I wanted the receipt emailed to my email address (which it has linked to my card number from a couple days ago). SO easy, and SO fast, for both me and them.
I would be really nervous if I were a Point of Sale hardware company right now.
Edit: I've also been using the Starbucks app to pay for Starbucks stuff lately. Between these two types of iOS payment systems, I don't think NFC is all that important (right now, anyway).

I will say that I had no idea our little community had this many active posters and followers. I mean, 50, 75, sure, but...

Or was it Wave 'n Pay. Tap Tap Tap to Pay? I'm sure Google NFC works better, but the point is, the standard needs to change.

Yeah, I really wish we could get the service in Canada. There isn't anything else quite like it.

Square's promising to expand outside the US for years. As a small business owner who takes credit cards twice a month I can't wait for it to get here.

I was in Lewiston, ID for Hot August Nights. Even a small bar and and grill was using an iPad for payment as well as their restaurant accounting. On the surface, I'd say the Surface doesn't have a chance.
I have a picture, but could not finger out how to post as the photo is not on the web, but on my iPad. Need more FM.

The reason square is currently valued at 3.25 BILLION dollars. An interesting piece on the transition they expect to occur over the coming 12-18 months can be found here.

Not so sure the article is all that great. The author devoted more space to the iPod, than she did on the iPad (no estimates there at all). Further, I'm modeling 53 MM iPhones in the December quarter, and get EPS of $17.xx. I see no way possible to get $25.xx. Her story about Apple's momentum is good, but it's just a rehash of all we have already determined. But that's just me. I guess I meant it was not slam from Forbes

I am in complete awe of all the activity and the move. I guess things do really happen for a reason. This is great. Still missing a few folks but hopefully they will find their way. I tried to reach out through PM to a few but don't know what has happened to my message and I don't trust that it even reached the recipient.
If anyone knows certain folks who may not be aware of the move, please reach out - here are a few that I can remember - some we haven't heard from in a bit however others were fairly active:

Just wanted to add my 0.0205 cents to the new AFB2. Like many, I've been a long-time lurker on AFB and my hats off to all you regulars. Your contribution is invaluable to many AAPL investors. I do trade stocks but not AAPL as it doesn't meet my criteria. However, I've been long AAPL since $35 and an Apple fan since the dawn of time (aka mid, late 70s). Thanks again to all and I'm liking AFB2.

Maybe close the previous thread? Or maybe just keep one thread per week? When it comes to change, less is more. e.g. see recent AFB1 changes.

Don't look so far out, iPad mini should be pretty cool in a month! Sent from my iPad I am in the camp that we won't see an iPad Mini To counter your negativity Mr. Sponge, I raise you an "If that is true, then IMHO there will be a short WTF sale and a great opportunity to enter prior to Jan earnings"

So .. this is where the cool kids hangout ? To quote David Byrne "Same as it ever was" Thanks for the new digs iPad ! $700 proving to be a tough nut to crack ... I would assume plenty of sell orders up there ... that's ok I'll wait. Edited: Looks like it just cracked while I was typing. Do I get a Karma point for that ?

As a long time lurker, wanted to add my thanks for the move here. Been following AFB for the past 2 years and really enjoyed the thoughts and insights. Like many of you, I've done very well over that time employing various option strategies. I've also learned my share of lessons. Looking forward to continued success for all.

Boy the other board was like standing in one of those white void areas of null space where way in the distance some guy was shaking his fist saying respect was a two way street.
Im saying it was empty, quiet ....... scary quiet.
