All the charts that were/are showing potential H&S... That pattern is invalidated with a higher high... So...let's see how this plays out today....

More on that higher high, please. What exactly does that mean? Higher high than what? And, is that intraday, or close? And, does volume matter?

This table is an eye opener. PE does move around quite a bit.

HOD 673
Three weeks to earnings report. European concerns minimizing. Apple share re-purchase starts today, I believe.

I could be wrong but I thought the buyback is just to offset employee stock options

HOD 673 Three weeks to earnings report. European concerns minimizing. Apple share re-purchase starts today, I believe. It's a tiny, microscopic, miniscule buyback that will have no material effect on AAPL. $10B over three years. So, $3.3B, or 0.5% of current market cap, per year. Based on how tiny it is, I don't expect Apple to increase it. They might extend it though so maybe we'll see another $10B for the next three years. I think we'll see consistent dividend growth though.

Trading is average. 3.7 M in the first 40 minutes. I got 4.8 MM in the first hour. Slowing down from the rate you posted above, but still very good. Even though this will further slow during the course of the day, I would think this is higher than normal.

LONG time lurker; brand new member. Have been very impressed with the level/quality of discourse on this (and the former board) - not to mention the number of real characters that post here (a very good thing). Thank you all for providing a place where intelligent conversation around AAPL can take place.

Real time traffic updates from Apple maps. With all the trash talk no one brings this up. It's so cool. Goog maps never had this. Attachments:

I love everything about this forum! The back and forth, the smart questions and even smarter answers. The forum personifies Glenn Reynolds thesis in an Army of Davids that groups of diverse people can, through sharing of expertise and information and without formal organizations, produce amazing results.
Purchased $100 shares of Apple in 1990 purely out of emotion and kept it through the lean years for the same reason. That investment is now 800 shares.
Because of this forum, I found the courage to buy a lot more Apple in 2010, 2011 and early 2012. Now I am diligently studying covered put spreads to hedge, at the lowest cost, our fantastic investment!

I'm not a big fan of keeping excess money (dry powder) in the bank waiting for the opportune time to open up some option positions. Do any of you purchase common shares in the meantime only to sell the shares when you feel its a lucrative time to load up with options?

Does anyone know when we will get confirmation of the earnings release date? Before or after monthly Opex?

Does anyone know when we will get confirmation of the earnings release date? Before or after monthly Opex? It's been almost always 'after' OE

Yes; but sometimes not. My question was actually what date will we find out the official date of the release. If post Opex then VXAPL for October should shrink (with a corresponding improvement in value of Bull Put spreads.

Do any of you purchase common shares in the meantime only to sell the shares when you feel its a lucrative time to load up with options? That's exactly what I do with my investment capital. Whenever I take options profits, I roll them into shares until I decide to increase leverage again with options. The way this proceeds ideally is to buy AAPL shares at the top, sell for a loss on a decent pullback, buy back in the options market for leveraged gains, take profits at the top and roll into shares again, rinse, and repeat.

Does anyone know when we will get confirmation of the earnings release date? Before or after monthly Opex? usually after -- also, other blogs out there are saying that today or tomorrow we should be getting the date on earnings announcement -- but nothing official

From Tim Cook to his employees...I think he did the same last year, no?
"To recognize the efforts that made this amazing year possible, I’m happy to announce that we’re extending the Thanksgiving holiday once again this year. We will shut down with pay on November 19, 20 and 21 so our teams can spend the whole week with their loved ones."
Maybe he should keep Forstall there that week and water-board him...relax ... I'm kidding!

Does anyone know when we will get confirmation of the earnings release date? Before or after monthly Opex? They usually announce the earnings date right after the quarter ends, so I would imagine some time this afternoon. By the way, my guess for earnings date is Wednesday Oct. 24th since earnings this year have all been announced on the 24th day of the month (Jan 24, April 24 and July 24).

I like this comment there: "So now we are speculating not just about the date of product unveiling but about the date of announcing the date of product unveiling? Samsung and Google could only wish for such enthusiasm about their marketing."
