AAPL closes at 659-ish, depending on who you ask. Aggravating of course, but better than I expected, considering.
AAPL still acting anemically, but it's hardly the worst near-term chart out there. Check out GMCR three weeks ago.

Yes I am fully aware of the difference - been doing this for over 30 years. Only making an observation based on the way the two stock prices were moving. If you think the typical retail investor isn't looking at these things (and making investing decisions accordingly) you're kidding yourself. Then please say what you mean. If your desire is to point out the different directional movement, then please say that. Your first post only pointed out the price difference. Thanks.

Now we have to just wait for Jim Dalrymple's "yep" for confirmation. Dalrymple doesn't comment on "any old" rumor. Think AllThingsD, iMore, that type of rumor source.

This is coming from the same source that made a big deal about an article that Forstall should be fired over maps. I don't put much stock in his sources or credability. WS does not believe it either by looking at the reaction in stock price. I do agree with AppleII that selling shares at a loss during these times and buying long options is a good strategy. I plan on doing so once we get below 650. "Apple blogger Jim Dalrymple, known to be a company insider, had earlier hinted that Daring FireballÂ’s John Gruber may be right in suggesting that October would be the launch month for the new tablet. Earlier, Jeffries analyst Peter Misek had also suggested a similar time frame for the launch event." A guy can hope... What is the announcement of the iPad mini worth for AAPL? $10-$20? After the announcement it will sell off anyway. Don't get me wrong, I really think the iPad mini will be very popular, but for the stock, I just don't see it as a big mover.

Scott's T3 Daily Recap today is a must-see for anyone holding short-term or intermediate-term options. Streaming live right now, so check back around 5 ET to watch from the beginning: Scott Reder's Daily RecapHe first covers AAPL briefly toward the beginning, then more in-depth about 10 minutes into it.

Pretty rough on TC - but I'm starting to think that the villagers are starting to get restless out there - soon they will come with their torches and pitch forks and take Frankenstein up to the hill to burn him at the stake: tinyurl.com/8oauofm

I was curious if anyone here has seen any analysis on how much apple has been making off its investments/cash holdings. I read an article today stating apple is in the neighbourhood of 117bil in cash world wide. Does anyone have any information on the performance of the hedge fund Braeburn Capital and what there returns have been on the cash. Of course the hedge fund continues to grow, but what percentage of the growth is from the investments rather than product sales.

I don't know what the announcement is worth and I'm not really concerned about it. I think the product is worth at least 25 million net units (after cannibalization of regular iPad) next year which gets us roughly $2.00 in incremental EPS. Adds roughly $30 to stock price. Of course, there is a real chance that iPad Mini could outsell regular iPad within a couple years so the opportunity might be much bigger. And it helps Apple completely lock up the touch computing market. So, I'm assigning a floor of $30 in share price value and leaving the upside at "unlimited".

I'm looking at the very short term because some people are putting up their hopes on a big boost from the announcement.

Imho,
It seems today was a perverse "sell the news."
1. No iPhone sales news for the international launch. 2. iPad Lite rumor. There is only the slimmest rumor of an announcement. Since there was no announcement, sell. 3. Earnings season. It's near. Sell.

If I had known it was Forbes, I would never have clicked the link, given that they are now in full-on Apple attack mode.

Sure - as a rule - I and hopefully others - should include the name of the reference. Normally you would have seen it had I not collapsed the url - but JD asked that I collapse urls and by accommodating that request, you can't see it in the reference link....but no worries.

As expected, after OpEx. Maybe a touch of IV deflation (moreso for Oct 12s), but I don't see any effect on AAPL.
