Bailed on my Jan Spread position near the high of the day. Still took a 10% hit but feel lucky to out of that position. The next nearest position is a modest deep April position.
The sentiment is downright terrible on Apple/aapl right now and I'm beginning to think this will ultimately turn into a WTF sale (100 day SMA test) in a few weeks or so. Hope I'm wrong for the sake of the near term traders here.
good luck to us all JohnG

More on that higher high, please. What exactly does that mean? Higher high than what? And, is that intraday, or close? And, does volume matter? Go here: H & S Primer

Anyone have a good fundamental reason why AAPL sentiment/share price is down? I can't figure out what it would be. Maybe people are concerned about FQ4 earnings and/or iphone 5 underperforming?

Some boards are really down and out....one day trader just tweeted: "I've lost faith in this one. Will probably make it down to $630. Everyone that I know is taking profits and moving to other stocks" And all I can think of is that when we do make a move to the upside - given comments like these - it may very well be epic. By the way, I haven't seen Gregg Thurman on the board...did he not join?

(...)By the way, I haven't seen Gregg Thurman on the board...did he not join? Yes, Gregg's here! I think he would be okay with me uncloaking him as one of our "anonymous" donors! Phoebes, on the other... All I have to say is: I wish more people would buy cheap insurance in the form of index puts, then these downwaves wouldn't have quite the same edge.

Except that being a nonactive SPY trader to the downside would've cost you today.
It's a choppy market. Like Redler said - longs and shorts alike are feeling pain.

I mean (relative) disaster insurance. Like DEC'12 SPY 130/135 bear put spreads. Just park them. Or DEC'12 AAPL 625/575 bear put spreads. Then you don't worry about the sky falling.

They usually announce the earnings date right after the quarter ends, so I would imagine some time this afternoon. By the way, my guess for earnings date is Wednesday Oct. 24th since earnings this year have all been announced on the 24th day of the month (Jan 24, April 24 and July 24). renee, are you the same renee from AT99's place?

Nate, buy a put and/or close your eyes. I think I could argue that he should buy a call rather than a put when he's in desperation mode like this. And I am buying calls tomorrow or Wednesday based in part on the negativity that seems to be getting out of hand. Who knew, but if this works out I'll be thanking Nate.

AT, different investment objectives. Panicky types should buy cheap puts and stop worrying. If you aren't panicky, then by all means, add to longs...the quarterly WTF sale has begun...

$100 difference in AAPL and Goog stock price. Almost to the penny Gone up nearly $200 in 3 months and yet no mention of "parabolic" etc... GOOG's parabolic, and I'm getting ready to short it!!!

Right, AAPL trades solely by fundamentals. Look up "trade" and "YoY performance" and compare the definitions. Yeah, but that can work in our favor too...reference EARNINGS MISS, JUL'12.

I am right behind you, literally of course. ;D Been watching it for a little over a week. Looks exactly like AAPL in April. I bet it even gets a hook soon. Target month is Nov.

Well, it would seem no matter what the print, dumb bunnies keep buying weekly $AAPL calls. Strike | Call | Put | 650 | 1,823 | 6,812 | 655 | 1,823 | 5,635 | 660 | 3,514 | 6,428 | 665 | 4,915 | 4,854 | 670 | 9,593 | 5,129 | 675 | 9,420 | 4,768 | 680 | 10,695 | 3,180 | 685 | 10,203 | 1,600 |
The only decent news is 660 puts are nearly double calls, so hopefully a bit of a floor. But the lemmings will probably ruin that.
